I am a Windows user and prefer MX-linux. But I can say I prefer the system that nvidia works good with and configure my own desktop environment is not an issue. I Used ubuntu LTS since 18 doing upgrades to 20 and to 22 but to 24 didn't go well, thas why I took the step to MX-linux that feels like a system prepared for kompetent computer users that want "comfort". 🙂 Regarding Zorin, i think Zorin having the best Wayland support at this date. I am waiting for xfce to get wayland support.
If a program has security issues, it would be caught by independent security companies. If only the US government accuses it of something without details, then it is only an accusation.
I started with Kaspersky long ago. Norton and McAfee were bloated dead whales weighing down the OS. But Kaspersky was clean and lean. When you only chose the AV and avoided the Anti-Virus suite, it was a no-brainer for me (My office has a lot of Russian and Ukrainian immigrants--and they went to a lot of websites that Kaspersky blocked) But when I heard the Feds thumbs-down Kaspersky... and certain Russian Oligarches started learning how to fly ... I had to say: "Poka, Poka..." I couldn't trust Kaspersky anymore. Exactly because the Russian Security suspicions. Now I'm using Malwarebytes--but DAMN! I miss the old Kaspersky!
Why are you using an AI voice
Cuz he's LockBit!
Any operating system by Microsoft. Don't use them.
Duckduckgo
DuckDuckGo is my go to search engine. Never used the dedicated browser though.
@@fuzotech It is available as a Microsoft Store app, which is interesting. I installed it.
Hmm, I never heard an AI voice take a breath.
If not Adobe Reader or "Free PDF converters" what do we do to open and view pdf files? Is there a "Safe" alternative?
I explore some alternatives here ruclips.net/video/dA9m_HAdwSY/видео.html
I will only install these programs on other peoples computers 😗😗😗
😳😳😳
I believed Ubuntu should be lowered because complexity added by snaps/old deb packages. opensuse also requires some manual configuration and you can sometimes get stuff broken through updates if using tumbleweed and should be lowered as well (you are essentially doing release upgrade anytime you upgrade). not sure if leap is better, but I am not a fan of old packages for home usage. But their tooling is really nice for beginners. Also, Fedora isn't that hard to use. ye, I had to use cli to do release upgrade because of incompatibilities, codecs are indeed a problem and annoying to set up and I had to roll back to a mixture of proprietary/opensource versions. About security features, indeed, they can be complicated, although if u are an end user it takes like 5m to disable selinux and firewall. I wish the installer offered options for all that to make it more approachable too
yes the bad russia will steal with kaspersky secretes of the good usa. bullshits. read about origin ofother av too
I have no trust in anything Google puts out. They seem to be nosy about the things I do. Yes, I still have my gmail because of keeping contact with friends, but i avoid their other apps
The announcer needs to work on his pronunciation. Very slurred speech
First don't install Windows 11.
In my job I used CentOS, Red Hat and SUSE, but when my laptop started acting up after the last Windows update it was Mint that went on. Easy as falling off a log. But your choice of distro should be guided by your needs.
I agree with this “your choice of distros should be guided by your needs”
McAffe?
Yes McAffee
from person experience using these distros. POP_OS with the gnome based DE would be A|B as the desktop tends to break when gnome gets updated, as it's a bunch of plugins. POP_OS when they go live with cosmic DE will be S Mint is S Ubuntu could be S but i'll say A, as it hevy relises on snaps these days. And snaps are still a very WIP packaging format. Fedora is C, would argue mostly because much of the user docs are based on Ubuntu, and that can cause issues when trying to find how-tos Manjaro is D. C if you don't uses the AUR, as it tends to brake due to the AUR expecting you to uses the Arch repos. instead of Manjaros held back repos. dailyed this for two years. and should have reinstalled after 18 months.
I use Makulu, it has an AI assistant that seems to know everything about Linux, if I don't know something, I just ask it, as a Windows user I find this quite helpful.
What about Advanced system care!? The main pain is all the pop ups.
How can we uninstall USA, the global virus!
But for gamer who switch from windows to linux the Pop_os kinda inferior in term gaming performance..
Suse over Fedora is a bad joke
I switched from Windows to Linux two weeks ago, starting with Linux Mint, but I quickly moved to CachyOS because it offers significantly better gaming performance.
I installed Zorin. I couldn't change the display size. I installed it with Nivedia drivers but couldn't find the graphics card. Rubbish. I'm back to Fedora, which finds everything and is one of the easiest distros to install.
I have all my programs I don't fully trust on a separate vlan on a VM , and don't log in to any sites on this computer. So the best they are going to get in the local passwords ,but won't know what my name , email address , telephone no , or any password like Gmail etc.
Add TronScript to your list of programs not to install on your PC. It changes permissions and doesn't fix anything. Also, it has Kaspersky included into scripts.
Mint user here and very happy with my choice (sheet music notation Musescore works just fine.) Ubuntu gave me some headaches, but I respect its so popular. Pop wouldnt really install. I have yet to try Zorin, which I will soon.
@@CaptButtonMash interesting I love and have to use Musescore a lot
I want to like Linux/Gnu distros. I really do. Keep dipping my toes in whenever I have a secondary computer (can't risk main one). But what do Linux enthusiasts mean when they say "powerful" OS? I just want my OS to meekly connect my beloved apps to my beloved hardware and get out of the way? I don't want 9 ways to Sunday window managers. But it's nice not to have to look at ugly all day also. Usually what I find when use Linux is: 1) Weird fonts & windows (obviously open source fonts and interface design are rarely as polished as Apple or MS products -- 2) Showstopping hardware or software incompatibilities that one never would accept in a proprietary OS. Just tried Pop!_OS which everyone enthused about, but ran into some rather basic walls that caused me to wipe it within an hour. I am not saying it was bad, I wanted to like it, I really did. But some basic interface stuff I depend on was just...missing! I used to run Lubuntu on an underpowered laptop (18.04 IIRC). It was light, zippy, and altho not as polished as Ubuntu in appearance, it prioritized what I needed -- software to connect easily with my hardware and my apps. But dual screen functionality was flaky (they would work, until you unplugged one, then they wouldn't), got the WiFi hotspot to work once, then would never do it again (possibly a driver issue, granted), and the file manager had no built in search (that's a separate download). Nuisances like that can be showstoppers if you are relying on a WiFi access point but want to share it using a hotspot for example -- something that is simple on both Windows and Android phones even. Why can't Linux distros do this out of the box without compiling a special driver, standing on your head, and so on? Are hardware component manufacturers that hesitant to embrace Linux? Oh, and can we please just find a way to coexist with Windows boot & other partitions? After we have solved these fundamentals, we can focus on window animation and transparency, and other eye candy.
What would you recommend instead of Adobe or free PDF software? Some sort of PDF reader and creator is necessary.
I would suggest Foxit Reader (Free) and Foxit PDF Editor. I haven't tried Foxit PDF Editor but I've heard it's supposed to be good.
I think ZorinOS should go in S tier. I prefer it to Linux Mint.
I wouldn’t argue much against this. I think Zorin OS is solid
AI Slop and Manjaro should never be a serious recommendation
Windscribe is a rogue software. I asked it to stop loading at startup but ii didn't obey. I uninstalled it and it still kept running! I removed all references to it from windows registry and it kept loading!
warning disabling Connector User Experience and Telemetry will affect updates from Microsoft. Those updates are extremely important, therefore I do not recommend do this step on your video.
Yes Kaspersky (the Russians) may spy on me. But Microsoft/Google (the Americans) are without doubt are spying on everyone.
This is 100% correct.
I've been on the Internet since 1995 and used several of these programs. I can tell you from personal experience how shitty they've become lately, mostly due to want of revenue from advertising and crypto mining. Learning about Acrobat Reader was news to me, as I've never had (known) problems with it. I have uninstalled Reader and now use SummatraPDF.
Great video. Although I would have like to see others like kubuntu. I will never use mint though they sold out
@@scottss213 probably will review more distros in the future
On number 1 I would recommend Linux Mint, Ubuntu being a closed 2nd. openSUSE LEAP would be my 3rd pick. Personally I use openSUSE LEAP as my only operating system. I never ran Pop OS so I can not say to much about it.
Thanks for this! I found that I can open and manage .pdf's in Libre Office Draw, so, you bet I uninstalled Acrobat!
@@rogerbowen5753 this is nifty
Norton infects everything, ironically, like a virus 🤔
what should be a better option for lastPass?😐
Bitwarden and or YouiKeys
Bitwarden or 1Password. Both are highly recommended. If you are tech-savvy, you can host your own Bitwarden password vault on your own hardware.
ALERT ! all this is so true. You should also know that Avast will see some of your software as Malware & will remove the install files for that program. It's happened to me & I was warned by other Friends about this, Yes, Avast will remove the install files on any program it thinks is Malware.
What about 360 Total Security Anti Virus ? I started using their Premium version since last year after having tried their Free version for years. It help me to find all the necessary drivers my computer needed. So far so good.
Doesn't appear malicious, just doesn't work well at a LOT of what it advertises, according to several reviews. Low detection rates, ransomware protection doesn't, etc.
Spot on advice, thanks.
@@charlesxix you are welcome

Another alternative to any media player is K-Lite Codec pack, which basically ads every codec to playback literally any format in any player.
