Vila Velha ES, is a beautiful city, has beautiful beaches, has the Convento da Penha where there is the most beautiful view of Espírito Santo, it is a city with good shopping malls, good for living close to the beach.... it is not such a city organized like Vitória, but it is good to live in.

Vitória is not a dangerous city, walk from Camburi beach to the center of Vitória, calmly... for Brazilian standards, Vitória is a very good city to live in (it doesn't have the glamor of Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo ), but it is a safe city, you can walk everywhere, there are good shopping malls, people are well educated... I was born and live in Vitória, in terms of quality of life, it is one of the best cities in Brazil.

@Marilu94Ferro *cities *worst * that *bias As someone that was born in the state of RJ and considering all the family members that lived in the city of Rio and Niteroi and ESCAPED many years ago, many going to the US, Canada or Europe, I can relate to the fact that it isn't just Rio. Certainly, the whole country got a lot more violent, with drug use and organized crime in the last 20 years (not to mention corruption, inflation, drops in quality of life, less jobs, lower wages, etc.), but the sum of all the bad factors and the extreme situations you find in Rio is beyond anything I can see elsewhere I know in Brazil. We can see that the violence spread throughout, including the countryside. But not even the insanity that became the states in the Northeast, especially places like Bahia, has come close to the "normality" of somewhat frequent warzone like scenarios, with people needing to hide behind bus wheels and engine areas so rifle bullets won't hit them, etc...but maybe the corruption within government agents is becoming the same... Humans in general can get used to absurd realities, certainly Brazilians are very experienced in that, but Cariocas are definitely the champions...unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing. I've been living in São Paulo for the last 5 years and I agree with you on almost everything, except for loud neighbors. I've changed more than 10 apartments and neighborhoods and was probably lucky, or maybe Paulistanos are different. Also, I would note that my level of disgust is a bit lower because I don't use public transportation. So, I basically have 3 questions that I would really like to be answered: Have you lived in São Paulo or considered living there? Have you visited or lived in Vitória - Vila Velha? Why do you need to use public transport since Uber is very affordable? And again, thank you very much for sharing your Rio experience. It really means a lot to me to have an expat's 4-year perspective on Rio. Cheers!

I hear you. You're absolutely right. Most of the self-entitlement comes from the left-wing / woke indoctrination that contaminated institutions throughout the nation for the last 40 years or so. I am from Rio Grande do Sul state, expat since march 2000, had Rio de Janeiro as my home base from 1986 to 1992 and from 2000 to 2002. After that second period, we decided we had had enough from the crime and city's deterioration. We've been keeping a beach house in Região dos Lagos (Cabo Frio / Búzios / Arraial do Cabo) for 22 years now, but that's it. We have moved abroad for good, also on the wake of the political instability that resumed, especially after certain nefarious "justices" released a criminal from jail and installed him at the palace thr a st0len el3ction. Needless to comment about other aspects. It is a country with more than 1,000 political prisoners now, and counting. No rule of law anymore... It's a very somber period for any non-crimin4l person in the country. Might take decades to clean up...too many people live inside this matrix you so well described. Having said that, I saw the same lack of manners and "self entitlement" in Mainland China where I worked as expat for a few years. Another part of the World I had enough of...😓 Good luck at your new home. 🖖😎🧉

Nick, you lived in Toronto in Canada, not as big as Rio, but a big city, too. When I arrived in Canada (Toronto) as a tourist many years ago, the local media was noticing about a journalist working for "Le Journal de Montréal", who was shot 5 times on the back at the newspaper parking for writing an investigative report about a drug trafficking gang. Except the television and newspapers, I didn't hear anyone talking about this sad subject there. Can't you notice that people in big cities are already used to bad news and most can't be avoided and will always exist no matter what politicians do? Crimes will always exist, unfortunately in greater or lesser extent. In a party with 2.5 million people on the streets, people drinking etc. we can even consider "a blessing" that only one person was more seriously injured. This doesn't mean that people are blind, totally insensitive, and because of this incident they should forget completely that an international event like the revéillon in Copacabana, with tourists from the whole country and abroad was really bad for technical problems.

Hi, I'm Brazilian and I've been living in England for 16 years. I miss Brazil, especially the weather and the food. I don't know Rio de Janeiro. I'm from Curitiba, Paraná. I believe that the south of Brazil is completely different. I was surprised when you said that most Brazilians are like that, because it's not true. I'm sad about your negative experience, but Brazil is too big to be judged by just one city. Here in England, my niece was mugged. All countries have their ups and downs, of course, some more than others. I believe that Canada has them too. I mean, the world would be perfect for everyone, but we humans ruin everything. Hugs and good luck, may you find a better place for yourself.

The weather and food are some of the best things about Brazil, especially food from Minas. I've been to Curitiba which was one of the most safe cities I visited in Brazil. Curitiba can get boring though. Most cariocas are this way, not Brazilians though there are a lot of Brazilians who have the same mentality. Brazil is still more dangerous than England and Canada combined, maybe American is c aloser comparison but even America is a bit safer than Brazil depending on where you go. Thanks for watching.

I’m originally from Rio and I’ve been in US for 25 years. You’re absolutely right. After all these years here I became self aware how disfuncional Brazilians are, especially people from Rio. This behavior is highly disregarded in the United States so I had to adapt and quickly. I have never seen people so inconsiderate, selfish and self centered. People just pry into your life without any hesitation like they own you. Other horrible thing is the bad habit of discrediting others for no reason or basis. I really believe rich people could be worse than poor people. They are very belligerent and entitled.

Nick, I hear what you're saying, but I think the general lack of consciousness is the least of the issues. Colombia and some other Latin American countries I've observed that same. But in downtown and urban parts of Rio it's out of control. I'm seeing homeless lined up, maybe half a dozen in a row sleeping on the sidewalks. Yesterday saw a women shtting on in the middle of a main thoroughfare. Trash bags with used toilet paper broken open and strewn across the street and mountains of trash not collected. There are some American cities like San Fran that have gone this same direction, but really the level of social decay is off the charts. Sometimes the best way is to vote with your feet and get out.

Part 1 was good, part 2 it sounds like you need to go on TRT. I have lived in Rio for 2-3 years. i think, eventually, you being from Canada is coming through. You enjoyed the craziness of Brazil when you first got here, but eventually the good parts stopped being good, and the bad stuff started to get on your nerves. This is what happens to most gringos be it Brazil or Thailand. I find Brazil to be the perfect combo of first world vs developing world. I have lived in 12 countries so far.

@@nickmusttravel Hey man. I JUST watched your video and it somehow it came up in my feed and thought I should watch it. Ironically, to reference niteshj_'s comment above, I'm actually an expat who's been living and working in Thailand for over a decade, visited Brazil last year, and have considered moving there. There DO seem to be more numbers of red tape though from what I've found. However, many of the things you highlighted in this video were not only VERY informative and helpful, but actually exist here in Thailand too; people cutting in lines at stores, everyone rushing get on the buses, no consideration in various situations, riding motorcycles on the sidewalks. . things like that. Some of these bother me, but I don't get that bothered by others, and life is relaxed here, without any remote potential threat from violence (which certainly seems to be a little more of a tradition when it comes to South America. So would you think moving to Brazil would be worth it? Or would that answer basically be in the eye of the beholder?

Do colored gangs target Whites for robbery? The first time I was mugged in 1972 I was 12 years old and two Hispanic teens mugged me and took 10 cents from me while I was walking through Denver Central Park. I should have grouped up with a family but instead went into open space where I was mugged right in front of everybody!!! Hispanics have no trouble attacking Whites even though I am 25% Hispanic (my maternal grandfather was born in Mexico). My mom (half Hispanic / half Italian) thought Mexicans were fat, dirty and stupid so she married a White guy with blue eyes.

Hey Body ! It's hard to talk about a country and not offend or hurst anyone's feelings, I moved to Rio 3 years ago .I early retired at 55 due to medical conditions, I came for vacation, and I fell in love with Rio , the ocean , the green from the Mountains and Forrest, I sold everything in NY and moved here , I was lucky I didn't came blindness, I meet my fiance , she is Brasilian , so I was lucky, because I don't speak Portuguese, and I hate the way people drive here in Rio , she owns her Apartment , so I didn't start from 0 like a lot people that moved here , I don't used the public transportation , so I'm lucky in so many ways , there are good things moving to Brazil and so bad too , not everything is rainbows , for sure money ways, it's not Brainerd, you save on everything here , real state , food are cheap , but anything electronic is more expensive. I just came back a month vacation on States , and I realized how much difference are from the States and here . One of the bad things you constantly have to look around is even when you are driven . Another thing is that people are rude, and like you mention in the video , not everyone fallows the law , especially when they are driving. It seems they don't know what STOP sing Means ?! . But in general it's a beautiful country.

    • @nickmusttravel

If they get offended then that is too bad but I did mention in the video it is not the purpose of the video. You are right in what you said especially the stop sign, no one stops for pedestrians in the city but in a smaller town where I live it is more calm and people stop.

I'm from Rio and I can say the same. Rio is the perfect mix of the best and worst things you can find in the world, but the worst is really the worst, especially when talking about education and violence. I'm saying this while living in one of the best neighborhoods. I'm planning to leave this city soon.

Exactly! It is a mix of the best and worst. I think there are some really cool and nice things to see and do here. Education and the violence are the worst about Rio by far.

More bad than good, you're right about that. Rio isn't the marvelous city anymore, it is indeed unlivable. You don't need to apologize, every little thing you said is true

The sidewalk thing drives me crazy bc too much pride to get out of the way, everybody getting up on planes, busses etc is insane, it’s mental and makes no sense…Brazilians have way too much pride and that’s not good. Ppl that have low self esteem use pride as their currency. Brazil has a self esteem and emotional/mental problem. The country seriously needs group therapy lol.

Brazil is a massive country so you’re very privileged in terms of options. I have lived in England all my life and it’s very depressing here and only going down hill. I’d love to live in Brazil

Unfortunately, that annoying subculture you're complaining about is everywhere. LA, NY, London, Paris etc.... I've been in all 4 cities in the past year and am surprised by how rude and trifling people have become. I believe a big part of that is coming from social media. For example, many young social media influences push that tired behavior as being hip. SMH

I left Brazil when I was 19 and went to visit 30 years later, in 2015. My younger son, 13, was with me, and I stayed in a hotel right next to that park, VERANO STAY, RIO 2 condominium. Nice place. Nice area with a supermarket and many stores. Outside of that enclosed area was very dangerous. I was surprised when I TRIED to take the AMAZING BUS that takes you to the airport. The bus was clean and brand new, but the people were beyond rude. We got in line, and everyone ran to the doors when the train arrived. My son and I, unaccustomed to that, were shocked. We got in line again. First in line, the same thing happened. I was beyond ashamed to have my son watching that. We went through the same thing 4 times until a police officer heard me talking to my son in English and helped us board the train in a CIVILIZED MANNER. To this day, I haven't forgotten the experience, and I asked one of the "Cariocas," WHY THE HELL DO YOU BOTHER FORMING A LINE?
