For longer than I can remember I have been fascinated by garbage trucks of all kinds. I grew up watching City of San Diego Environmental Services Department (ESD) pass by my house every week. My first clear memory of a garbage truck was an old ESD Heil Rapid Rail on a CCC COE cab/chasis. I have been documenting the trucks I see on video or pictures to share with other enthusiasts and kids who have the same passion of the refuse industry. Some of you may ask if I have a favorite truck and the answer to that would be yes! 306 from ESD is my favorite truck since it has always stood out to me from the rest with its unique features and different design after its fire.

EDCO FL’s on the Roof
View of 1088 and 600 from the roof at work. Shot in 4K 24FPS (film style). I plan to do more videos like this in the future of the trucks at my work from high up. Unfortunately I didn’t get any real good pack cycles on camera the 2 collection days I was up there (maybe next time). Hope you enjoy

The New Pair of Trucks

Got a pair of new trucks at work over the last few weeks. Both are Autocar ACX New Way Mammoths. Brand new 2024, 1177 for trash and a hand me down 2022, 1139 for recycling. From what I understand 1088 now runs a recycling route to replace 627 which got scrapped and 600 will most likely go to an organics route for the rest of its time.
ESD Heil Rapid Rail 406 (The New 306)

My favorite of the new rapid rails the city has been getting. This one 406 has a black grill instead of the traditional gray/chrome design nor does it have the notch removed for a front mounted PTO pump or fan similar to WM’s Autocar ACX’s.

Here is EDCO’s new 1175 on its trash route. This truck replaced 1013 which got sent to a different route. Please excuse the background noise from the summer camp. These new trucks are definitely very quiet. Probably more quiet than the 2021’s.

Mostly normal collections aside from a few trainees with 443 on organics, helper on recycling in 403,, 454 sub on trash, 391 spare for 350 on trash, and subs in 460 and 406 in one day.
LA Sanitation East Valley Open House 2024

On May 04, 2024 I made the 2 hour drive up to LA Sanitation East Valley Open House. Had a lot of fun operating trucks and meeting other enthusiasts. The most interesting truck out was the white 520 EV Amrep which was capable of being zipped when lowering. Also 37222, 37033, and 36406 were out for demonstrations. Ware Disposal Peterbilt McNeilus Pacific Series 315

Happened to catch this truck by pure luck dumping a pair of trash dumpsters and coincidentally there was a pedestrian walkway bridge at this stop which ended up being perfect for filming from for a nice angle. This is my favorite model of McNeilus front loader the Pacific Series. Interestingly enough this stop used to be EDCO until recently serviced by 1013 and 922.
Fast ESD Peterbilt 520 on Recycling

My recycling driver in 382 and a clip of 361 speeding through recycling. These are definitely some of the fastest at idle trucks I’ve seen. Imagine what they would be like revving, they’d probably get done in record time. 350 is already fast too and gets done before 1:30 on Mondays (record is 12:30).

Over the last week I was able to capture all 3 streams at work plus a bonus recycle shot at a new stop across the street. Trash and organics were both relief drivers in the regular trucks at the time of making this video and 1088 got new rims on the front. Thank you to all the drivers and helper featured! Any fallen materials were picked up

Nothing too unusual happened during these collections aside from 360 helping 364 and 408 on recycling in the dark. Got 2 subs for trash including 417 and 432 then 455 helping on recycling during a big storm otherwise it was the normal trucks and drivers for the most part. As always thank you to the drivers! Ex Daily Disposal unit at Miramar running as a spare for 600 on recycling. This truck was repainted about a year ago and got this Autocar grill since the old Volvo one was in bad shape.

293 running as a spare for 304. This truck along with 295 were pulled for auction in the last few weeks. 302 is now the oldest unless it’s gone too.

391 trash with my usual guy from 378. 454 Greens.
304 trash and 443 organics both regular drivers. 314 is down because it got a hole with is leaking trash and liquid from the hopper. I also caught 306 today on trash one route over from me

305 sub trash, 443 organics usual guy, and no show recycling in my neighborhood again for second time in a row. 356 with a sub did the rest of the route and finished that around 2 and never came back to my area.

406 Has Always Stood Out To Me, Since it Not Quite Like The Usual Ones, So You Actually Hear It Coming. Awesome Video. Today I Found 811-146 on Greens, 832-012 on Trash, 815-450 on Trash And Strangely 815-347 On Greens.

Both the 320s and 520 amreps have seen better days. Time for Mcnelius ZR or more rear loaders
I agree but some aren't too bad. ZR's, Curbtenders, Scorpions, Labries, or Sidewinders would be ideal

@@trashman306 I got the 328 guy in 364 today for trash. He was having some issues with the arm 4 a minute. It was the 1st time he's been to my house since October last year. It's also the 1st time I've gotten 364 on trash since 2020. I missed greens

443 organics usual guy. Trash and recycling were both no show for me but finished most of the rest of the route. Trash was 426 with a sub who I’ve never seen and recycling was my regular guy in 350 since 382 broke this morning and my trash guy is out. The 328 guy was in 373 today and 408 did recycling across the street. Wonder what’ll show up tomorrow

@@blazeginsberg7278 I thought this was pretty normal since I sometimes get 366 as a spare for trash. It normally does trash in Rancho Bernardo on Tuesdays as far as I know. No clue what 447 normally does or where it works
