How to get a Knocked Loose guitar tone on the Quad Cortex (without using captures or plugins)
In this video, we will recreate Knocked Loose's hell/chainsaw tone on the Neural DSP Quad Cortex WITHOUT using captures, plugins or pedals. Everything used is stock on the QC. This will work for the entire You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To album, which has three scenes. Given the nature of this tone, it's impossible to get 1:1 recreation, but we experiment with getting close to what the QC currently offers without a Swollen Pickle fuzz or Boss HM-2.
Skip to the final tone timestamp to hear our final tone. It's not the same, but it's gnarly for stock device models. I abandoned using the EQ to shape the sound; it sounded too hectic compared to the live tone, but I still think it could b...

In this video, we will recreate the guitar tone of Open My Eyes by Rival Sons by building the preset on the Neural DSP Quad Cortex. I learned this song in a few minutes. It has a great all-around blues rock tone using an amp I've never put in a preset before. Also learned the Matchless DC30 is based on a Vox AC30, which explains why it achieves this sound so well. In this video, we will recreate the guitar tone of Perfect Soul by Spiritbox by building the preset on the Neural DSP Quad Cortex. I learned the song in about ten minutes and just the main riff, so ignore the incorrect parts and focus on the playing. I cut the playthrough parts down so it's not the whole song. We do use the paid Archetype: Gojira plugin on the QC. Preset available here: cloud.n...

Gain staging/Input levelling on the Quad Cortex: Does it even matter and what should you do?
Просмотров 851Месяц назад
The aged old debate of whether or not you should touch the input level on your Quad Cortex. This was inspired by the recent discussion and reopened debate about signal-to-noise ratio and levelling your inputs. Do you tickle the red like some recommend, or do you leave it at 0db and let the QC handle it? Do you booster after the A/D conversion in the chain, or should it all be done at the analog...

Building Blues Inspired Tones on the Quad Cortex
Good video. It's bizarre to think that there may be an issue with my QC. So, I have my input gain at +6 or +7 for my charvel so cal with high output humbuckers.
This is great could you do a slipknot tone
Absolutely will give it a shot. I know Jim Root has switched to the Quad Cortex now and has been a huge Orange amp guy, so he's using captures. But makes me wonder if you could get close with something on the QC already. Would be a good challenge.
This song is amazing, good job. Hope your hand is better by now, it sucks to not be able to play at the top of your game when you love to do so
Great job. Might have been easier trying to get the tone using the big muff, since I'm pretty sure that is what the swollen pickle circuit is based on.
I struggle with the QC fuzzes to be honest with you. Every time I try and use them they just don't seem to sound great. But it might be a skill issue on my part.
Are you operating in windows PC? Does it matter wheather Windows or Mac for Quad cortex ?
Yep, Windows here. But I also use Cortex Control with my Mac too. Environment doesn't matter as everything is done on the QC itself anyway and you're just remotely controlling.
not me binging all the tone recreation videos... love your channel dude
Awesome!!! Thank you!
1,600 usd yall getting price gouged lol
At the beginning, wouldn’t you want to turn the Output of the amp up for more volume rather than the Master? Great video, was fun to follow along! Thanks
Any chance you can do Knocked Loose - Suffocate guitar tone next?
Funny you say that, after hearing how damn good it sounded on Jimmy Kimmel, I'm planning on it imminently. And going to try and do it without using cloud captures the Swollen Pickle. I've got some ideas around stacking overdrives and boosts to get the tone I want to explore on the QC. Let's hope it translates from my mind to real life though, haha.
I'm going to realese this song to. And i made quite the same preset. It's reassuring 🙂 Pickups have a real impact however.
Hi Dwayne, nice video. I am relatively surprised by the result by combining 2 overdrives. I do the same exercise with each cover I make to find a sound that is most similar to the original. I love doing this. Obviously I like to see others do it too. 🙂
Thank you. I honestly was surprised too. I don't usually combine overdrives as I find they tend to clash, definitely not the usual. I just checked out and liked some of your vids (and subscribed too). Your tones are great.
You deserve way more views! Your tones are great and even work in my GX100. I just cycle through the amps and one almost always matches whatever amp you are using in the Cortex.
Thanks for the kind words. That's awesome you're building these on the GX100 too and they're translating well.
thank you so much, great sound!!!!
Love this!
I followed your steps, I use QC as an interface and I use Reaper, place a track called ID and insert another track called Reamped, leave the button open to record, then in the ID route and hardware outputs place 5/6 USB input ( grid), on the other hand in Reamped: usb (grid) 7/8 output and then I press the general record button and it does not receive anything or let's say the signal does not arrive again! I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON :(
Long-term reviews are very precious !!!
could you do a bring me the horizon style tone? For example true friends?
Great song, absolutely!
@ great!!!! can't wait to hear it 🤩

woah what a tone!
You did an amazing job! I was already looking for Silverchair QC stuff! Can I download them from the CQ?
You certainly can. The link in the description will let you download this tone.
Awesome! We need the clean tones too😊
Weird your having bugs with Cortex Control. Literally never experienced a bug or a crash. I'm on Windows FWIW.
I guess that's the problem with Windows, too many variables that can cause issues. It crashes on me at least once every time I open it. This on-top of the fact if I leave it plugged in too long (like I mentioned in the video) there is some weird memory leak bug thing where the audio stops working properly and you just get garbage noise very reminiscent of the early days of the QC audio drivers where they would glitch a lot. It's fixed by restarting the QC, so effectively the same as probably unplugging and plugging it back in. Maybe I am just unlucky, lmao.
@@DwayneCreatesI do have a ASIO driver bug when recording or using a plugin for about a half hour. They know about it. I’ve been back and forth with them and they finally acknowledged it was a driver bug about a month ago. Still waiting on a fix 😢. Sounds a lot like the issue you’re having.
@@StupidGuitarHopefully they fix the issue soon, because if it's the issue I'm experiencing that would be huge for me.
Really good summary and I agree pretty much with all your points. I've had it since launch too. I also recently got the ToneX to play around with and I have to say that I like the tones almost as much as the Quad Cortex. It is very, very good. It will never replace the QC as it's too limited to gigging but I use it almost every day and I now bring it to jams. I'm also really enjoying the plug-ins on the Quad Cortex, can't wait for the rest to be added.
The ToneX would make a great backup if you're ever in a jam where something happens playing with the QC. It's crazy how cheap the ToneX is for what you get and they seem to be updating it with some awesome QoL improvements too.
great video!! Thanks for that
This was so helpful! I am concerned that you may be doing software development on a windows machine. I hope you are okay.
Haha, sometimes I do. Primarily dev'ing on a mac, but when you're doing .NET stuff, Windows is a necessary evil.
Thanks for the video Fundamentally any modeller should be able to recreate the same scenario as someone plugging into an actual amp. When we plug into an amp the sound will change based on the guitar and the pickups. Active high gain pickups will push the amp more than a vintage single coil guitar would. If the tone isn't right you just adjust the amp controls. Any physical modeller device that forces a user to adjust the input gain is flawed in its design in my opinion. I suspect the QC is designed properly just like the Fractal devices are so if you use the stock amp models they should work as intended with input gain at zero. Where it gets blurry is the 3rd party neural capture because if the capture was made with anything but input gain at zero then our stock strat won't sound like a strat with that capture until we match the input gain to the same setting of the actual original capture. All we can hope is the captures were made at zero input gain. I have an Axe FX and the QC plus a lot of tube heads and to save headaches I treat all the same and leave input gain at unity and tweak the sound in the actual preset or on the amp itself based on whatever guitar I have plugged in. Way less headaches. If the QC 3rd party capture or QC amp model doesn't sound right I leave the input as is and tweak the preset until it does sound right and then I save the preset. Job done. I agree however that the plug in world is a complete different beast and my approach goes out the door because they all make their plug in reference levels different. Thankfully I don't really use plug ins.
Singlecoil = 0db Humbacker = -6db Active pickups = ?
It would be great if there were a way to change the I/O settings per preset if we wanted to, but I don’t know how that could be implemented without being really finicky
I'm a software developer and have thought about this. Considering the input level is controlled via the interface, it's already controlled by software, seems to me they could add an input block to the QC which just controls the overall input level we already set. And if a preset has an input block, on load, it just sets the input level to whatever the preset specifies. I'd love to see this.
@@DwayneCreates Technically, they could almost do it right on the pre-existing input selection block where the default gate is contained too, don't you think? That would be wicked. It seems like it should inherently be there but was an afterthought.
I was seven years too late for this :(
Can I request goodbye Carolina by Marcus king or open my eyes by rival sons!! Your recreations are spot on and I would love to see how you go about getting those!!

so cool to see how you do it, thanks for the video :) how do you know to use a compressor for example, which didn't show in Equipboard?
Good question. A compressor is good for evening out the volume between quieter and louder notes and prevents notes from dying out too quickly, and it can also add a subtle punch or sparkle to the tone. Basically, it makes it more present and defined without adding distortion. Elevates your clean tones for sure. I also feel like Chris Cheney gets some of the effects of a compressor from the hollow body of his guitar which resonates a little more than mine did.
this is so cool! could you do a video of your thought process to achieve guitar tones? it would be helpful for those like me who want to learn to do that
Great idea. Sometimes there's a bit to it, other times depending on the song, it's straightforward. But I'll definitely get something up.
A few of your Antemasque videos are no longer available. Did you disable them or delete them completely? I'd like to have a copy of them if possible
Hey man, sorry. I don't know what happened, they were set to unlisted.

I'm starting to make covers with my quad cortex. Designing new sound is a very interesting job. If you want to check it, I would like to have your opinion. 🤟

This is amazing content, thanks for sharing mate. I'm also following in cortex cloud and got some of your presets, well done thanks thanks once again for sharing this content.
it sounds wrong because the recording is not in standard A=440. Try it in A=445hz

Any reason I'm getting a overdriven feedback when I record in Logic with my Quad Cortex, I'm using input 3 and stereo out in Logic and Input 1 and multiout on QC?
is the high EQ wide layer the actual guitar stem?
Appreciate your effort, Ive been also trying to tone match for various songs and genres and this has helped immensely !
