I believe it's actually the end of the first half of the first arc. And sure, if Apollo wishing for humans to have wings isn't concrete confirmation of your theory that Zatch would be able to fly by the end of the series, then I don't know what is LOL Love how Zatch didn't even use glue to fix the gate, he used LAUNDRY STARCH xD And here's a fun fact: when Kiyomaro points out that Apollo's flute music is a unique melody, that's because it was intended to be a hypothetical opening theme to an anime for this series, which the series finally premiered around the time of volume 11's release in Japan. And sure enough, the Japanese version of that scene where Apollo plays the flute has him playing a snippet of the original first opening of the anime! Rops and Apollo did indeed fight Robnos and his partner. Good eye! It's not specified where this battle took place, as Apollo travels all over the globe. The interesting thing about Apollo is that he seems like a really chill guy... But there's such a thing as being TOO carefree. And because he was so laid back, he was dismissive of Rops' desire to become king. Whenever Rops would get mad at him for saying he didn't care about the battle, Apollo would write it off like "Haha, relax buddy. It's all good." Even though it WASN'T all good... Apollo was unintentionally disregarding Rops' feelings because he just likes to go with the flow. Then, Kiyomaro asked Apollo if he was really okay with the devil-may-care attitude he was showing toward life and wondered if Apollo, as a contender in the battle for king, yearned for something more... For a purpose. When Apollo sensed Kiyomaro's conviction, he realized that Kiyomaro has a sense of maturity and wisdom beyond his own and wanted to explore it in a battle. But he wanted to keep this a secret so that he could analyze Kiyomaro all throughout, so he had no real answer to give to Kiyomaro for why he changed his mind and decided to challenge Zatch. He kept making up lame excuses and it ticked Kiyomaro off because he wouldn't give him a straight answer. Normally, Apollo's used to seeing Rops just handle opponents with ease and then they'd leave together. So once Apollo saw how far Kiyomaro was willing to go for Zatch, and how much Rops was resisting when he was getting pinned down, Apollo finally realized that he was being inadvertently selfish and that this must mean a lot more to Rops than he thought. And that's what made him get his powerful second wind and caused him to start fighting with conviction the same way as Kiyomaro. Apollo's ultra-instinct power (lol) is a special intuition that is basically a gift of insight. He can feel out a person's aura or what lies deep in their soul. That power also allows him to see future events briefly before they happen. Apollo has pretty much all the references to the Greek sun god that you can think of... A company with a sun emblem, musical talent, prophetic powers... it's all there. Now to explain the Baou Zakeruga and the battery, the best way to explain this is actually as a mechanic in the video games. In the Mamodo Battles video game, you'll see that the character's blue mana bar is pushed pretty far inward. Then, as they keep casting spells and landing melee attacks, that bar gets pushed OUTWARD more and more, until it starts to flash. And when it flashes, that's when they can cast their ultimate spell. That's all there is to it. You can't use your biggest spell in a battle right off the bat (unless you did some special preparation beforehand, but that'll be explained in the distant future). You need to start off with smaller spells in order to build up the TENSION in the book so that it can act as a key to unlock your best move with each battle. For reasons I dare not spoil, Baou Zakeruga is a very special case because it will physically drain Kiyomaro of all his physical strength after it's used. He always collapses when Baou Zakeruga is cast... and there's a very solid (and very cool) reason for that. One that will be revealed much later in this series. Sadly, the colors of the spell book do not necessarily play a part in the contents of the book or how it's used. But sometimes, certain colors can represent higher status. For example, Brago's pitch black book with the white lines is very unique and means he has quite the reputation. I really enjoyed the filler scenes where we see Rops meet Apollo in that far-off country. Sadly though, it was retconned because it made it sound like Apollo learned Rops' name from the spell book itself. Spell books do not say anything about a demon's name... it was revealed later on that Apollo learned Rops' name a different way. All we know for sure about how Apollo met Rops is that Apollo was traveling through India, where he spotted Rops on a little makeshift raft that used a leaf as a sail. We see this in some artwork of them that you see at the very start of volume 9 as soon as you open the book. Super excited for more, as always! I think my easy obsession with Kurapika is due to seeing the 1999 version first. I've noticed many fans who start with 2011-which are the majority of fans these days-don't often realize the full depth and strength of his character as early on. Even the way he was introduced in 1999 was beautiful (noticing a spider on his dining table and skillfully flinging it away with his fork; then dodging projectiles on the ship without even opening his eyes), and clearly alluded to his strength and emotional depth. He also fought Hisoka. The Yorknew arc in 1999 was pure poetry. The best arc between both versions to me. The director was the same director for Evangelion, and he uncovered so many layers of Kurapika's character both visually and with little dialogue.
