Look up “entry vortex of danger”. You braked too early, released and then braked again meaning your move was too late in an ever decreasing gap. Having not even tip of your wing beside the rear tire of the car in front doesn’t entitle you to racing room at all. Quite the opposite actually. It’s too late for a move and you’ll likely cause a crash. Luckily the other car got spooked and left you a bunch of room, if not you were crashing, corner cut or not.
