Photoshop for the Scientist
Канада
Добавлен 20 июн 2015
I've been working in research labs for the past 10 years and, like most people, I made extensive use of PowerPoint for building my figures and when I did use Photoshop, I wasted a lot of time doing things manually or destructively (even though I thought I was a pro at the time!). Then a couple of years ago I got a job analyzing histology and microscopy images in Photoshop and realized how little I knew. I couldn't believe some of the tools that were available; tools that I would never have discovered otherwise. Since then, I've spent literally hundreds of hours working through tutorials, completing mastery-level courses on Lynda.com and experimenting and analyzing my own data. I'd now like to share what I've learned, and hopefully save you the hours and headaches I spent figuring all this stuff out by trial and error!
Measuring Areas in Google Earth with Photoshop CC
In this video, we take a shot at a RUclips user request to measure areas from Google Earth images. In this case, I'll be comparing deforestation in the Amazon rain forest from 1996 to 2016, because it's Saturday night, and I want to feel sad.

In this video, we'll look at how to combine a folder full of 20X IF images into a single composite using the Photomerge function in Photoshop. Before I knew about this function, I used to align things by hand like a total loser. I hope to spare you the same fate.

How about the absolut dog shit rulers on the sides? The are so hard to see
Hi, great Video. Do you think one can use this method also for Western Blot or does it need some modifications?
I noticed right after you click on ''RGB', on the right upper corner the color box shifted to red. but I followed the same steps, my boxes are still grey and I could't select red
Very nicely done, thanks for this helpful video. I agree with your hesitance in post-processing microscopy images. It is important to always keep an ethical mindset when adjusting your images.
Excellent. Thank you.
Is there any way to save the visible markers to a jpeg?
Good Job Man
This is very helpful. But how to edit each layer like if want to change the color.
how do i calibrate real life distances? Like, I know an object in my picture is 1m. How do I do for photoshop to know that, and then measure the rest?
And how could you save the image with the numbering merged into it?
WHY THE FUCK IS YOUR INTRO SO LOUD I SHAT MYSELF
Thank you so much! All of these different Photoshop tutorials on RUclips are either too quick or too long, this was simple and quick, but not too quick! I'll be sure to look at your videos for anything else I need help with. 😁
You are a king 👑
Now that's a great video. Thank you! This helped me out a ton!
really helpful video! thanks dude
Just saw this, super useful!!!
nicely and shortly explained as it should, well done!
Great help. Thanks for posting!
If I want to edit one of the layers because I forgot to add one particle or figure , what do I do?
Cannot find measurement log in my CS5 version. Any idea on how to get it?
The measurement tool is pathetic in PS it sucks
Thank you so much. :)
what if i want to do the opposite? go from color to the SEM style?
Thank you very much. Can transmission electron microscopy micrographs be retouched in Photoshop?
This was a perfect and simple explanation! I made three gifs: axial, coronal, and sagittal. They all look great!
Thank you so much! You are a life saver! :-)
THANK YOU! I used this method to calculate the square footage of different planting areas in a landscape design. You just convert the pixels to square feet and voila I can figure out how many plants I need! Writing instructions for other drawers/landscapers that need a square foot rather than a percentage as this tutorial describes. In my drawing 1 ft = 100 pixels. Therefore 1 ft squared is equal to 100 x 100 = 10,000 pixels. Divid 10,000 into the measurements gotten from photoshop and this yields square feet. In my drawing one of my areas was 4,441,115. Dividing 10,000 into that yielded 444.1 ft squared. If your scale is 1 foot = 200 pixels, do 200 x 200 = 40,000 pixels squared. Divide 40,000 into the area obtained in photoshop.
Glad you found the video useful! I have another video about measuring areas, but this time in Google Earth. It's essentially the same approach, but might be slightly more applicable to landscaping applications. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/Q9lYeyfkLoQ/видео.html
Thanks for the videos. I save my file as per your instructions, and flattened my image. You mentioned it would also save a copy with the layers but I can't seem to access that copy of the file. Would happen to know how to access the file with the original layers?
feeling blessed that you made this video.
nice....thank you
Thank you, you saved my life!!!
Thank you for the video, this was quite helpful and very much appreciated!
Great tutorial. This is very usefull not only for medicine! Thanks!

Great content! Thank you.
I don't have wheel icon in my version 10. Where is it?
Thanks for the tutorial, It really help me out!
perfect thank you. I just added the 100th "like" :)
This guy sounds like the host, Ben Krasnow, from the Applied Science channel: ruclips.net/video/K297toCvHtY/видео.html What makes me think that? The amount of swallowing... weird, I know, just something I noticed.
Very helpful. Thank you very much.
Please, make a tutorial for colouring a TEM image.
What is the version of photoshop you have? I've Photoshop Cs2 and it doesn't have the quick access tool
I believe at the time of this video I was using Photoshop CC 2015. I would not be surprised if CS2 is missing some features -- that version is over 15 years old!
