Mid-Position Valve - How it works
Просмотров 14 тыс.4 года назад
A 3-port mid-position central heating valve has some clever electronics inside. This video takes a look, explains how it works and some of the issues that can arise. If you're not familiar with Y-plan wiring, you may find it helpful to watch this first - ruclips.net/video/9nVijLyEC-k/видео.html
W Plan - Priority Hot Water

This video explains how a priority hot water system using a diverter valve is wired. It uses a simple line drawing to explain the component parts and how they interconnect in the wiring centre. The system is then built and tested.
Y-plan - mid-position diverter valve
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.4 года назад
In this video you will be shown an easy to read wiring diagram for a heating system using a 3-port mid-position valve. I'll explain how I wire the system and how to trace wires in a junction-box for fault-finding. I then show the system in practice and put it to the test. There are issues with 3-port valves which sometimes cause problems; these are mentioned and will be looked at in more detail...
Central Heating Wiring Made-Easy - The Basics
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.4 года назад
This video explains the basic structure of a switch and how switches interconnect to control the hot water circuit in an S-plan, two-port zone valve, system. This is emphasised using a simple line-drawing. The components are assembled, wired into a junction box and the system tested.

Ideal Esprit Combi Boiler on the bench
Thanks for this video. I have had problems with my heating working intermittently for the last few months. It will work fine for a few days or maybe a week and then the boiler won’t fire when the call for heat is made. If I turn it all off for a couple of days and then start again it will work again for a while. I assumed it was the boiler at fault nd maybe the PCB but then I noticed the hot water on its own works fine, boiler fires no problem and it works as it should. It only seems to be when CH only is selected. I can hear the boiler clicking on and off trying to start so I think it communicates with the room stat, goes to start and then the mid position actuator doesn’t move as it should. Does this sound the likely issue to you because if it was the brass valve then the hot water wouldn’t work either? Thanks.
love what you do. need to know you, I need your help please. where are you based roughly?
Brilliant, had me going round the bend with a Biasi advance 30c combi. Sometimes the CH would work but as I was using a netatamo over the Internet I saw my gas bill plunge to next to nothing with the tenants complaining that the heating was off. I was adamant the heating was on because netatmo told me it was on my smartphone!!
Many thanks for another great video, so thoroughly explained! I was worried why my motorised valve was hot at 6:15 when everything was off, and now I know why (but not really happy about it). Still not fathomed out why my boiler shuts down for 10 mins when the valve changes over from HW to heat🤔
Great explanation, thank you! Helped me find the fault.
Massively underrated video. It's probably one of the best explanations on YT. Really well done.
Thanks for that, I thought it was a stepper motor in there. now I know
thanks for your help i tested my motor its OK . but when its in it will not switch bact to hot water no power too the motor
This is not dhwp
Great video thanks - does the synchron motor normally get hot holding the valve shut?
Yes and leads to premature wear in my opinion.
This is by far one of the best videos that addresses the white elephant in the room…everyone knows about it but don’t actually know what it is for and how it works 🍺🍺🍺
Great vid mate. Thanks
Hi Adam. Great video. I set up my system similar to yours but I used choc box instead of wago wiring centre. If, as you suggested, having 2 zones for heating and one zone for hot water (3 switches in programmer), I presume you would need to use a 3 channel programmer as opposed to 2 channel in your video
Do you recommend the socket and see
It works fine, is reliable and not too expensive.
Thanks
Great tutorial Adam, thanks
Great video Adam. Many thanks
Best explanation I've seen thanks
Are these low voltage motors? and how many Volts in the supply leads?
They are 230Vac
At 0m57s you have your answer. 220-240V ac
Hi, i was getting no movement or resistance on the spring when all power is off the switch to go from auto and manual is lose, when turn on heating or hot water nothing is moving and boiler not firing up but pump is running. I’m a gas safe plumber just looking for some advice. Thanks
Body spindle may be stuck, remove head, check spindle. look inside head to see if spring is broken. Boiler should fire on HW without 3PV operation, you may need to investigate this separately. Good luck.
Nice mechanical conzruction. I think the Electronic board of boiler add the signal and it periodically round, when the boiler heats the radiators, and you open a hot water tap. But I want ask some question. What is the heating and what the hot water storage tank heating, the pin out or in? What is the base state for example diverter valve(Ariston), from above, I ask because my old Ariston quadriga heats the radiators too when only hot water is used, and vice versa. It strarted when I turned on the thermostat after 4 months of summer heating break.
You definitely need to make more videos your explanation is spot on mate
Best video on the subject so far. And about half as long as the rest. 👍🏼
Brilliant 👍🏼
Hi adam your videos are extremely useful please keep them comming thankyou 👍
Really enjoyed that video. Excellent .. great explanation. Just subscribed.. Cheers. Mac
You should test at the fused spur then then junction box You don’t know if the earth conductor has come out at the fused spur if so you’re test results would be invalid
I've seen systems where the earth has been used as a switching wire. Just remember the earth wire protects the cable and would cause the circuit breaker to trip if someone cut through the cable.
Nicely explained but i can see one problem, all cables need a earth wire, as the earth wire protects the cable if someone was to cut through the cable or if there was a problem with in the cable.
Adam Carter..... wow how you doing mate, all good by the look of it, take care hope all is well
I'm good thanks. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Please make more vids if you have the time :)
Its really great to have all the components semi isolated and view the sequence of events.
yes first class video, would be awesome if we could get a measurement of the partially rectified DC current going back to the PCB from the electrode.
These videos for Gas Engineers who are just gaining experience are awesome, thanks so much Mr. Carter.
2 awesome !
Fantastic. Best tutorial on you tube.
amazing! I got stuck today trying to determine which wire did what on a three port valve. Thank you so much for the comprehensive and clear explanation.
Just wondering who makes that wiring centre??
That's a wago L32 wiring centre
Hi thanks for the wideo, When valve 3 port is set to central heating it is all the time a hot motor and there is a soft noise coming from it, It is suppose to be like this ? How do I change to heating water everything is ok
instaBlaster
How can I achieve Hot Water priority on an S plan plus system please?
Instal a relay switch between room stat and zone valve. Relay powered by room stat, hot water off to common, normally open to feed zone valve. Programmer set to gravity so that hot water on is tied to heating on. Hope that makes sense. Good luck.
@@adamcarter781 Thank you - Much appreciated.
Great Video, very well done. My HE24 packed up and will only try to fire up if left for a good while. It fired up before but when I called for hot water it crashed and gave an L9 code. User manual (I think) is saying thermistor or heat exchanger blockage. Am I missing something?
Hi, thanks for watching. Only gas safe registered engineers should work on gas appliances.
@@adamcarter781 I was not working on it, I was trying to diagnose it
Excellent video. Thanks for your effort to educate people.
Another wonderful educational video by you Adam. Your videos and your demonstration skill is far better than most existing related videos. Well done.
sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Callum Edward Instablaster :)
@Korbyn Xander Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Great- Simple but an example of an effective and educational video. Well-done
Nice one ☝️
Thanks for that video just fixed mine
great video, our ideal esprit he 35 just packed up today ! fires up for hot water immediateley when taps/shower operated but will not fire for central heating, have hive thermostat calling for heat but boiler display still shows a 0, am thinking pcb has died ?????
Hot water working suggests pcb ok. Most likely issue is lack of hard signal from Hive to boiler...
@@adamcarter781 thanks for your reply, checked that, seems to be ok,drops out when hive off then cuts in when call for heat activated from hive, strange as boiler fires up for hot water. thanks again
