Floating or Modulating?

A modulating actuator was wired as floating and was creating a short circuit. After installing a new transformer I reduced the circuit until I found the short. I installed a Pelican Pearl to control both of the modulating actuators on the unit.

I install a Pelican PM5 to get control of a chiller, boiler, and their pumps. We had to install a transformer, 4 relays, and run conduit outside. The chiller and boiler were both enabled by their flow switches anytime the pumps would run, but we separated them so we can run the pumps by themselves if needed for freeze protection.

Enthalpy sensors are unreliable after the first few years of their life. We would much rather use a dry bulb sensor to control an economizer. I'll show you a way to do that on an older AAON unit without needing to buy any parts.

on the new hardware m2, can you disable the econ, got one 2011 unit that someone panned over the econ and disconnected the 15 pin harness, gives me error 150 - change enthalpy settings. figured i need to change the cooling modes to not allow for free cooling or disable the econ. just learning these prodigy controls

What are those jumpers for
@desieranks sometimes the fire alarm, or high static pressure safety will be wired to DI4 but in this case those safeties are wired in series with the fan start/stop signal so a jumper is needed on DI4. The input numbers are programmable and can change, but that's the basic idea. A jumper will be put in place if the safeties are wired in somewhere else.

I love keeping things simple and mechanical....i don't need a laptop, access to software or have to pull points, write code etc etc....and it works just fine. Old school was just fine....now everything is digital or analog. All for a false sense of "efficency"

@kcomfortsystemshvac7060 terminal 10 is the power supply, putting out 25vdc. Terminal 1 is the input that receives the signal back from the dry contact out the start/stop relay.
I'm just north of Washington in BC and I see these systems on pretty much every new construction institutional building (school, rec centre, hospital, etc). Although typically they pipe the chiller condenser directly to the building heating loop as the new construction buildings usually use low temperature hot water systems which allow the chiller and boiler to run together. The boiler is usually downstream of the condenser in the heating system so it can top it up when heating demands are higher and cooling demands lower.
It's almost like someone else got confused over Sink and Source about halfway through the relay wiring.

Vfd the relay is a dry set of contacts
@@christopherlalla4894 are the dry set getting command from bas to enable the vfd? do you wire the cube relay in series with the end switches?
@@danieltolfo9332 The 25VDC is generated in the VFD on terminals 9, and 10. The Rib relay and the safety devices are all just dry contacts that allow the 25VDC to come back to the VFD terminal 1, which is configured as the "run enable" input. In this instance there is an added layer of complexity because the "Ice Cube" relays are energized by the safeties and break the 25VDC circuit on behalf of the safeties. Its kind of rare to see that setup. Most of the time the safeties break the 25VDC circuit themselves.
@@building-automation wires that come off the safety would to direct to the coil of relay? How would the other wires be relative to vfd?
@danieltolfo9332 yes, the wires from the safeties control the coils of the relays. The 25vdc is run through each relay on the contact side. Normally open and common.

A few months ago I ran into a McQuay SWP with the factory inlet guide vanes. The microtech 1 board was not sending the 12v to the on board relay the closed the contacts to give it 24v to close. It had an old belimo with a potentiometer for feedback to the board. It got quoted to add a drive to it and lock the vanes open

Bad practice, if one phase has blown you should always replace other two phases as they will have been put under load. This could explain why fuses keep tripping. 😊
not sure if you noticed... the blown fuse was on a 120v while the other 2 are on 208. it's not part of the phase but post transformer and they used a triple fuse block instead of a double + single
And now we need to find out why there needs to be a box of fuses and what is cousing the fuse to blow. Thats the video i want to see.

You may already know this, but if you are going to put in a switch, talk to IT about that, sometimes our switches will ge configured to only allow one device per port, you plug that switch in and two devices and it will either only allow the first or will shutdown the port entirely. They may also prefer to provide a switch to keep certain management and diagnostic functions available. Even if the port protection features to block unauthorized switches are not in use, it may still create headaches later when doing diagnostics or troubleshooting, IT generally wants to know what and where all the switches are and it's not just a power or control thing, it helps us do our job better, also in some compliance things we may need to know everything on the network.
Some controllers provide a secondary network isolated from the primary. Just asking, how can a switch or any hardwired devices on secondary affect anything on the primary?

Those YK chillers need a start pulse and a stop pulse. Its a more of a latching switch type of action. You can add a start/stop relay...give it a run command and then pull the relay and it'll still run.
Yes, I noticed that. I had to use a N.O/N.C relay. Normally open calls it on, and normally closed calls it off.

What do you do when it’s not there
@@andrewamaya8109 There are a few tricks you can do. Start by doing a walk through of the facility and take note of where all the devices are(pumps, chillers, boilers, ect.) Then take a good look at the controller and identify the different types of inputs and outputs. For the outputs you can use your meter to determine the different signal types being sent to get an idea of what they might control. For the inputs you might see a resistor in parallel which would indicate a 4-20mA sensor. Then trace some of the wires out of the control box and see which direction they go. If you're lucky you'll see conduits going in a direction of a group of devices like over toward all the pumps for instance. Once you have an understanding of the general layout and the signal types being sent you could begin pulling one output wire at a time from the controller and see what turns off. It would be a good idea to shutdown the chillers before you start pulling wires. If you kill a pump, or shut an isolation valve while the chiller is running you could send it into alarm or worse. Its also nice to shut everything down so its quiet and you can hear valve actuators move, or contactors pull in. If you are going to jump voltage to bring on a binary output you had better know what you are doing, it would be easy to damage components if you make a mistake.

I was simulating an outside air temperature so I could observe the economizer logic in action, but yes i suppose I could have put my resistor where the outside air temperature sensor connects to those wires by just unplugging the sensor and putting the resistor in place. It would have been cleaner that way.
