I was unable to locate the swan during my visit

Im from yorkshire mate summer 89 i was working in swan walk doing panels a gable ends i was 19

Lived there 1976 and unto 1977 as tiny tacker.

Melton was a nice country town feel town to grow up in the early 80s - it’s a shame that feeling has long gone

The Old Rockingham Arms was demolished a few years back and housing sits on the site now.

I remember the Lotto/scratch card booth in the middle of swan walk, in the days before the national lottery started.

I loved seeing this, Horsham being my hometown. I grew up as a child there and recall the red brick shopping centre prior to this. I was 22 when the new centre was built and worked in the Tie Rack in 1990. I remembered clearly as if it was yesterday from that footage

sun alliance and HDC , what a corrupt ,beligerant team , totaly ruined Horsham .

My main memory of Dixons back in the 1980s was the plethora of CB radios being sold as legal versions came out and then home computers. I also bought a stereo music centre from that very store, I wondered what happened to it? Could still be in my storage unit from when I cleared my mum's house out, boxed up and unused.

This is incredible. Thank you for sharing. My parents built at 17 Hilton Way in 1985 and we moved in March 1986. They are still there in 2022. This is spectacular.

Been there done 10 years.sad for the people and their livelihood I am 70 now and can't think of a better place to go. I have travelled worldwide but still my love and favourite.

I found this mesmerizing. I grew up in Horsham and this footage is amazing. I do vaguely remember Swan Walk being built (I was 10 at the time). I appreciate that whoever took the video stopped to look carefully at Dixons and the phone booth etc. Almost as if they knew those things wouldn't be around so much in the future.

Toolern Creek Bridge is right next to Hannah Watts Park now I believe?

Not too long ago walking through Uxbridge I noticed they were refurbishing the Met. Underneath the sign they were taking down it seemed like the one shown in this video was underneath it. Great video thanks for sharing .

Shame you didn’t film along north street heading towards the station. 1989 would have been the year when the building works were in full swing for the new Sun Alliance building. I remember Horsham very well as a kid and teenager in the 70s & 80s. It’s a real shame how they destroyed park street and north street between 1988 & 1990.

Barringo as a wild reserve park does not exist. I go there nearly every week to do some photography. Now it is possible to see kangaroos, echidnas, and a few deer that are very aggressive, but in the open and very wild. Kookaburras and other birds are part of this new area. I remember that 20 years ago there was a wooden tower where the childrens played. Now is so different that even myself still can figure the area any more. A local told me that the reserve was parcelled and people now own and build their houses there. It was a great place for family fun.

It was good to see Skiathos again through your video! Last time I visited was the year 1962 and there wasn't even an airport there yet! Thank you for your video and thank you for visiting Greece!

This is how I remember Horsham, the pubs were many in the 80’s an 90’s. I used to work at Caffyns Springfield Rd, we used to have a Christmas knees up in the Mitchel Arms.

wow.. I was about 13 living in Melton then. My uncle was driving a Comet truck back then too. I'll show this to him.

That's before the Western Freeway bypassed it and the Western was proclaimed a national highway Melbourne to Adelaide

Such an interesting and evocative 5 minutes of viewing for anyone that lived in Horsham in the 80s. Although, I wonder what inspired the camera man to take such mundane footage at the time, especially at what looks like about 7am on a Sunday morning!

Wow! I have fond memories as a child visiting this place several times. Now I live in the area (Woodend) and have tried without luck to figure out where it was.

As a former airman at Uxbridge from 1959 through to 1963, I can attest to the fact that I've washed my teeth with the ale in many of these establishments, especially at The Swan & Bottle, though I studiously avoided the infamous Watney's Red Barrel that was served in that pub, which should have been put to better use cleaning out sewerage pipes or the like. My thanks to you for the memories revived.

Thanks for sharing this home movie. Very interesting shots of Melton Station. Is there any more footage of the Station and yard as Melton Model Railway Club have started to construct a HO model railway layout of the station area and any scenes photos or drawings will greatly help in accuracy of the layout.
