Meandering Molly
Великобритания
Добавлен 22 ноя 2010
"Meandering Molly" is a channel mostly about our adventures aboard Molly of Mylor, a Cornish Crabber 26. We are based on the Solent, but have travelled far and wide in the three seasons we have owned her. We've made many friends on our travels and hope to make many more - leave a comment if we met you in one of our journeys. I also enjoy scuba and other outdoor pursuits, so sometimes post videos about them too.

Using a leaf blower on a bee hive before extracting delicious Sussex honey #beekeeping

A video showing the extraction of honey from three boxes of comb from a garden beehive. The excluder, which is intended to clear the bees from the boxes to be removed from the hive, did not work. So, as a rather extreme measure, a leaf blower was used to clear the bees from the frames. It worked surprisingly well and the bees were not harmed by this process (though they were far from happy, as ...

@@bren8168 I didn’t allow an hour to get out of the car park
@erbster200 sucks to be you, if there is a que to get out and the road outside is busy, it takes longer to get out. 🤷🏼♂️ Also if you reverse bay park, it will be easier to get out of the bay when it's busy like that.
@erbster200 use a different car park next time. 🤷🏼♂️ Busy road, busy exit, busy car park. Can't blame the council for other people doing what you're also doing. Reversing into a bay will make getting out with traffic like this a lot easier.

Which mark is molly? Do you know the year she was built?
@@meep599 Molly is a Cornish Crabber 26, sail number 33 built 2015
@erbster200 is that MK III or V
@@meep599 I think you are confusing my Crabber 26 with the Crabber 24. There has only been one design of the CC26. The mark V CC24 looks somewhat similar to the CC26 having a similar cockpit but smaller cabin accommodation
@@erbster200 oh i see, yes I was curious as the different iterations of the 24 can vary a lot but the 26 looks solid
@ the mkV 24 is quite a different boat to the earlier versions. Elements of that hull were copied onto the CC26. We love Molly; I have sailed her in some quite challenging conditions and she is a very confidence-inspiring boat!
Having just stumbled across this channel I must say I really enjoyed the video. I love being on the water but sadly it’s far too infrequent, so spending time aboard with you on this trip was a real delight. Many thanks 🙏
Thank you RUclips for this recommendation (i.e. new to the channel). Great editing. Love the waving province of Zealand flag as a visual element.. Present day motorized inland shipping seems awfully close. Just wondering: do you guys carry AIS? Thx and Cheers, Jan.
Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the shipping is pretty close, so one has to keep a sharp look out (especially behind!). I fitted an AIS transducer for this trip; previously I had a receiver so I could see commercial vessels but I wanted to be sure they could see me too.
Great vlog, I particularly liked the close ups around 4 minutes, it gave a feel to the grace of your vessels.
This series across to NL is great 👍🏻

A beautiful sight to see again, its been so long starlings ❤🎉❤xxx
A gem. Seeing the gaffers in a place familiar to imagination from childhood reading of Secret Water is a treat.
@@MatthewFelgate-r4u thank you
Why no vang ?
@@squiddly-diddly it’s not really needed on a gaffer. The wooden boom is very stiff, so a vang (kicking strap) has no effect on boom shape. The main sheet pulls the boom down sufficiently on its own. When the wind is strong (but not so strong as to need a reef), because the main is large, it is helpful to let the boom lift a bit and dump a little power.
Absolutely delightful vid showing it is still possible to have a good time in the channel if you know what you're doing. Bon Voyage.

Watching from Nieuw Zeeland. Virtuoso display of long keel and long bowsprit close quarters maneuvers. This is the best inland waterway video I have ever watched. Stunningly good filmaking covering your wonderful gaff cutter flotilla.

Well done Nice crossing
Freedom at last. Living at natures pace. Superb. ❤
Good to know there are more people on their boat these days, going back in two days for another leg from Amsterdam to Zeeland
Fascinating, watching from NZ where we don't have the shipping traffic or the big tides. Having ambitions to do something similar in the future in your neck of the woods in a shallow gaff cutter with a decent spread of sail, this is educational on how to do it without drama.
@@MatthewFelgate-r4u glad you enjoyed it! I love tides - they make a big difference in small boat sailing
@@erbster200 powerhouse of the industrial revolution! We seldom get more than a knot here.
Those blocks and beachfronts on the coastline were unfortunately all developed after ww2 when the economy picked up and more people were able to afford holidays at sea and such.… by the time the government and the people realized that perhaps there is more than profit and that the original dune landscape is worthy of protection, most of it was already gone😢 as usual one step too late and no vision for the future…oh well
@@donaldvanvliet9039 thanks for the info. Same could be said of many coastlines.
@@erbster200 yeah, but unfortunately, belgium only has a very small coastline😂
@@donaldvanvliet9039 perhaps that’s part of the reason - everyone wants a holiday at the seaside. One of the great things about sailing is to be on the coast but get away from crowds
As a Belgian I can confidently say we have the ugliest coastline... in the world. Just leave it up to project developers to ruin anything for the sake of profit.

great video showing the complexity for crossing the channel, excellent work Sir.
@@boatbuilderPortishead thank you
Thank you for that.
Thanks for taking us along with you across the channel … how feasibly do you think we might do this in a CC19?
@@funkyfender1 well, it’s possible but the main benefit of a trailer sailor is not to spend days moving the boat, but to travel direct to the cruising ground. This was part of a 7-day voyage to join a rally. There were two cape cutters who took 1 day to travel and launched at the event location. Having said that, given the calm conditions we experienced, this would be possible in a Cape Cutter. One big concern of mine, as a small boat, was being seen by the large commercial vessels in the shipping channel- an AIS transmitter was quite a reassurance. I think you’d spend quite a bit of time motoring to get through the separation scheme
Excellent !!
Well done very enjoyable 👍👍

Can't you sail? If I want to see a motor yacht, I find a BRRRRR yacht video. This is quite disappointing.
He said several times that there's not much wind, but despite that still manages to sail as the wind picks up later. However, the video is more about the passage, not the actual sailing. Perhaps go check out a sailing school video instead if you need lessons. Once you're proficient you should find this video of more interest if planning such a crossing.
@@voornaam3191 I’m sorry you’re disappointed. I had an obligation to make best speed across the shipping separation scheme between large container vessels moving at 12kt.
