I assume you're paid to teach right or is it strictly voluntary? Also are there any particular groups you enjoy teaching the most or any groups you dislike? I've really never heard of anyone who teaches and takes classes at the same time, so this is a first. How often are there no gi aka non uniform days anyway and are the jackets pretty thick? Ours aren't but I know in judo the material is heavy and makes one sweat a lot which doesn't sound too appealing. On lots of them don't because they think its weird - what was that in reference to? I was asking how would the teenage years be awkward in the context of a TKD setting? When was the last time you did jiujitsu or grappled with friends on your mats? I'm surprised you referred to this as jiujtsu considering there's no really any ground moves. So what's a Burpy? It sounds catchy, and it seems many teens tend to do MMA over traditional martial arts.
And STILL
Got absolutely rag-dolled here, but we working on it. Progression, not perfection.
Awesome video! Your BJJ friend looks great. I’m not as qualified to speak on grappling, but from a basic standpoint, I’d suggest staying calmer and avoiding muscling through everything-that’ll just gas you out. When shooting for takedowns, focus on control and avoid shooting from too far away. Set them up properly by closing the distance first. Just like throwing wild punches leaves you exposed, losing your calm in grappling creates openings for your opponent. Control and precision are key in both striking and grappling. I’d love to see more of this
I am even less qualified, (as you can tell by the video 😅) but it was definitely tiring, but a different kind, unlike Taekwondo or boxing, where it is cardio based.
Taking a shit while watching just thought you should know 💪 asserting dominance in the comment section
👍💪😅
Oh you're an instructor at the TKD gym - what levels or demographics do you teach, kids or other teen boys or which? How do you enjoy teaching? Its good you are able to teach though as a first degree though TKD is very different from kick boxing and jiujitsu which seemingly many tend to gravitate towards now over traditional martial arts. Does TKD have any ground game aspects or do you also incorporate some judo / jiujitsu into the TKD curriculum also? Around here most martial arts places teach a hybrid style which almost always has some kind of grappling on the ground. I attend a private Catholic school myself and wrestling has been a thing each year. Are the mats not used in PE for anything? It'd be great to see more grappling content on your indoor home mat set up - I trust you and your friends do rough house quite a bit on it?
@@kristyg-redbelt9438 I can tell you have great interest in martial arts by your questions. I’m always happy to answer them. The age range is from 4-25, but the classes are divided by belts and then from there, age. Although we aren’t a traditional taekwondo school, we do focus on some of the old school material, such as stances. We teach how to escape different clinch positions and chokes. We don’t have throws in taekwondo, but our school implemented trips and some takedowns. The wrestling in PE sounds great, and of course my friends mess around a bit. 👍🙏
@burpyTKD I do enjoy martial arts so you are accurate on that front, and being one of the few girls in the jiujitsu class is a bit of a milestone. What age groups do you enjoy teaching anyway and specifically how good are you with teaching other teen boys, do they listen? I'd think a class mainly of 14 and 15 isn't always the most mature hah. On traditional material, I guess kata is a big thing of what you teach but why the implementation of chokes and positions? I trust its similar to jiujitsu? PE wrestling is fun I guess - what's the roughest thing done in your PE class and how long is PE mandatory for? Also messing around on your mat in the house must be fun, maybe record some grappling content aka rough housing?
I think from 7-14 is a good age group, because they aren't at the teenage years where everything is awkward. But I have many friends my age who do enjoy martial arts still. I think we take our teaching style from traditional martial arts, because listening and focus is something we highlight every class. Kata is karate, I believe, but we do something similar, called patterns or poomsae. The chokes and takedowns are for the self-defence aspect of our material, different from the taekwondo martial art aspect. We have done football, soccer, hockey, etc., and with boys, everything is rough. Our school only let us take P.E to Grade 10, so there is no more P.E for me. Yeah, we've wrestled and done Jiu Jitsu plenty of times. Thank you once again for your interest in all of this, much respect.
@burpyTKD How would the teenage years be awkward in the context of a TKD setting? I'd think everyone is into it hence they take the class and with a majority teen class in the adult group - does it resemble a glorified PE setting? I trust you enjoy teaching other teens though how often do you teach and is there a curriculum you follow or how do you come up with the lessons? Also how long have you been teaching for and what do you like best about it? At my jiujitsu gym, students don't teach. On PE - well do you miss it? Why is everything rough with boys? With the holidays now underway, it'd be great if you could record some wrestling or jiujitsu content on your mat set up which I trust your friends enjoy doing.
@@kristyg-redbelt9438 Yeah. So I’m taekwondo, we shout or yell every move, kick or punch, and lots of them don’t because they think it’s weird. I do enjoy teaching everyone, and the curriculum cycles through, with a kick, hand strike, and block every term, which is 2 months long. I guess most boys are competitive when it comes to sports. I’ve been teaching for over a year now, almost two.
@burpyTKD Thanks for the response Kyle - are you a senior or in tenth? I am in eleventh and why is it wrestling isn't part of PE do you think? For us its part of the curriculum every year and its a unit most of us look forward to. I am one of the few girls in my jiujitsu class outside of school. What belt are you at in TKD and why is it you're still doing that instead of branching out into MMA or jiujitsu? Seeing a grappling match would be great seeing as you have the mat space for it. I trust you like UFC?
@@kristyg-redbelt9438 I am in grade 12, And attend a private school, so the curriculum is a little different. Jiu jitsu classes sounds awesome, and I wish to learn more of the ground game too. I am only a first degree/dan black belt in taekwondo. I have boxing training once a week, and extra practice with my friends. Yes, UFC > boxing for me, and I would love to give MMA a shot, but I’m focusing on boxing and grappling separately before I put them together. But the reason went I’m still doing mainly taekwondo is because I’m actually an instructor there, so I teach and train.
Good edit
Thank you! 🙏
I love your Master and you both. Great school man.
Big love to you as well my friend
OUTRO GOES KINDA HARD NO?
Yuppers 👍
Nice punch!!
Thanks!!! 🙏
You guys are legends; you’re giving those kids something to look up to. ❤
Fr, the story behind it was kinda funny. We were waiting to start the Graduation Ceremony, where they get their new belts, but the instructor that was supposed to start it was in a phone call, and we were supposed to start already. So Instructor Hoon told me to put on his gloves and box right there...
Some tisp, white gloves hands up Black gloves try to counter more
Thanks man, simple and effective. Will do. 👍
Respectful sparring is key. I'm going back after a three year martial arts layoff. I was in a bully gym where the upper belt concussed us each Monday and Friday. I'm entering myay Thai this time. Remember to have fun on this heavy journey! 🙏 Tomorrow is day one back again.
Sounds great! You already know the mindset, and respect is always key. That's what Martial Arts should be. Have an amazing journey bro 😎

what ounce gloves do you guys use?
14 oz each 👍

@@nytco4531 Lol, that’s alright. Maybe you just too good for them. Train and sharpen your skills first, then maybe teach your friends 👍👍

Who win the match
I won, but by disqualification. I wouldn't want anyone else to win like that, and it is unfortunate that it happened this way. 😭

Another awesome video! I’m sparring today, too. When you slip, you lean back a bit too much, which can leave you off-balance and open to follow-up shots. Also, you sometimes go unnecessarily low when slipping (6:02-6:03, 6:13-6:19). Try keeping your movements tighter and more efficient. Besides that, keep working on the stuff I mentioned before. You’re looking better every day, champ!
Thank you! I will work on all of this. It will take time, but I hope to improve even more. What kind of sparring do you guys do?
@burpyTKDI do sparring that includes striking, kicks, punches, clinching, and sweeps-similar to kickboxing and Muay Thai. I haven’t been grappling much lately, but I’m hoping to start again after the Christmas break
Amazing. Is it an MMA gym? Or Muay Thai?
@burpyTKD Well, it used to be an MMA gym, but now they’ve split it into stand-up/Muay Thai and Jujutsu on separate days
Wow, good stuff
Is nobody gonna talk of this man's awesome taste in music? I mean this man only played BANGERS on the speaker.
@Mateo-y4l9d Thanks for the encouragement bro. Had to play non copyrighted music for RUclips lol
Every time you lead with your cross you coach punishes you for it because its so telegraphed. You might want to establish your jab first instead.
I see. Thanks for the feedback man! 🙏
Taekwondo without kicks? 🤨
For now. I recently injured my foot, and my coach's knee is busted up from training. Because of this, we thought it would be the best time to work on our boxing. 👍

When did we start wearing shoes on the mat I feel old now T-T
Since they went on sale lol. We've evolved 😅
I like what I’m seeing-you’re getting better! You’re moving a lot back and forth, but you could try cutting angles more and circling out to get to his side. From 5:07 to 5:12, I can see you’re trying to bait him into throwing so you can slip. The thing is, to slip effectively, you need to anticipate the strike, which means setting it up. Try circling to the outside of his lead hand to encourage him to throw the jab. Once he does, you can slip it more easily. Your feints and baits need to be subtle-just hint at doing something to see how he reacts. Then, establish a pattern to manipulate his response. That way, you can set up your counter or whatever else you’re planning to execute. When you’re standing still doing nothing, you risk getting pressured. If he lands a solid hit, it can catch you off guard, and you might end up eating a flurry of punches and turtling up-like at 3:44 to 3:51. You did a good job getting your guard up and blocking there, but afterward, when he was gassed, you didn’t capitalize on the opportunity. At that moment, you had the advantage-he had just burned his gas tank. That would’ve been a great time to apply pressure and turn the fight in your favor. Oh, and you could work on getting further in with those hooks-they’re nice, but they’re hitting his guard. Keep working hard, champ! You’re still making me proud, and you look awesome out there!. Love from Sweden ♥
Many thanks, friend. 🇸🇪 🇨🇦 ❤
his was nice! We recently had an 8th Dan Korean Taekwondo practitioner visit our gym. There’s so much complexity in Taekwondo kicks. :) Keep making content; I’ll always be watching!. oh and btw are you Canadian?
