From my American perspective the future of Europes welfare states are pretty clear they will need to become ever more limited and targeted as the number of workers supporting the people on them grows so taxs on workers will go up far faster than inflation, and this with hurt fertility even more and eventually either the populist nationalist right will win or immigrants that largly dont assimilate will start changing the culture and government policy to suit their needs and who know what thatbwill lead to. In addition Americans are getting sick of paying to provide security while most EU NATO nations spend ver inefficiently about 1/3 of their smaller gdp per capita on defense. So you will need to spend far more on defense at the same time aging happens and you dont have the worlds reserve currency to monitize it or have high enough GDP growth. The moral of the story is over the next 40 years Europes post WW2 and cold war boom will be long gone and all the welfare policies will be un attainable. Some mix of whats happened with Argentina or Japan will be the likly result
