Davey's Dash
Канада
Добавлен 8 мар 2017
As most of you already know, my channel used to be called "LeatherTramp Expeditions." Changes in my personal life and changes in the world we live in meant that changes needed to be made elsewhere. LeatherTramp Expeditions was really meant for one hitchhiking trip, a very, very long one. That trip never happened, but because the channel was already created, I stuck with it. Not being self-employed anymore means that I can't just go "Tramping" around like I used to, although my passion for the out-of-doors is as strong as it has always been. We will be doing the same stuff as always, but it is time to incorporate some other things as well!
So what is "Davey's Dash"?
Quite simply this...We all have a start date in life, known as our birthday. We all have an end date, though we know not when. The Dash that separates these dates, is our lives and what we do with them.
My name is Davey, and this is my Dash. Welcome to the channel, Your channel for fun and adventure in the out-of-doors

THE WORLD IN MY EYES TOUR Chapter 12: Mount Saraill to Lower Elk Lakes
Day 12 was dangerous. It was not my first time or 3rd, so I handled it better than most...but being hypothermic is a danger that can kill. Thanks to my camping neighbours Kevin and Amanda for helping me get my tent up, and untieing my hiking boots!

THE WORLD IN MY EYES TOUR Chapter 11: I Should Have Stayed in Bed, but Glad I Didn't.
Просмотров 6714 дней назад
Day 11 starts with waking up after the previous night's storm to a soaked sleeping bag, air mattress, and backpack. While these pieces of kit are hanging in the wind I find out I have hitched the wrong way to the trailhead by over 200 km!!! I hit the road one thumbs up and scored 3 awesome lifts to cover the distance in under 3 hours...then, it goes for shits again. #gdt #greatdividetrail

I wake up to the sound of a police loudspeaker so I book it back into the city center of Banff. After topping off batteries, etc. I started hitchhiking to be picked up by the same fellow who gave me a lift 2 days prior. Very cool! Find a place to camp (non-stealth) and in rolls a massive thunderstorm that I remember vividly today!

After getting pleasantly hammered in Saskatchewan Crossing and stealthing it up on the side of the road with a thru-hiker, it's re-supply day. I get one ride to the I.G.A. and spend way more time in the Irish pub than planned, so...we stealth it up inside the town limits of Banff, Alberta.

I absolutely love our friendship. I hope as much as my viewers we collaborate again!
Strangest storm I ever experienced was in Ontario. Clear sky above then from across the water a cloud blanket started rolling towards us and the only thing in it was lightning. No thunder, no rain, not even wind. Just a blanket of cloud n lightning. Most amazing thing weather wise camping in our tents.
Hey its Tim . I met you in waterford this past weekend cant wait to see the vid
It was awesome to meet you, but...I'm stacked with videos to upload. Subscribe and turn on the notifications, it'll be a bit, but I have great media for your entertainment in the meantime. Create a Great Day!

Thanks for the compliment, time, and comment! I appreciate you. Really cool to have created a friendship with an amazing woman. No, she hasn't started her channel yet, but I did a solo bikepacking trip where she showed up and took me hostage (next weeks footage) last weekend. Subscribe to not miss my adventures, and the announcement of Kayla's channel release.

BTW, I've been catching lung fulls of Canadian smoke in North Dakota this summer. So here we are well aware of how bad the Canadian wildfires are getting.
This is the footage from summer of '23. I'm sure you will agree...it was BAD! Thanks for the comment and support!
First comment!!!
Very useful video. How's the MSR filter holding up? Happy with it? Thank you Simon
Well...I stopped using that filter a looong time ago. Even with the cleanest water...clogged. The filter is just too small so I went back to the Katidyn Hiker Pro. It's a little larger, but doesn't add much more weight at all. I always try to buy better, but always go back to the Hiker Pro
@@daveysdash Many thanks for coming back to me. Super useful information. Simon
I will always make time for those that make time for me! I hope you Sub and hang with me friend, we will be able to keep a flow

Thanks again for your continued support! Create a Great Day!!!
I live in Grizzly country. I up here we travel the back country not "HIKE" like city-idiots the difference is 1 knows we are the game meat on the trail and carry firepower the other wears crocs and thinks bear bells and an IPHONE will save you from bears and hangs food up at night to help the scent carry for miles so when the bear comes in to camp the only food on the ground is you, smart. Bear safety facts are written by a softhandedbirdboned city-idiot that spent 1 weekend in the woods. #1 they tell you to play dead or act big and back away wrong! Always and i mean always push the bear be dominant quietly not yelling not waving hands like a retherd. Bears do not know English and only scared dyeing animals repeat sounds like hay bear, hay bear, hay bear> say it fast and in a panic it sounds just like a baby moose destress call hhheeemaa hhheeeemmaaaaaa hhheeeemmaaaa. Take good old city-idiot Timmy Tredwell that bear did not attack. Timmys bear just sat down and started eating his soft parts. Big difference between attack vs eating time. Last thoughts of every city-idiot getting pulled to pieces and swallowed is>> I WISH I HAD A GUN<< . Hiking in Canada is stupid. No guns in grizzly counrty fuk that is the dummest sh!tever. A couple just got killed "Hiking" In Canada unarmed and now they are bear sh!t . IPHONES and Spot didnt save them weird? ANY 1 reading this and is thinking about "Hiking" in Canada you need to hear Timmys last recording in full listen to what it sounds like to be ripped apart slowly. What weapons did they choose? A "frying pan" we will just say it was about as effective as bearbells, the spot, iphone and bearspray. PS Fish cops use bear spray as a marker like paint. It helps them identify the bear that killed a hiker>> Yep thats the 1 it has bearspray on it. Canada park department> DERP DERPITY DERP DERP
Are you autistic?
12:55 is when the video starts, prepare to be underwhelmed . waaaaaay to much blabbing
I truly appreciate you spending time with watching, commenting, and coming back to edit your comment. Hopefully my next video you'll get more of your money's worth. Create a Great Day!
A guy a I knew carried firework fountains and roman candles to scare off bears. Was that smart? Dunno
Ya i have used roman candles the type that whistle and bang and it works good for pissy moose to. But the fire danger is real. I had a friend spray a moose from 1 foot away with bear spray with no affect. It was a hard winter and moose get real pissy and hungry it didnt cough sneeze or shake its head its eyes got real big it licked its lips and ran over to the nearest tree and started feeding like we gave it free seasoning. After that i dont trust bear spray. That moose got 90% of the spray right up in the noise and smiled ''super effective" Here is something to think about . Bear spray has a 100% positive reviews. But how do you give a negative review WHEN UR DEAD? The last 4 bear vs human deaths the states game cops use the bear spray like paint they shoot the bears and say derp yep thats the bear that killed him it has pepper spray on it. HERE IS UR SIGN
HaHaHa! I dunno neither, but I do know the amount of time to pull, and light a roman candle...and wait for it to fire, well...Hey thanks for checking out my channel and commenting, it truly means a lot and I hope you decide to stick around!
That’s what we called a zip gun back in the day.
Apparently, we still do! Wow eh? Appreciate the comment and your hang time!!!
I have a bear banger too a 12 ga. Shot gun with 3" magnum 000 buck shot.
HeHeHe! I guess that would work in more ways than one! I appreciate your hang time and comment...hope you stick around!
Where did you get the 3inch buckshot rounds from. ?
Should be a private conversation as far as I am concerned. My platform is not the place for this conversation
@@daveysdash you are leading people to believe that you're device will stop a bear attack, it will not save their life. You give them a false sense of security and you could cause someone to die. I know bears. I is like shooting blanks in a battle for your life. You will parish.
@@schiaa7340 any reputable sporting goods store or self defense store
I've had one for quite a few years now; got it, flares and bangers, on a geology 'gig' in northern B.C. Grizzly country. Used it and spray. Spray is getting to near last choice... . With the bangers (and they are way louder than the video can demonstrate) just be careful not to scare one toward you by overshooting!
Absolutely correct my friend on how loud they are...caught me off guard. Thanks for the comment and view, Create a great day!
I had a bear totally ignore a2 bear bangers
Byrna
To be honest, if that happened to me...I'd be sh*tting it! I was surprised by how loud the Tru Flare bangers are, you might want to check them out. I appreciate your time my friend
I have seen a bear ignore a 30-06 to the ribs and charge like nothing was wrong with it. Loud sounds would have probably been more affective. Maybe i should have clapped my hands more and made dyeing animal sounds like haybear haybear haybear the same sounds a baby moose in distress makes. Bear safety facts are bullsh!t written by city-idiots with no real time with bears. PS bear do not speak english>>>>THE MORE YOU KNOW...........................
I have to say, perceptions are certainly based on experiences, not only for man...but animals as well. Thanks so much for your time and your thoughts!!!
Bear Bangers are considered firearms under Canadian law and are therefore illegal in the Rockies National Parks.
Thanks Marty, you have continuously supported my channel, and a huge thanks for this comment. This is actually surprising to me. I bought them off the shelf of an outdoor store, not required to give reason for the purchase, not required to show identification (like I did for my bear spray) I also mentioned to a park ranger that I was carrying bear spray and bangers, and nothing was said about them. Based on what I'm hearing from you, I am damn glad I didn't have to light one off and be in trouble! Granted, I don't do a lot of trip planning, or get to experience National Parks but once a year, but this is where I would be in the wrong for my ignorance...BUT...my first time with bangers and there were NO red flags, questions, etc! I huge thanks to you, Marty for opening conversation about this for myself and others to learn!
thats such a beautiful view. miss you davey
Canada is spectacular. Know that I miss you as well and your support on my channel means the world to me. Much love
There's an Angel in the clouds behind you. Look close you'll shape it out
What I know is...the Good Lord has watched over me more when I am in the backcountry than anywhere else
Hey Davey, live in the moment, dream of the future and remember the good things. Let the rest flow away.
Words to live by! Thanks for your support, my friend!

Rob, my man! Thanks for stopping on my channel and hanging out. It is very much appreciated!!!
We all love you at ONE88 Davey. Thank you for sharing your story. You are already forgiven please forgive yourself. 🙏 ❤
You've got a heart of gold my man! Enjoying watching your trip. You'll look back some day when you are old an grey with fondness for the grand adventure you had! 😃
Soooo glad you are enjoying my Dash! You're right, when I am old and spiking IV bags with whiskey in the old age home, these vids will probably come in handy! I can't tell you what it means that you are watching, and commenting. Thank you friend.
Nice video. Try to be a little more excited LOL. By the way, there's only one "L" in the lake's name. Michele Lakes was named in memory of Michele Coombs who at the age of 11 lost her life, July 6th, 1979. Her plaque is located up at the lake.
Thanks, Marty...I'll try! LMFAOOO!!! Obviously a collaboration with someone would be a benefit, but as that isn't possible for me, the internet will have to take me, or leave me for who I am. Thanks for the comment, friend...all the best on your hiking season
I thought you were done with the west?
This video series was filmed July/August of 2023. Since then I traveled to the East were I find myself now. That said I don't believe I could ever be done with the West. Create a Great Day!

Ah, wished we would have met! I'll be sure to check you out!!!
