24 Tomato Comparison - August 10th
Просмотров 46710 месяцев назад
This comparison shows which varieties are ripe by the 10th of August and compares size, shape, and color. We plant tomatoes between 10 May and Memorial Day in the spring. Boise weather doesn't freeze until 10 November. So we have plenty of time to ripen all varieties. My Boise Garden

    I used to buy flares by the case. It really didn't have any impact on my gopher problem. What worked for me is injecting oxygen and accetylene into the hole and igniting it. That kills everything in the hole system for a 20 to 30 foot radius.look up a device called a Rodent Blaster. They are pricey, so I made my own. Really works well and destroys the holes so they are used by the next gopher.

    These “Gopher Gasers” from Home Depot are a RIP off! If you really want to get rid of gophers…. Use a road flare! They are the same price ,they are available at ANY auto parts store, they burn for 15-30 min (these gopher gassers burn smoke for less than one min, and the flare is burning phosphorus AND sulfur.

    • @myboisegarden7469
      @myboisegarden7469 9 месяцев назад

      I am required by DOT to keep road flares on my truck. You're right. They burn much longer than the gopher gasser sticks. I will say that the standard gopher gasser may be more affective in newer shorter gopher tunnels. They will probably not be as affective in a well established, longer maze of tunnels. I also use my poison grain poke stick as an affective gopher elimination tool.

    you've got great looking plants and a very efficient watering system. just today we made some tomato sandwiches from our garden tomatoes. I planted a parthenocarpic variety this year called siletz. it's a determinate type with smaller size fruit, but lots in each cluster. I'm curious how your canby raspberry plants are doing. I have a few, but they aren't producing very well

    • @myboisegarden7469
      @myboisegarden7469 9 месяцев назад

      Hi guys. I grew siletz one year. Yes they were smaller but prolific and sturdy crop. Canby raspberries are know for their great production. That starts in the 3rd year. They are a July only floricane style raspberry and seem to take an extra year to get established. I removed my Canbys because I have too many plants and decided to keep the "ranch" Titan variety because of sentimental reasons. Thanks for checking in. It was so good to hear from you.

    BAD MISTAKE holding the gasser in your hand until it ignites. I put them in the hole immediately after lighting the fuse and then cover the hole with a plastic bucket. I've had one explode with enough force to blow a hole in the bottom of the bucket.

    3:36 This bit seems wrong... For this stage of development isn't it better to plant it lower in the pot and allow the main stem to put out more roots? Then on the final potting, plant the new much bigger rootball higher in the soil to encourage longer root production... Before finally planting out in the garden or final growing position.

    Curious how this worked out for you. From what I know, Schisandra are a huge, vining plant that can get up to 30 feet long, but it seems as though you're prepping for them to bush out. Is this a bush variety of some sort? Or did you end up needing to build structures/heavily prune to keep them under control?

      When you add more sand you have to also add more nutrition. We love using dairy compost. But yes, we don't get so many knobby potatoes after adding the sand and the wet dirt doesn't stick so much to our shoes.

      2023. I think the Suffolk Red are too sweet to juice but they are great to eat. My kids just juiced the Suffolk Red and the granddaughters love the sweet grape juice. I like the darker juice made by the Flame grapes and they just as delicious to eat fresh.

    • @myboisegarden7469
      @myboisegarden7469 9 месяцев назад

      Yes. No more gophers in this end of the garden. But this is a new gopher area. On the other end of the garden next to the neighbors fence and irrigation ditch where the gophers have longer and more established tunnels, I use poison grain at fresh mounds for more affective results.

      Hi, Trying to remember. Probably 5 years by now (2023). Suffolk Red and a super sweet variety that ripens here last couple of weeks in September. They are fast establishing and so sturdy to grow in Boise. I don't loose half of my starts each year to cold winter damage. They also grow straight up and make me feel good as a gardener because they look so nice out there. The Concord on the other hand do some vertical growing but seem to turn down more.
