MidiBot: Script hack for Logic & MainStage

This MidiFX Scripter hack combines my favorite features of DrumToy and MidiBot into one useful plug-in. These instances are all singles, but you can adjust one parameter in the code to add as many bot voices as you like to each instance. Useful for drum machine patches or other multi-ti layouts. I still have a few features to add but I'm getting close to releasing this into the wild.

Sunday's video slam: "Freedom Jazz Dance" more or less...
wow. A wave of emotion just ripped right through me when Mike came in with the tenor solo after Pat’s guitar. Still miss Mike so much. His EWI playing is so foundational to all the stuff people are trying to do with wind controllers still. The phrasing, expression, articulation, everything.
You're in NYC? What borough?
Wonderful behind-the-scenes footage!
I knew Carlos in high school. He was in a drummer in the marching band also and marched behind me. I remember him hanging around the band room and peeking in. Our band director said something along the lines of, "Come in already." A few months later there in was an official member of our tiny but mighty bands. If you are familiar with the notoriety of Eagle Rock High Jazz Band of the '70's (and later) you know Carlos was the greatest. We still miss you Carlos.
Wow-zah! Thanks, y'all for sharing this!
Always an honour to watch a master at work. Thank Robbie
Hallo liebe Herr Kilgore! Ich habe am 16.02.24 das Geld per PayPal für Midi Rotator überwiesen und bis heute nichts bekommen! Ich würde mich sehr freuen wenn Sie mein Problem lösen könnten! Danke im Voraus.
It’s interesting. I’m a big James Taylor fan and I like the song they’re agonizing about - Sweet Potato Pie. However I’ve always felt the arrangement wasn’t up to par from the first time I heard it. I think it’s the keyboards.
Its 2024 for me 😅
I want this lol
I like this , and the visualation !
I'd like to thank you for playing without distortion. This virtual capo is something that intrigues me most...if it is capable of several custom tunings that are selectable at will. The Alternate Tuning coupled the Pickups were tremendous. 👍👍
Hey Just curious Robby, Did you do the music/keyboards for Let The Music Play by Shannon on Emergency?
Yes. Good times!
Very cool Robby!
Hey Robby, I'd love to know how you've created these visuals. Really cool!!
Great hearing them working in the studio and cutting/recording sweet potato pie for the never die young album
ありがとうございます♪😭
She's one amazing lady!!!
This is where it starts before it's put on vinyl records back in the days. I love it because it takes me back home. Thanks for sharing your life and love in the music industry..
Fine tuning lots of work, thank you
RARE
Cool!
Is it possible to simply apply a probability to MIDI notes of a stream passing through it? Not all DAWs have ready access to note probability like Bitwig and Studio One has so looking for an easy solution... thanks
sadly not without coding a new update.
@@RobbyKilgore Understood! Thanks for the reply.
que buenoooo ! :)
Midibot is a broken scam. Why are you still collecting money for this? Even though it was only $5, I'm irate about how terrible your plugin is. You assigned it as an effect when it needs to be an instrument. There's zero options for output let alone any kind of input. Useless.
I Just got it... Like all the comments here I couldn't find any contact email (I expected to have one for a paid product, even if its 5$).. I also didn't realize that the product is discontinue, and the last update was 2.5years ago (i don't know if ill but it if I new). Its a cool little plugin (I'm using Cubase 11) - its very much missing a note decay feature , 32 step clock (why not go until 128note) and bug fix.. sometimes its just stop to work and I need to change the setting from single note to sustain to make it trigger my synths again. With some love and care this plugin can preform like Rhythmizer by futurephonics (Ableton only) , and be a great success :)
Great feel. Each part a distinct piece of a larger puzzle. I want more.
Definitely a cool patch. Super intrigued. On the hunt now…
Best song on the album.
Absolutely great
Muito legal vê o antes!!
..hey Robbie!..It’s Victor, Chieli’s buddy from the Unique Recording days, I met you when you were working with Steve Winwood..this is a very suave arrangement, I like the way you hear things man..I’m planning on doing a different kind of progressive recording project next year and I would like you to be involved if it would be possible..please reach me when it’s convenient so I can get back to you with more info..victor.jamz@gmail.com..please say hello to Maz for me!..stay safe and stay strong..New York July 10, 2021..
Is this where Billy Squier recorded his best?
14 years later, I am told by the developer...that this schema has been emulated and incorporated into the NDLR hardware device :)
Can you say more?
@@RobbyKilgore Hey Robby, I'm the support technician at Conductive Labs. We make a Polyphonic Hardware Arpeggiator called The NDLR. We made a Rotator style applet as an Easter Egg in the most recent firmware update. I'm working on learning how it works so that I write some documentation for it. If you want to talk more about it you can reach me via email at Support@conductivelabs.com -Jesse
Was that JP - Jimmy Pullis in the red sweater?
Who directed this shoot?
Carlos laying that sweet shuffle down in the beginning!
Randomly searched up “open tuning piano” on Google and this came up as a video result, it made me very happy :)
Ohhh.....Carlos was so good ! This reminds me of when I was a live sound engineer....chief engineer and the bands/orchestras used to often get into discussions over very minor points for ages...they just wanted it to be perfect. In the end I'd often pipe-up and shout "Okey Dokey, that sounds great and the Gig starts in one hour!....lets all have a drink and a cigarette and return ready!"
Very cool Robby!
This is doo doo butter
Did you know my mother Carol in Tucson, AZ. Did you play on the Big Bam Boom album?
Maybe/probably, and yes.
Just discovering this now...looks fun! Wondering if its Catalina compatible...?
If the host DAW you're using is, then this should be too.
@@RobbyKilgore It'd be Logic Pro 10.5.1, so yes.
wow, Sorry charlie! Did he grow up to like music?
After some reflection, I see the errors of my comments. My bad. Also - the earth is round. Right?
He's cool. He's 21 now, is an actor, and has a four album deal on Atlantic. So he's got his own collection going.
Did you ever buy and of them later on in life? What’s that Electric keyboard sounding riff? It’s amazing.
damn, hot playin' ! nice changes
yeah really nice, sounds quite familiar actually.
What a beautifully wistful gesture.
Hello Robby, good afternoon. first of all thank you for your answer. i progress a lot with midi rotation in max. i was just wandering one thing. : the intervals are always parallel? i mean if you play C2, you ll have the fifth above (7half steps) but if you play B2 will you have F or Fsharp? does it follow whatever scale you program or is it straight parallels? same question with rotating notes..... Parallel movements always or musical intervals respected? thank again for the information.
The rotator is made of the root you play, one parallel voice, and four voices which rotate to make up the third voice in the harmony. So for every single note you play in, you hear three notes played out. The root, the parallel voice, and one of the four rotating voices. By tuning each of the four rotating voices differently, you get a new voicing every time you retrigger the same note.
JAVIER PROD.MUSICAL see my original article with diagrams. robbykilgore.com/harmonic-expansionism/
Thanks again. I read all the information of your wen pages one month ago and really liked the small audio things. That is the main reason why i m trying to get something similar with max msp. I did many tries. Rotating thing work perfectly. I can assign different out midi channels and even create some kind of multiplexer that allow me to have more than 2 notes polyphony. Actually i m trying to get harmonized scale. If i play c, then d, then e, Instead of getting cmaj, dmaj, emaj, i m looking for cmaj, dmin, emin etc...depending on the initially preprogrammed scale or arpegio. And using keyswitches to change that initial scale and of course, consequent rotating notes.
HELLO ROBBY, I JUST BUILD A MIDI ROTATOR IN MAX. I WILL INCLUDE THE POSSIBILITY TO OUTPUT EACH VOICE IN A DIFFERENTMIDI CHANNEL . I REALLY LIKE THE MINI AUDIOS OF YOURS USING YOUR SYSTEM. REALLY INTERESTING. I NOTICED THAT YOU PLAY SEVERAL NOTES AT SAME TIME INSTEAD SAY BRECKER MONOPHONIC EWI. YOU PROGRAMMED YOUR SOFTWARE SO THAT EACH NOTE IS DIRECTED TO A DIFFERENT ROTATOR'? OR IS YOUR ROTATOR USES MORE THAN 4 ROTATING VOICES FOR MORE FLEXIBILITY'? I WILL TRY TO PROGRAM A RANDOM ROTATOR , INSTEAD FROM 1 TO 6 FOR EXAMPLE, IT WOULD RANDOMLY CHOOSE FROM 1 TO 6,,,,WHAT DO YOU THINK?
JAVIER PROD.MUSICAL the original version was in MAX. It spilled over into a second rotator if you played more than one note. My later Arduino and Plug-in versions treat each new note as a separate rotator. So polyphonic chords can have rotators students different rotations depending on what you’ve played before. So glad you’re inspired to play with the idea yourself. Have fun!!
