Are there any benefits to just changing the flywheel and gov removal only on the hemi version?

I don’t want to seem insensitive, but it seems to me at your age that you would read instructions thoroughly before doing anything I’m not trying to be mean or nothing but I’ve been around a few years and I’ve learned to use some common sense in foam applicants for anything very touchy stuff scratch build phone planes that fly beautiful don’t have too many crashes. Been doing this for about 40 years. I hope you enjoy your life and self. God bless you.

It’s cause you be kicking back too much

Having same issue after putting ARC Billet on my 212. I’ve got it manageable now but it still occasionally bites. ARC told me to set coil gap at least .050 instead of the .030 minimum. And also told me to set my exhaust valve lash to as close to zero as possible when cold. This allows the compression release to open just a little further to prevent kickback. Still does it occasionally but I can usually get it started in a 4 pulls. Upgrading main jet to .038 helped a little as well and I’ve been told to change pilot jet .022 for easier starting and better idle. I’ve got one on order now. I’m not sure why some people have this happen when installing the ARC flywheel but most are able to leave their valve lash alone and truck on. Might be some slight machining variations with either ARC or predator and the slightest degree off makes it kick.

Having watched this film a number of times and familiar with this monologue it has suddenly dawned on me that it's delivery is intended to Jeff Bridges character Jack and that Robin Williams character, Perry, is indeed the fool offering Jack the Holy Grail to redeem himself. Think about both thier journeys in the film and what each of thier characters represent. Perfect 👌

A recent comment brought my attention to this vid, which I posted 5 years ago. I've stored it without riding it for most of that time, but have taken out and terrorized my neighborhood streets a handful of times over the last two summers. I installed front shocks last year. Anyway, this vid had it occur to me that the issue has disappeared. I got some good feedback, including several comments that they resolved theirs with proper valve lash adjustment. I adjusted the lash a few times, but if memory serves, it only reduced the kickback from a rating of "brutal" to "there, but no threat of arm removal". However, it's now gone. I had good reason to use that glove in the vid, so it wouldn't take any skin off during the kickback. No glove, no kickback at all anymore. So my first bet would be that the valve lash has settled itself to that which nixs the issue. I fired it up a couple weeks ago for the first time since last summer and I think it started on the 2nd pull...a pleasant surprise. And man...I forgot how much power its got. The billet rod, upgraded cam, billet flywheel, Mikuni carb and rev limiter delete has that thing get up to 50 mph lickity split (probably 6K rpms, feels like it could do 80 if I put the appropriate sprocket on. But, I was also reminded how small it is. It's a bit sketch taking it up to even 50 on my streets (not winning any smooth, flat, bump, pothole and crack-free awards). The only mod I'd like to make anytime soon would be a higher rpm centrifugal clutch. The one on it engages what feels like <2K rpms. So low that after it engages, once I give it some serious throttle, I can feel it pulling hard, but because the rpms are so low, can feel each combustion of the piston. Anyone who wants to chime in on a popular higher stall clutch, would be fine. I would want it to be too high...think I remember some that were like 3,500 rpm. I'm thinking 2,500 to 2,800 maybe?

The dirt you saw in the oil is left over from the casting process. Always a good idea to run cheap oil for the break in and change it right after to get that stuff out

I had the same issue with my 212 non hemi. (Billet flywheel, connecting rod, 22mm carb, 265 cam, 22lb springs, and fuel pump) from what ive been reading everyone said valve lash. Not in all cases is it VALVE LASH. My issue was the fly wheel was to advanced causing the motor to fire way to early= causing kick back. I put the stock flywheel back on and problem solved. I’m going to test it with a 12 degree timing key Put backwards, making my timing 20 degree not 32.

Such a deep story. Such an honest performance.
