Family Fun on the Payette River

My brother and two of his kids and I were supposed to raft the Upper Salt River in Arizona. I flew to Phoenix and they drove. When I arrived the river forecast had changed and the river was going to be really high so for safety concerns we decided not to run the river. Since we were in Arizona we threw together a few days of fun hiking and exploring.

Just a quick one nighter to Lake Aloha as an introduction to backpacking for my niece and nephew and my brother came along too. Weather was great, lake level was good. There were literally millions of mosquitos but with a little bug spray they weren’t overly aggressive and I ended with only one bite from the trip. Enjoyed some thunderstorms coming back.

A day hike to Minaret Lake in the Mammoth Area in California. The hike ended up being about 15 miles round trip. We estimated the water to be about 41 degrees.

The full Narrows Hike during low water, about 24 cfs and 110 degrees in Zion Canyon.

My brother and I wanted to get on a river but almost everything is too low this year, so we decided last minute to run the South Fork American Gorge section R2.
