Some challenging PNW climb up to a ridge in the clouds

Riding my 2021 KTM 300 xc-w with the TSP medium comp head and an ECU reflash. I did this mod when I did my first top end rebuild. It is amazing. The bike has so much more torque on the low end with more snap and power on the top end too. Makes this hard stuff way easier to ride.

Climbing up to a ridge in Washington State. When one doesn't know what is around the switchback one has to be prepared for anything. I added the TSP medium comp head to my 2021 300 xc-w and it made the bike incredible in this type of stuff.

Steep hill climb and back down on my 300 xc-w

The last section of a hill climb we did in Washington state. I struggled mightily on this last time I tried. Taking 3 attempts to make it but not with out stopping and jacking around with the bike. Having the TSP medium comp head is a difference maker.
Riding up into the sunset and down in the dark 300 xc-w

Went for an evening rip with my friend David. This was my first ride on my 300 xc-w after doing a top end rebuild and upgrading the head to the TSP medium competition head. What a difference it made. It was like I was riding a completely new/different bike. So much more power down low and snap too. I was amazed at the difference

Wanna hold hands, NO! 😂❤
gotta love the pre-teen attitude
we will hit this spot next week 😁 perfect to watch this video before riding it. keep safe bro
Thanks man.. Its a hard, but fun, trail. Hope you get the perfect conditions. Safety first :)
Nice work guys, It was great chatting with you up on top of Jolly there!
I love the joy you get out these rides. It’s so evident when you hit the crest. The view is breathtaking for sure. Thanks for the continued share.
Thank you!! I appreciate your appreciation :)
Fantastic shots man 🔥, this was great episode!
Thank you so much. I appreciate your comment and enthusiasm for my ride vidoes.
Where did you guys stage?
Thats the parking lot up by Lake Cle Elum.
If you don’t mind my asking what size KTM are you on, I had a 2004 EXC 200 KTM a very fun bike at Tahuya know all those trails well I used ride and race the Enduro series there very fun and I miss riding so badly but medical reasons retired me.😢
I ride a 21 300 xc-w. when I did my first top end i installed the TSP medium comp head. made the bike more like a 350.
That map animation is a nice feature! I don’t even know what it would be like riding somewhere with sections of dirt between the rocks..
Where do you ride? Some good dirt all over Washington state
i know its not trail or bike related but do you mind if you share to me what kind of car you have and how it is using hitch carrier.
Sure, I'm driving a 2020 KIA sorrento. I had an aftermarket hitch installed with a 750 pound hitch weight. I am using the harbor freight hitch carrier.
Bounced like a bounce house
Not sure if you’ll see this comment- but where did you get the camo forend and stock? Been using an all black 11-87 special purpose and can’t find camo swaps anywhere.
Its my buddy's gun so not sure TBH
Did you finish?
No, mechanical failure at route mile 327

and you can always mute the audio :) But thanks for watching and commenting
nice... I came down from between Vegas and Glamis to chase a moto again... all looked very familiar!
awesome!! Hope your chase went well. Thats awesome you live close to Glamis. My first time seeing it. Looks like a fun place to ride. As did the entire Baja peninsula :)
are you guys riding just weekend?
generally just Saturdays
@@mofekka haha so hard to find someone riding weekdays 😅

Great capture!
great riding! :) I want to try again
what a ride sir 😁 can I go with you next time sir?
Even your bike sounded tired.
it was actually running a teensy bit rough in the low RPMs. not sure why.
You should sell that bike...you're not a good rider.
lol
Where is this at? Great riding!
Thanks Walker vally ORV
Those of you who think that aint steep, it is. If you walk your bike your seat will be higher than your head. Plus theres a section of rock so the guys here were doing pretty well. This is one hill where once you start down youre committed to finishing the hill. Also theres a cougar roaming around that area so walking your bike down that might not be safe. 😊
I live about 3 miles from there and the first time I went down it in the eighties my friend Kevin Bise who lives very nearby on the mountain taught me how to go down the hill. Kevins skill level is way up there. He's won many desert races 1st overall. Kevin told me to put my husky in 3rd gear and accelerate all the way down so the front wheel wouldn't knife into the sand. I did it but almost broke an ankle because the path went next to a rock outcropping and I couldn't slow down😂 it was cool that it worked though.
Yeah, I've found a little speed is almost always better. Downhill it HAS to be managed tho, depending on runout. If the runout is long send it. If there is a downhill switch back at the bottom or any turns on a single track speed control is imperative. Open, sand hill, long run out, send it. Riding in soft sand I've found getting the front tire up and out of the sand with speed is key, even if downhill. I generally lock my rear some and modulate speed with my front brake on hills. This hill was the steepest I think I've ever been down in the 3 years I've been riding. ruclips.net/video/nbCN4NqBR5M/видео.html
Looks like a nice ride. 😂
Sure looks like mount Rainer
Nailed it!
Man that trail is unforgiving.
yes.. a serious challenge. fun tho. I wish I could have breathed when I rode it.
😄 P r o m o S M.
Not sure what this means?
Sweet😊
Gorgeous!
Should’ve never had clutch in. Momentum roll this kinda section. Defiantly go faster. Lol. Good times
Its not evident by the video. but this is a downhill section with a 2 foot. drop off. The plan was to get my weight back and roll over it. fail. If going faster still gotta have the weight back. Perhaps going faster over it is doable. But given the 2 foot dropoff, intimidation factor is there. I've gone over it successfully slower.
Looks like Idaho. Beautiful trails. Glad you made it out okay. I’ve been there fatigued and it’s amazing what we humans can overcome with strong wills.
Thanks Mike!! Fall is an amazing time to ride. This is a great trail, not for the faint of heart for sure. I was tested on this ride and certainly had to dig very deep to get out. Thanks for watching!
@@mofekka will you ride that trail ever again?
@@mikerasmussen7367 Yes.. definitely. It was an amazing trail and connects to more amazing trails. and I need to redo it for the sake of not letting it win :D :D. Its a challenge and I want to ride it while being able to breath properly. :)
Where’s this?
Washington State
Back to the keyboard, warrior!!
Don't stop until the wheels come off!!
You should try going faster….
Actually. that section is a bit steeper than it looks going downhill and the stepdown was a couple feet down.. I either needed to go a bit slower and/or get my weight back. Ive done that line before no problem.. slower. Had a bit too much speed on this attempt and too much weight forward.
on second thought you might be right.
Listen, if you can’t play safely with your toy, I’m going to have to take it away!😛
lol, sometimes these things happen. "Almost a hurt-self moment" ;)
Jesus man, how long have you had that bike...and you still can't ride it?
lol yeah.. I need to sell it and get a quad
You’re a brave man for taking your bike through there. I know I’d be shitting my shorts.
Thanks. I knew ahead of time there would be some streep drop offs. I didn't consider off-camber loose rocks. however, I learned to totally block it. 100% this really helped me not have anxiety about the exposure.
Thanks for sharing. I recommend you entertain installing a Rekluse clutch. Lots of debate on the subject but you wouldn't have stalled bike one time during that ride. Its seriously like cheating but makes it so much more fun (for me)
I have a couple buddies who ride with them. Yeah. I know it would help in not killing my bike. I was riding super poorly this day along with a bent clutch lever which caused me to kill the bike more. Extreme fatigue also was a factor. So lots of reasons.. outside of needing to ride better. Thanks for watching and much appreciate the comment and suggestion.
@@mofekka I forgot to mention that was some super sketchy single track!!! I am by no means a expert rider but have ridden my share of terrain. I might have kissed the ground after exiting that trail LOL!! Cheating death and living to tell about it is awesome! Thanks again for posting the video. I got some good arm-chair entertainment sitting here in ultra flat northern Indiana.
@@barrymyers3987 sure you man.. you're much welcome. Come out here and ride. Some amazing stuff in WA state.

@@mofekka I really felt for you on this ride. I had a similar experience riding sick with bronchitis. I didn’t know I was sick. I couldn’t get enough air. Search and rescue had to get me out. I had to walk for almost two hours to get out. We finally came to a fire road where I was given oxygen. Also my bike didn’t have a starter. I had to kick start every time. your video brought back a lot of memories.
@@gillhalford8228 Wow.. yeah.. I was close to this. I think had the snow been deeper.. might have had to call a heli. Not sure.. but I certainly couldn't ride. Gotta have air. its crazy how badly the muscles perform when not oxygenated properly.

yes
Little tip: let off the throttle.
I'm wearing the cam :) but.. along that same line..... 2nd tip. pull in the clutch :)

I love the narration, breaking down what’s happening for us. Good addition. Fun watch even if you did concern me at several points…can’t wait for more!
Thanks, I felt adding in after the fact narration would help explain the struggle more than the struggle explained the struggle, because the struggle doesn't really explain the struggle outside of the obvious fact I struggled. :D :D
@@mofekka I’m struggling to understand how you struggled through the explanation of the struggle but I’m glad you struggle on! ✊🏽

Wow brother glad you managed to get out, asthma is no joke. Love the f bombs. The 2 fellas I took out on our milder technical single track in Calabogie went home totally bagged and they only dropped the bikes a few times.
Thanks man. It was dicey but I put my mind in what I call Navy Seal mode. After watching those guys do hell week on a tv show I realize there is another level of effort we can get to. I was close to that. I was fortunate to come away with only 4-5 small bruises and no pain, except for some overall soreness. It was an amazing ride and I'm glad for the experience. Will make me a better rider for sure.
@@mofekka I have giant contusion and hematoma on my leg/hip from a failed attempt on a “he’s friggin nuts said my buddy” hill climb yesterday.
