Nacra sailing blast!
Просмотров 20 тыс.12 лет назад
Rob and I take a Nacra 4.5 for a sail at the Port Douglas Sailing Club. After a week of full cloud and 25 knts the wind dropped a little, while the low tide gave us sheltered water (if muddy) - perfect conditions to learn what this boat can do. Music - Fangarama, by The Link (again)

    ...and the dreams begin..I launched my own version of a 40ft wharram( called Karakia) just up the inlet from there 7 yrs ago and sailed her down to the Whitsundays after a 3.5 yr rebuild at the mozzie swamp of a boatyard behind the sailing club

    Couldn't figure out why your 5.2 was without a bar between the cross pieces and a boom. Also, I was intrigued with the strapless connections between the cross pieces and the hulls. When I noticed that the dagger boards were missing, I realized it was a 4.5. Never saw one before. Nice boat. Hey, why didn't you pick up the kite board?

      So great not having to worry about the boom! There is a very brief shot of a SUP board guy who had picked up the lost kite board and was on his way to return it. We just told the kite guy it was on its way back to him,

    I had a 5.8NA. My jib leads were along the edges of the tramp. This setup you have is much more convenient when it's not blowing like mad and you're not out on the wire. I sure do miss that boat.

  • @Shaker4x4

    My first and only Cat was a Capercat. I learn't to sail at Runaway Bay Sailing School when I was very young, and now, even at middle age, I miss it when I sold it to move to the country. The Dams are usually too narrow, or are in a valley, and wind speratic/turbulent for sailing. *This design I've had my eye on for a long time, as it's a great boat for shallow waters, stable, and boyant hull, and simplicity over-all. Second hand ones rarely pop up, and I hope one day I can save up and do it all again!!! I hope they never give up on the 4.5 Sports manufactering, it's got to be a classic run of a family sailer! For now I can dream.

    Cool video, like brimestone33, it would me nice to know how long it takes to put together. I could see the tide came in but that could be a couple hours or 10.

    • @cosmo257
      @cosmo257 10 лет назад

      Well it took about 5 hrs on this day - but there was lots of talking and some sitting around. Could be a lot faster if everyone knew what to do! (Including me)

    • @cosmo257
      @cosmo257 10 лет назад

      for brimstone33; I couldn't do it by myself, might be possible though. Realistically, people don't even launch 18ft surfcats by themselves Tiki21 is much cheaper and faster to build, needs a smaller car to tow, is easier to handle beaching and you will spend more time sailing. Tiki 26 feels about twice as big I think. Torqeedo has a longer shaft than you expect - the bottom of the prop (huge) here is level with the deepest part of the hulls, transom does need a little tweaking. Has great thrust going into the wind going happily into 20knts with 1.5m chop without cavitating, which is a big safety advantage over a petrol motor where cavitation causes motor to be useless in a sea. Had lots of problems with battery/repairs though, its a v long way from Germany here!

    Nice vid, haven't seen anything else showing this. -How long does assembly take? -Is it possible for one person only? -If it takes more than one to assemble, what might be advantageous in the Tiki 21 over the 26? -Your Torqueedo seems to be barely in the water. Any problems with it? Is a modified motor mount in order? Thanks for the vid.
