Much appreciated! This pump is an aquasurge, which is an energy-=efficient pump and will cost around $15-25/month to operate. We usually have our pondless waterfalls shut off at midnight and turn on at 6am, so they're not running 24 hrs and consuming unnecessary power. Here in Minnesota, we only operate the waterfalls from April to November so ~6 months = $120 per year.

Thank you very much! The reservoir consists of 5 small aquablox (17 gallons of storage each) + the pump vault which gives us about 100 gallons of water storage. Our pump is an Aquasurge 4,000-8,000 gph pump with a 2" plumbing line. The 4-8k pump allows you to run it anywhere between 4,000 and 8,000 gph depending on what speed you set it to. Aquascape has a mobile app you can adjust everything with right from your phone.

@@Isa-ld3zg Aquascape has a 100 gallon single unit called the aquabasin 45 - perfectly fine to use that instead of 5 aquablox.

Thanks! It freezes here in MN, so it's routine to remove the pump in the fall. We actually want water to stay in the basin to freeze and turn into a block of ice to resist heaving. But yes, a pump can be dropped into the basin to pump out the water, which is what's involved as part of our spring cleaning. It's good to start each spring with fresh water.

It's fabric, not plastic. If you're referring to the pavers as cement, it's the wide joints between the bricks that allows water to permeate through it. Did you not watch the full video to see the water disappear?

Like anything, it's easy once you get the hang of it. Just requires a lot of labor and more tools than you'd think!

We do too. It was our favorite project in '23.

It's called geogrid, Stone goes on top of it to secure the wall better.

Bi-directional geogrid. On retaining walls higher than 3' tall we will install this between the layers of block. It reinforces the wall and the load of the soil/drainage rock behind it. It's basically just an added measure of overall strength.

And put a stair edge behind those blocks before you backfill them, those things are crooked as all hell

These blocks matched other retaining walls on the property.

Best thing about stone, compared to other timbers or concrete materials, this will last forever!

It's all done with the chisel. Keep your initial chisel line straight and you should have success with a uniform break. The key is to chisel on both sides of the block before you try to break through.

You can make a great foundation with concrete for your flagstone, yes. But you wouldn't lay any fine ground gravel. In that case you'd want to mortar the flagstone to the concrete slab. We live in Minnesota with a heavy freeze/thaw climate and concrete cracks easily. This is our preferred method for longevity and easy repair in the future.

@@DrawnbyNatureLandscaping I live in northeast Ohio and have heavy freeze / thaw cycles as well. We will be putting down some sort of slate / flagstone it’s 12x24 and ranges in thickness from 1/2” to 1”. We were recommended a base of 3/4” to fine and a bedding of sand topping mix (quikrete) laid dry and misted before putting down pavers . Would you recommend something different ? Please help . Thanks so much Edit: to add I have well draining sandy soil next to my house where it will be laid

@G T for flagstone or slate that is thin, yes you need to use some sort of mortaring method. I'd be in favor of pouring a 4" concrete slab and then adhering the stone to that. The problem with 3/4 minus is that it's going to shift and will break the bond with concrete.

@@shaymoose17 thanks for the reply . What would be the worse that could happen if I laid it like in the video with no fine. 3/4 base no fine , and then the 1/4 chip (hpb) and hand leveled each piece so that each paver was flush while maintaining grade of course

@G T you're probably ok with that. My only fear is how thin your stone is and it not seating into your bedding layer with enough force. The plus about using the spec you were given about laying it on a mortar bed is that it's more solid and will bond the surrounding pieces.

We understand that rule and try to stick to it when it makes sense. Even the manufacturer's recommended patterns have tons of patterns with 4 corners. Plus, with poly sand, edging restraint, and 8" base installation this patio isn't shifting. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@DrawnbyNatureLandscaping yes, some patterns have 4 corners in them, im talking about random pattern which is what you laid. Also, every pattern will be better than another with one being the best and most solid. Just food for thought, besides that, nice work ;)
