Great video, added to the list of must visit!
Great video
Thank you, I appreciate the comment!
Great video. Last time I ws in McMinnville, was in the late nineties were none of this was built yet, but I was there for an interview to fly DC8s for Evergreen. A bit of a drive from Portland, but worth it. First and last time time in the Northwest US. Nice area. May be I'll go visit in the near future.
Thanks for the comment. The Evergreen museums are totally worth a trip to see! Given the huge growth in the Willamette Valley region's wine industry in the last few decades, it could easily be combined with a stops at a number of vineyards. Lot's of really nice tasting rooms and experiences to be had very close by.
Shame, shame. The aircraft is called the Hercules, just the Hercules, and nothing but the Hercules. Howard is rolling over in his grave. Do your research before you make a video honoring an aircraft designed by a man who hated a nickname you put in the thumbnail of said video. Avgeeks take this sort of thing personally. Not a great idea to alienate your core audience.
On a purely practical note, if I only referred to it as you suggest, then the vast majority of search results returned would be for a Lockheed C-130 Hercules, about which most people are not very curious. I did my research, hence the inclusion of the term "H-4 Hercules" in the video and description. But if striking the moniker "Spruce Goose" from pop culture and aviation is important to you, I'd encourage you to reach out to the Evergreen Museum and its official guides first, since in their literature and tours it is typically referred to as the Spruce Goose. In addition, they would need to fix the plaque outside the plane awarding landmark status by the Society of Mechanical Engineers uses the term Spruce Goose, but not Hercules. readtheplaque.com/plaque/howard-hughes-flying-boat-the-spruce-goose#gsc.tab=0 So at the risk of alienating both purist Avgeeks and dead Howard Hughes, most people on Earth (and RUclips) know this plane by its nickname, so anyone producing a video about this aircraft would be foolish not to include it.
@@GlobeDecker You are not wrong, I'm just a purist, and Howard is a hero of mine.
Wow! -your site came up algorithmically at RUclips home. Great video. I had the good fortune of visiting the SP-G in Long Beach during her tenure. The irony of fate; after Hughes’ death the Smithsonian had considered cutting her up and putting its pieces on display. Aviation enthusiasts’ PROTESTS were overwhelmingly LOUD and negative. she was then acquired by Disney who later had to close the exhibit as it also was a financial tourist attraction loss. Then, new owners (Aero Club of Southern California) bought it, putting it back on display --- they also became behind in their payments, as well as having contractual issues with the city of Long Beach… She then went up for auction --- YIKES Thankfully Delford Smith bid on the aircraft in 1992, and bought her for $500,000 USD. It was (yes) then disassembled and taken by ship and truck to its amazing new permanent home in McMinnville!!!! - The museum's display is superb. PS: YES it was indeed the Hercules - but was named by many as the Spruce Goose during its construction in 1947, a name disliked by the designer and its builders, but that name has universally stuck ever since going on 76 years now. Had the museum decided to advertise this aircraft as the Experimental Hercules, they would probably lose 90% of their yearly visitors. Aircrafts are sometimes known by their nicknames this one is world-wide famous as The Spruce Goose.
Thanks for all the details! Our guide mentioned about 50% of that, but never heard the part about the Smithsonian and cutting it up, crazy! One additional thing the guide mentioned it by the time all the transport costs were added up, it was over $60 million that was spent moving it from Long Beach and getting re-assembled at Evergreen! I appreciate your comment!
Awesome. I have well heard of it, but I have never seen inside this before.
Glad you enjoyed. It's well worth the upcharge to go inside.
ITS CALLED THE HERCULES!!!!!

Surprised they pickef Toronto. MONTREAL hosts the race,,,
I had the same thought. My guess is that it came down to the availability of a suitably large temporary exhibition space. The Toronto metro area is about two million people larger than Montreal so I guess they figured that would also equal more ticket sales.
If you have to stay in a hotel i would stay in clagary or cocran and drive in . Banff and canmore that i would promote 4 years ago. I dont know how a falmley can afford. so we stay there and drive the 1.2 hours in. Forget norcway .Do the rest!!

Thank you !!!! great video! very helpful. I'm going this March. Looks amazing! never been. Very much looking forward to our trip. I've skied almost all of Colorado and Utah. And I'm Stoked!
Thanks for the comment! Have an amazing time, given the epic snowfall so far this year, they should have a HUGE base by March!
You did not mention at all the most obvious way of saving money: you dont have to go to Zermatt in order to use the Zermatt Ski Region. You can stay at the italian side in Cervino, where the costs of accomondation, food and transport are far cheaper than in Switzerland. You will still have the same views, the same slopes, you will just go up the mountain from the other side. The thing is, there is no real "budget friendly" way of doing basically anything in Switzerland Even flying into Milan is usually much cheaper than to Zurich/Geneva.
True, pretty much everything on the Cervinia side in Italy is definitely cheaper! But from my limited experience, it doesn't have the historic and unique "ski village charm" of Zermatt. Although with the right lift pass you can ride the exact same slopes, I did not feel they were entirely equivalent experiences. Thanks for your comment!
Hi there! I am planning a trip to Valle Nevado next august. I live in Colorado and am quite used to driving in snow on mountains but researching online has me a bit scared to rent a car for the drive up. What are your thoughts? Any other input or suggestions would be appreciated!
I got very lucky with the driving conditions in that there hadn't been any new show in over a week and the roads were almost 100% dry with no checkpoints for chains open. The road is no joke, but not unsafe and as a Colorado driver, you'd likely have no problems. The only issue would be if they got a serious snow event and chains were required, then you'd likely have to buy a set in Santiago, or just hedge your bets and bring some in your luggage. So...it's kind of just the luck of the draw on the weather. Of course the least stressful transport would be just to arrange a shuttle. But be sure to arrange your return journey in advance, you're not going to find any Ubers up there! If you are staying in a self catering Airbnb, be sure to buy all your food & booze before heading up the mountain, it's ridiculously expensive up on mountain!
@ Thank you for the response! I’ll think it over for sure but will definitely get chains if I decide to drive up. I have also heard about one way traffic- that is only applicable on weekends correct if we wanted to drive down on a weekday morning? Really appreciate your help!
@@rachelek4658 Glad to be of help! I drove to and from on weekdays so had two way traffic up and down. But what you've heard is true about the one way traffic on weekends. If I remember correctly, I think the Valle Nevado website has a live guide to that on it's mountain report while in season. www.vallenevado.com/en/mountain-report/ In daytime hours it's up only in the morning and down only in afternoons but I can't remember the precise hours of the timing.

Really great video, watched the Montreal video as well. I would love to go to the Montreal GP as my first F1 event as it's in my home country, BUT the hotel prices are WILD. Any recommendations?
I got an Airbnb for the Montreal 2024 weekend, of course the price was high, but I reserved it only about 4 months before. However the day the F1 calendar was announced for the 2025 season (more than a year before the next race) I reserved another Airbnb with free cancellation and it was very reasonable. That is the key, reserve your accommodations (hopefully with free cancellation) the moment the next year's race calendar is revealed, before they have a chance to jack up the price. This way you'll have a low price locked in, and the option to free cancel if you don't go.
In the scene where the dog's run through the living room, into the kitchen and out the kitchen exit door, to the left of the kitchen exit door is a red and black vertical cylinder looking thing hanging on the wall between the refrigerator and the exit door. There is a green wringer washing machine to the right of the kitchen exit door. I'm trying to figure out what that red and black cylinder looking thing is.
I never noticed that! It looks a lot like a growth marking chart that many families had to track their children's height over the years. We had something similar in the 1970's. The layout of the kitchen in the actual house was a bit different than the one in the film, since any scenes that didn't directly show outdoor views were filmed in a studio sound stage instead of the cramped house. I didn't see that object (chart?) in the House From A Christmas Story.
Thank you for the excellent guide! Looking forward to visiting for snowboarding sometime soon!
I'm trying to figure out what the black and red vertical cylinder thing hanging on the inside wall beside the door is in the movie. 🤔
I'm not sure what you're referring to? I didn't see it in the leg lamp delivery shots. What scene is it in?
@@GlobeDeckeryou can see it when the father is peering into the kitchen when the dogs run through the house and are going out the back door. It's hanging on the wall on the left side of the kitchen exit door. The green washing machine is on the right side of the door. It's to the right of the refrigerator but to the left of the door. So, Moana is a Chilian❤❤
Actually, since Moana was set about 2,000 years ago, during the "Long Pause" in Polynesian history, she wouldn't be Chilean. Easter Island/Rapa Nui only became part of Chile in 1888. 😄

Absolutely one of the best Zermatt videos I have seen! Thank you. I am used to skiing w/family in North America/Rockies and first time in Europe/Zermatt. Are they much harder runs? Thank you
@@tromero527 Thanks, really appreciate the comment! No the runs in Zermatt are not harder, but they can be a LOT longer. Just remember the slightly different classification system, and be aware that when you’re “off piste” you’re pretty much on your own.
I have stayed more than a few nights here. There are also some outdoor night activities. The hotel expensive restaurant service is sub par. You made the right choice for dining.
You're absolutely right, I totally forgot to include the tobagganing and other hotel organized evening activities after the skiing has shut down.
what’s the best way to get there without a car?
It's pretty far to Uber, but there's a number of paid airport shuttle van services to Banff from Calgary Airport. Once you are in Banff there's a free shuttle to the ski areas. www.skibig3.com/ski/ski-shuttle/
When is the boat month to snowboard in chile?😊
Valle Nevado typically opens in late June and closes in late September. So you'd likely have the best conditions in from mid July to early September.

Awesome review :-)
Thank you
Interesting video, I agree with most of the content, but please note that not all circuits allow you to bring in your own food. If possibke I do always bring in my food, as the prices are usually high and the lines are very long. Also I recommend to bring a small portable FM radio, as on most tracks the comment of the loudspeakers around the track is also broadcast on FM radio. I always have one on me plus earphones and ear muffs. The frequency varies at each track, but will be easy to find yourselves. All F1 circuits have live commentary in the local language(s) plus in English (often by Mr Bob Contanduros, hè is very good and has a very long history as a F1 commentator, he travels ro most circuits). Also when staying in a non coveren grand stand or in a general admission zone, make sure you can withstand each type of weather: either the hot sun, rain, wind, cold etc Just a few tips from a F1 fan whom has been so far to 70 Grand Prixs in 13 different countries (since the year 1971) Enjoy your visit!
I've only been to 4 GP's but I completely agree with everything you said. Thanks for the watch and comment!

Thanks! I recently retired from a teaching career and now have a part-time remote job that I can do from anywhere.
@GlobeDecker I thought you might be a teacher due to your informed delivery:)
Skiing in Banff is more expensive than the Dolomites or Zermatt 😳
