i am a white person who does not care about making their parents proud. they haven't made me proud so I don't care if I make them proud.

I’m a mamas boy, and she is loving beyond words, but I also know I’ll never make her as proud as I wished I could. I struggle with addiction and mental health, and while she understands that, she doesn’t understand why I’d commit myself to a creative life when it doesn’t pay the bills. I just want to be myself and be accepted point blank period…by someone, sometime. Until then, I do it for myself and my dog. ❤

Half white Shad here. Yeah, I care about making my parents proud. But perhaps a more poignant question would be "What is the extent at which you would go to make your parents proud"? Where does it stop? Ya know? Would you shave your chin hair for a picture? I don't think my mom is proud of me. But I do care,

I did love them when i was little but they broke that. For years i lost contact. Then made contact again but I've realised for a while now that I'm just pretending. I say 'i love you' back to them but it's for their benefit not mine. And the more I say it so as not to hurt them, i realise I'm just hurting me.

no, i think at large we don't. our parents have a very weak grasp on community and generational programming. u know like, the white identity that was sold to generations past was a non-real identity - it was sold as the default.. upon closer inspection it was only the product of racist comparison, a kind of trick - almost like a shadow. unless maybe there was wealth in the family, the only functional purpose of white identity was to dissuade alliances that could threaten the power structure, undermining solidarity to preserve oppression and over-work. personally, i'm pretty fortunate to come from a family of farmers-turned-artists. a lot of other white kids have to rebel against prejudice taught by their elders. i just have to rebel against the idea that our family's strength lies in our perseverance through poverty, bc that's a complicit ideology to me. even then, i don't feel the need to make my parents proud bc their punishment/reward system was too violent for me to retain the ability to love them as a child yk my nervous system registered my parents as threats. plus they act like kids. they're mid-functioning mentally unwell addicts and they aren't very nice to me. i can't save them, and it's hard to respect them. then, they don't share my drive for liberation and community, so there's really nothing to keep me emotionally tethered. i think the average white family is characterized by alienation and complacence, honestly. making them proud by becoming complicit would make the kids even more sick. i think what most parents really want, though, is to see us get stable in a world that wasn't really designed for survival.

I enjoyed this video, but you forgot about us indigenous people. We were here on this land long before the europeans, spaniards or chinese. We were not and are not americans. We are a sovereign people and have been living on this land long before anyone “founded” anything. As a matter of fact, no land was founded. It’s an absurd thought.

David, you speak as if you've been living my life except I am not Asian. But when I was in 4th grade I had moved to a new town, new school, etc and everyone thought I was Asian because my eyes were so squinty bc my mom didn't give a fuck when I went to sleep. But I, am a artist, graffiti for 15 years, been drawung my whole life. Been to jail. Was in punk bands for 20+ years, second opinion, no dice and face the rail, toured the whole us and Canada like you man... and my mom is the white version of crazy, guilt tripping and complimenting all at the same time. I just wanna say, I wanna be like you...except not Asian. You can keep that. But to hear all what you describe during "it all adds up" ...makes me feel better. So thank you!

Everyones hair will lock if you simply keep it clean. Wash it dry with towel or blow dryer. If you can drip dry if possible for faster results, even better.you should condition sample and see what products give you the texture that best allows you to form your locks . The comb stops everyone's hair from locking. Stop combining. Wants to cut hair wants to come together like people in the comb is like some virus or social impact that separates it from for men to its natural way. There are many benefits to. I'll bet money!

I've been watching this guy a while now and I've realised that he speaks to me in a way other people are too afraid to. It makes me realise that he's not speaking to me directly. He's speaking for himself and at the same time he must be talking for himself and at the same time, almost every motherfucker on the planet. He's saying what everyone must be thinking nowadays. I don't know what that is. I'll tell you what though, it brings me more comfort than any professional, parent or religions could ever bring. Thank you.
