This is such a valuable conversation topic. Appreciate your opening the discussion and your sharing about how groundedness has gained significance for you over time. I too have observed over the years, that much of my spiritual journey and spiritual practice, has been learning how to ground in myself and in my body. After leaving a traditional academic track living mostly from my head at 30, I organically found myself exploring different entries into my body -- from diet /cooking to a number of different body practice modalities such as yoga, 5 rhythms / other free dance forms ending with butoh. It's been a useful distinction for me as well, to realize that certain spiritual paths are in fact "transcendence" oriented which is a different kind of experience of relating to the body. Eventually, I've found myself more and more drawn to body-based immanence, the ground of which requires practices of awareness and mindfulness. In opening up to my body, I must relate to so many more emotions, blockages, numbness, and/or sensitivities. I often still find myself "losing my groundedness" in wanting to run away from certain emotions or unpleasant sensations, or acting/reacting blindly from them. Groundedness today for me, has come to mean the ability to engage and stay with whatever comes up -- internally, or in my external environment -- with a conscious awareness. Also when I'm around others who are able to do this, I feel it immediately and it makes me feel grounded. I so value those with whom I can share experience in, or from, this state.
