Not the best terrain to learn to fly a performance wing. Better to opt for flat terrain, winch, no nearby obstacles. Soo much more relaxed and easier to let the wing fly and recover.

This is what happens when a novice pilot tries to fly an intermediate glider. Such a common and easily avoidable situation that could easily ended in a fatal crash. This is one of the reasons that HG is perceived as so dangerous.

You are over-controlling this wing way too much. You are super tense. That would be so much worse with the topless. I would recommend you to fly with zero VG, in this case it will be so much harder to get into PIO. Also you need to learn how to handle glider when flying fast. You can do it when you are really high. Just speed up and try to feel the glider so you avoid this. In case you have this again: 1. reduce the speed (release the tension on the bar), 2. Release VG.

If they were intending to top land, they were way too low and came in downwind. It looks like they were intending to just fly along the ridge but did not keep the glider faced into the wind and consequently were pushed into a left turn that could not be corrected. The mistake happens in the first 3 seconds of the video. To top land an approach should start high enough to turn upwind.
