Refresh my memory, what issues feature Johnny Redbeard aka the Creator?
Tricky question. He's featured here in issue 51 in a flashback, and was also featured in issue 25 ( Though it was actually Chelsea Nirvana posing as Johnny Redbeard) . So we really haven't seen that character in this book yet. Issue 96 is the next appearance of The Creator.
Nice review!
"On this other page Barbaric and Ricochet have a baby or something", haha, love it!
35 to 75 was my favorite run on Dragon.
Pretty new to the channel, have you covered the Larsen/David feud in the letters pages?
I intentionally did not. Peter David has had some serious health issues recently and I didn't see the value in rehashing the feud.
Never a dull moment in the Dragon's life.
Technically the first Mighty Man, Ann Stevens was my favorite supporting character.
Dragon was my favorite titlefor years, and Larsen my favorite writer/artist. He had the balls to do things in the Dragon that no one else did. And best letters page ever.
Agreed! Rereading all these has been so much fun. Thanks for checking out the videos.
Although he was heavily critized for his "homages" i always enjoyed his take on older characters, especially Mighty Man's origin and the villain Horde.
Erik drew a Thor versus Hulk story that eventually was published in Thor 385. On page one Hulk is in the fetal position in the middle of a disaster strewn field. So Erik used this motif at least once before Dragon as well.
I need to look that one up. I know there's other "self-swipes" by Larsen that I neglect to mention, but I find that stuff interesting, Thanks!
This one got by me..I will be checking out anything Tom does ....thanks for review
Congratulations on 50 Dragon videos! I finally got around to continuously reading Volume 2 this year and finally caught up to you this weekend. Been a blast reading an issue then turning around and watching your recap. Absolutely loving the journey so far. Thank you for creating these overviews and see ya in 2029.
Gotta check this one out hadn't heard of it...I trust your taste
I want a physical copy so bad 😢 it looks really good. Juni ba story telling hit me hard since the first issue.
Used to love the letters pages of the Dragon, especially the fued with peter David.
I avoided covering the Peter David feud for a few reasons, mostly David's recent health issues.
Worth it for the Erik Larsen and Steve Gerber commentary!
Brilliant review 👏 This was the first issue of Savage Dragon that I bought. I had previously read him in the Wildstar mini series ,Big Bang Comics and seen him in Tribe (although I didn't buy Tribe at the time it came out).
Thanks! Which issue of Tribe was he in, BTW? I'm unfamiliar.
@contempocomics He appeared in Tribe # 3 and Tribe Zero (which is really issue #4 but Zero issues were a trend so they went with it). Tribe Zero gives us a creative alternate origin of the Savage Dragon when he is caught in a time loop.
@afroscifizianzcomix7836 Thanks again! I was clueless that existed. Now, I'll have to track that down.
The art in this book made me a real fan of Sherman
Agreed. I don't believe I've seen their work before, but it's impressive.
I read Joe Quesada's letter and went back to Issue 19 confused by it just being Rita's bust, so flipped to the following Page 13, Panel 5 and wondering if that's what Joe Quesada was referring to with Dragon saying The Fiend tore up his nether region and he's not sure he can put it to use with Rapture.
A mystery for the ages... Somebody contact Joe Quesada and get to the bottom of this.
To be fair to that 10 year old, there’s probably not a lot going on in Moulton, AL. Also, “Mars Attacks,” has aged well, to its credit.
Gonna trust you on both of these books this week cause I didnt get either im sure ill be pleased..Frankenstein is really the only universal monster Ive ever been interested in.
Issue 2 released today. Did you get a chance to pick up the first? Any thoughts?
@@contempocomics didn't stop by my lcs today but I love the modern twist of issue one..and the art is great for the story
didn’t even know about this crossover that’s badass
Best background in the RUclips comic sphere.
I want to purchase this and lovingly plop my bio-waste upon it
Man your taste in comics is on point I literally just ordered all those copies from silver sprocket website last night.... definitely an underrated book
Thanks! The purpose of the channel was to talk about the comics I like and maybe introduce new readers to stuff they might have missed.
@@contempocomics I enjoy the content keep up the good work.
Overall I thought the series was okay. we need more creature.
Great review!
Good job. Keep em coming.
Nice, I like collecting the Minor Threats books, I will be on the hunt for this one!
The original was controversial because Mary Jane is dead. Her death being caused by cancer brought on by Peter’s radioactive spider-cum. Kaare Andrews was definitely doing a Miller pastiche with his art and the book is basically Spidey’s Dark Knight Returns. This new one the art seems more McFarlane-esque. Whether that is an intentional choice or simply an evolution in Kaare’s art I’m not sure.
I liked the first few issues very much, then one issue felt very padded, and I wasn't blown away by the ending. So I'll probably get The Dark Age in paperback, and not collect the singles. I am still curious how Gaiman wraps this up. I hope he surprises me.
Thanks for reviewing Ginseng Roots!
Thanks for watching! There's so much I wanted to say about this book, but it's hard to verbalize how effectively this story takes root in your brain while reading and sticks with you even after you finish it. I'm gobsmacked by the quality in every aspect of its creation. A remarkable comic that I'll forever sing the praises of. A revelation of how good comics can be.
Thanks for the review. The sound is great. But it was good before as well by my standards :) (not in the U.S., feel free to skip me)
Thanks for the input. I got some great recommendations that I'll be trying this week.
whoa love the theremin
Thank you for reviewing this book it says a lot about your channel definitely worth a sub because this series is one of the very slept on underrated books. I hope this series go far and have many issues. I think this issue will be important later in the run.
Always look fowards to these posts, gonna keep this one on my radar for sure
Poster image was also the cover of Image Illustrated a special edition of Hero Illustrated
Thank you! I knew I recognized that from somewhere, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Main reason Erik did this book was so he’d have an unbroken run.
Bodycount hits different in 2024
After over 10 years of absence, I picked up the latest issue and find spider-girl twins shooting webs out of their crotch and Mickey Mouse being a public domain pain in the ass. Never change Larson.
Man I love savage dragon. They don’t even carry it at either of my locals 😢
Not many shops stock copies of Savage Dragon on the shelves. If you're interested in reading the newest issues, you'll have to tell your local comic shop to preorder and pull them aside for you.
@@contempocomics yea I know, it sucks. I’ve actually had to resort to just ordering them online myself. I once asked an employee at one of my locals and their response was classic comic shop sarcastic derision.
Dude Wat is that stuff u got the book laying on lol
That has been the most common question so far on the channel. It's an old art project a friend made that seemed like it would be an interesting background for these videos. Maybe too interesting...
I thought it was green screen projected at first
Wtf is your comic on top of that looks like a giant table brain? Also the cover of issue 1 looks cool I might have to check it out based on your flip through.
You are pretty accurate with your description of the table brain. It was a piece from an art show that I've had sitting around the basement and decided to use it for these videos since it's more visually interesting than a white background.
that cover needs to be on a t-shirt
Thanks for checking out Vengeance Is For The Living! It can be ordered from Floating World Comics if people’s LCS don’t have it
