    Another reason to avoid ChatGBT is that is can be factually wrong. I’ve seen this at least five times. It’s fine for something that isn’t serious, but a person would be foolish to depend on it entirely.

    I guess you didn't read Freire. Marxist part must have slipped by you. Perhaps Lenin will help "Give me your children for 5 years and I will have them for life" paraphrasing. It may have slipped by some people but more and more money keeps going into education and test scores keep going down, that's an odd coincidence. Maybe, just maybe instead of sticking to the subjects people are spending a lot of time talking about other things. I don't know if anyone has seen an entrance exam to colleges say from early 1900's but I would venture to say most teachers couldn't pass those tests but maybe I'm just thinking of Cambridge or Oxford. Just for clarity equity means equality of out come not equality of opportunity. Any good Marxist would know that, I'm sorry post-modernist. I do agree with trying to maximize everyone's potential that is desirable. The understanding of IQ's and distributions (bell curve, gaussian curve) means equal outcomes are impossible without basically holding others back or down. Kind of explains the outcomes in some countries. I guess that is acceptable if you can look past the Gulags, re-education camps oh yeah and all the genocide. 120 million corpses just from ideology that seems pretty compassionate. Help people, be nice to people that is on the individual not the state. For those who think everything is socially constructed and the utopia can be ushered in if we just get everyone to think the same refer back to my earlier examples. Right now I think I'll just settle for cameras in every classroom where the only subject is the subject.

    I so relate to Dr. Shamari Reid's story. My father was dying and I went to visit him in hospice and then went back to work the next day. Also I went back to work right after having a baby later that school year because my permanent sub quit and my school kept emailing me for lesson plans. Argh!

    Why the furor over teaching Critical Race Theory; is it because it speaks Truth to Power,? Anyone living on this society can see there's something afoot although they may not be able to point out the systemic interplay of governmental policies and their intended results. The furor just points up the justification for its discussion or teaching. rplay

I’ll be remotely presenting a lecture tomorrow “The Bible On Critical Race Theory” to the Men’s Ministry of Poplar Hill Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA covering the Theory, its origins, its conceptual support in the Bible and in independent research and how Christians should respond. It’s great to see Christians standing up and advocating for the basic observations of Critical Race Theory, it’s literally one of the most critical topics of our day, especially for African Americans because we’re in genuine danger of having our rights rolled back to some very dark times.

    You talked about having a summer birthday and not having it celebrated during school since it falls in the summer. My birthday is in June and I also missed having other students recognize my birthday. I am happy to report that my grandchildren's school actually selects a day in the month closest to their birthday to celebrate their day. So my granddaughter with a late June birthday gets to bring cupcakes and celebrate her day in May with all her classmates.

    • @theartofadvocacy
      @theartofadvocacy Год назад

      That just warms my heart to read. Another strategy schools do is to select a day for a general celebration that may include birthdays and other milestones as a more inclusive method. That helps consider families that don't celebrate birthdays as well.

    This was a great episode to listen to. I created a framework for talking to children about social justice issues called Inspect, Reflect, Correct and Connect. Great question about AR. I think that the issue with AR reading is the type of questions being asked of students on the tests don’t expect them to look at books with a social justice lens. If they incorporated more questions that got students thinking critically versus just inferentially, they would be doing a better service towards moving diverse students forward. I agree representation is important, but representation without explicit conversation about social justice and equity lens to those conversations are just cultural nods and not true inclusion.
