The story of the Godfather of Subaru Rally - The origin of it's soul - The start of it's 'Legacy' #subaru #legacy #bc5 #bc5legacy #legacybc5 #impreza #subaruimpreza #wrxsti #subarulegacy #subarulegacyrs #subarulegacyb4 #subaruwrx #subaruwrc #sti #subarusti #jdm #jdmlifestyle #jdmgram #jdmlife #jdmculture #jdmsociety #jdmnation #jdmcars
Can’t listen to that awful accent. 😕
what a death trap. The front end on that thing would just fold (and not in a crumple zone way) if it crashed into anything hard. Imagine hitting a tree at 80 mph in this thing. There are pics of Ari Vatenanas 205 where the aluminium roll cage is just crushed. Aluminium roll cages are great for weight saving but pretty useless in a crash lol.
Was the black one all wheel drive?
I’ve owned 7 of these legacy turbos .!! I currently have a mint 1992 Subaru Legacy turbo 5spd with 107 thousand original km.!!!
Where is the horn located.? im trying to find mine as it doesnt work ,,,
@@david-sw1bs the steering wheel
Best days of rallying glad I seen these days
Legacy RS type RA >>>>> 22B.
Great video
I was working for The Mazda Rallye Team Europe in Belgium. Yes we had to build 20 cars to get the homologation. in 1985 we started to build a 4wheel Group S Car. This car had 3 Rotors and 550hp. As we finished that car in 1986 Group B was over and we started the 323 Group A until 1992.
We have been slowly building a Classic Mazda for Rallying in Kenya..would you know if we could get design drawings especially for the rear Escort like link suspension on the Group B Mazda ?
Great video guys! Cheers from Barcelona
The first sti was the 85 Rx turbo sedan awd I have 1018 out of 1500 and it’s sti swapped well balanced car for sure
Just lettin ya know the first cars STI did were in fact RS Type R’s not RA’s, Subaru STI actually built competition car Legacy’s for the JDM market and Safari rally out of Type R’s and the car Subaru STI sent over to Prodrive with a load of parts was a Type R . After the Record Atempt win the STI motors that won the world record we’re now fitted to Type RA’s . The same STI guys who won the world record hand finished the RA motors, there would be no Legacy RS type RA without the Legacy RS Type R
How would 1986 have been one of the best years for rally? It was tragic. After that, the likes of Audi no longer wanted to compete.
Nice, the 222D is one of the prettiest rally cars in my opinion and Im so happy to have a 1/43 scale model in my collection. I love to drive it in games such as Loeb Rally Evo, Gravel and art of rally. A pity theres no Group S car in any of the DiRT or WRC games.
true, this is my favorite rally car. same as the audi quatro rally car
I think the AW11 MR2 is one of the most attractive cars there is (I've owned 3) but I still think the 222D is ugly 😂
@@clockhanded isn't the 222D based on the AW11? So how can it be ugly then if u like the AW11?
@@magnuskevinsen2380 The angular profile of the MR2 is perfect. It looks like Origami. The wedge shaped hood is even better with pop up headlights. The 222D looks bloated. I always wanted fender flares on my MR2. The bulging wheel fenders on the 222D are far too round. If they could have just made the front pair angle toward the front bumper more sharp it might have looked better. The blunted front bumper is bizarre. With the ride height, it would have looked better if they commited to a protruding front splitter or even a vertical one. The slightly recessed front splitter looks like they couldnt make up their mind which way they wanted it to go. (Mentioning the front splitter is giving me flashbacks, those are the most commonly broken, highly sought part on the AW11 😅😅) I say all that knowing damn well those genius engineers designed a masterpiece of performance that had a purpose for every square inch. I just think it looks kinda ugly with the weird aero on the body.
CORRECTION: I BELIEVE THE 503E WAS FROM ANOTHER CAR, NOT THE GROUP C CAR. (I am not 100% sure)
Yes toyota used 503e in 88C group c racing car. It was also used in eagle hf89 and JGTC Castrol Tom's supra gt500
Seen two of these Rx7's in New Zealand rallys!
There was also the Toyota celica twin cam turbo but also front engine rwd that was mostly used in the African events.
Funny how the 22b is such a rare subaru yet Ive seen more 22b's in real life than Ive ever seen an s201, type ra-r or even a s401/2
The sound is just on a godly level
many people praise for the iconic maniches of Group B like the Quattro the RX-7 is my all time favorite for it's uniqueness. I want to bring a little addition that one japanese manufacturer that had success in Group b was Toyota with the Celica Twin Can Turbo (TCT). sure it was RWD but unlike the other cars the Celica was very endurable for more gruelling rallies such as the Safari Rally in Kenya and they won for 3 years being named as "The King of Africa"
Awesome 👏🏾
Nice video ✌🏻 Keep making videos like this This channel deserves to grow
Thankyou!
There’s no way this video only has less than 1000 views. Amazing video man you just got another subscriber 👍 Keep it up!
Thankyou!
In the US we got a de tuned version of this and it was ultra rare. It had a closed deck design 2.2L NON Intercooled turbo engine with either 5sp manual or 4sp automatic. My 1st ever turbo car was a 93 Winston met 5sp w/Bk int . It was 1998 and no one made parts . I ordered parts from Japan JIC magic coil overs a new Garrett turbo a custom 3 in exh to a modified HKS muffler . 17 in OZ Wheels it was a fast car for its day. I always dreamed of high Hp but then it was not possible for a normal kid who worked paving driveways and spent every dime on my cars . I also had a 91 legacy turbo an auto I bought for parts but it was too nice to part out. And I had a 91 civic si hatch and a 91 non turbo legacy I gave to my dad. All at the age of 19! I owned all tease at one time. I bought and sold cars and parted out cars to fund my hobbies
Underrated, i thought this was made by someone with hundreds of thousands subscribers. Great job!
Thankyou for watching!
What a great car
I'd say the rally legacy of the Impreza starts with the Legacy, but the basis for the Impreza model itself started with the Leone, which was a car in the same size class, built with similar architecture and internals to the base Impreza. Still a good video though.
Hi nice film I own a gen 1rsra , just thought I'd mention the gen 1 ra were built from 89 to 93 2 versions of preface lift and 2 of facelift. All the ra came from sti factory with gas flowed ,hand ported heads amongst other things that you mentioned, thanks for spreading the history of this wolf in sheeps clothing
Ray they are actually blue printed by sti engineers the very same who built the record attempt engines . Some are known to have had steel rods and the Sti catalogue was comprehensive even in the early days
nice!, i love subaru legacy
Excellent video!! Most videos I see nowadays are uploaded with tons of wrong info, hearsay and poor editing (ie. the narrator is talking about a specific year of subaru and the video is showing a different year) 🙄. It’s really awesome to see a video where someone knows their stuff! 👏😊
Thankyou for the comment! 🙏🏾 I know alot of videos have misinformation and I try my best to find authentic sources. Glad to see someone notice and appreciate that 💯
Great informative video bro ❤
Thankyou ❤️
