Dear Ms Rines, First, I want to express my empathy towards you and how you may feel living in a bigger city. But please note, as a man, we aren't all at fault. I agree that yes, there are creeps I wouldn't want even a football fields length near my sister. But, I will say this much- the situations that many people encounter, women and men alike, are partially due to lack of parents involved in children's lives. As divorce has been on the rise. Another part is the entertainment industry that heavily impacts current culture. For at least 30 years, movies and shows have portrayed men and women in degrading roles ( men constantly portrayed as couch potatoes that won't do anything and always spaced out where the women are portrayed into " transactional " sex objects. Even in songs! In short this has all snowballed into a couple generations that have lack of true social skills, discipline, and honest role models to base themselves on. Sadly, it may get worse. Please understand this isn't me trying to create a case or anything against you. This is merely my observation. Honestly I'm not even old ( I'm 24 ) so it's not like I'm a baby boomer going on about the topic of why one generation is above another. I just find it sad that because families are broken, the entertainment industry portrays these horrendous stereotypes and practically encourages it to the point that we now have an identity crisis.
