Diving into Mammoth Lake

This weekend we made the 5 hour drive South to Lake Jackson, TX to do some super cool diving at Mammoth Lake. This lake is so massive and so full of cool things, that one weekend is not near enough to do it all. We can't recommend this place enough! Diving into Wheeler Branch Park

This week I head over to Wheeler Branch Park in Glen Rose, TX to do some training dives with Lone Star Scuba and earn my 5th PADI specialty, the last one I need to meet all the Master Scuba Diver requirements. The visibility wasn't as good as it normally is due to all the rain we had this week but you know what they say, when you train in the worst conditions you become a much better diver in g...

Diving into Wrecks off Key Largo

Come along as I dive the USS Spiegel Grove, USCG Bibb, USCGC Duane, and the SS Benwood and see tons of sharks and other awesome wildlife while on the Molasses reef. You may notice that the current was a bit strong as Hurricane Isaias was bearing down on us which made the dives a little more challenging to say the least.

Our Pandemic Road Trip

Thanks to this stupid virus, Disney World had to close which meant our wedding got postponed til next summer and our St. Lucia trip was cancelled. So we did the next best thing and took a road trip to the Florida Keys to do some Scuba Diving while diligently practicing social distancing, doing frequent hand washing, using tons of hand sanitizer, and wearing our masks. We also planned all activi...

Yes, they can. The last time we were there, a mermaid group was there swimming with their tails.

Yes, the current was pretty strong when I went. In fact, I got left behind and had to swim across the top of the ship to catch up with the group (they had swam to the bow and were coming back around). It was really cool to see though and I’d like to do it again.

Great video! I admire your courage to dive in the darkness. I was at Wheeler Branch yesterday and the visibility was so bad I didn’t really want to dive much. I went about a month ago and it wasn’t much better, not sure what was going on with it because it’s usually much better than that. Where was the fire hydrant? I have never seen it before.

Thank you so much! This was definitely my second worst dive experience, the first being the deep dive I had to do to get my advanced and it was at Wheeler Branch too. Even though it was pretty scary at some points, I feel like I really gained some experience and skills that will help me later when I am in the big ocean. This is definitely the worst time of the year for visibility no matter which scuba lake you choose to dive. The fire hydrant had only been installed for a week or two when we went. It you stand at the boat ramp, it will be off to your left, toward the helicopter and plane.

@@cjkbleonard11 Oh- wow! I can't believe you did your deep dive there! I have always wondered what is looks like past 40' and would love to see a video of that. Have you been down in the silo at Terrell? Yeah, diving around here makes the ocean a piece of cake, except for currents. I want to get the deep diving cert, we just got back from Key West and did the Vandenberg- it was awesome, except I am not used to 100'. I did well on air management, but almost forgot to check on my no deco limit. We are off to Cozumel in a month with our local dive shop and I am going to see if I can get the deep diving cert while I am there. We will probably do some fall/winter diving. Last year the vis was decent in December, the temps were around 52 degrees and that took some getting used to, but we were were gearing up for San Diego. Do you live around Fort Worth? You should friend me on Facebook; my boyfriend and I regularly dive Wheeler Branch, Terrell, and Lake Travis whenever we can. We would love to have more diving friends! Shelly Selmon

@@shellyselmon5782 Oh gosh, I don't think there would be anything to see if I videoed that deep dive. That was the coldest, darkest experience of my life! I was about 20 seconds from bailing out but we finally hit depth so I was able to stick it out thank goodness!!! When I went to St. Lucia the next month, I went ahead and did my deep specialty because I knew I never wanted to go that deep again in a Texas lake, so no, I haven't made it down to the silos in Terrell. Getting your deep specialty is a super helpful one to have and I think doing it in Cozumel is a great idea! My fiancee and I have talked about possibly going to Cozumel soon to do some diving as well. I'm not much for the cold water, lol! Recently, I've started wondering if maybe I should look into dry suit training so that I can extend my dive season. I just sent you a friend request on Facebook. We would love to do some diving together. I haven't been to Lake Travis yet but I signed up to participate in the lake cleanup next month, I'm hoping it's not too cold!
