Nice!
They class
Maranta are making far too much money for what they are
Still have a pair of 15s from the 80s and they still rock
good video. i still have my marantz 105 tuner with a beautiful wood case. nothing like a marantz.
Great video. Saying this from a guy in his early 70s who agrees with you on many points. I think spending huge amounts of money to get marginal increases in sound quality is a waste. This is especially true as one gets older and their hearing begins to decline. Secondly I love the Marantz sound and looks. My first receiver was a Knight kit that I assembled since it was the least expensive way to go back in the day. In the late 70s I replaced it with a Technics because it seemed like a good unit for the price at the time. I enjoyed it for over 30 years then bought a modern Yamaha and it sounded too sterile to me. I replaced it with a vintage Marantz that I much prefer. I read that the 2220B and the 2245 were very good receivers so I bought both about 13 years ago to see which I liked better. I ended up selling the 2245 since the 2220B sounded better to me at the relatively low volume that I usually play my music.
I had a MARANTZ preamp, tuner and power amp in 70s the sound was magnificent.
Nope. Not any more.....................Sansui is a better product in all aspects.
@robertdavis5714 I have had many vintage Sansui in here for repair. Can you explain exactly, from a topology and electrical engineering standpoint, how 70s Sansui is better than 70s Marantz? Thanks.
People are mad with high prices i love vintage audio but refuse to pay a grand for it
@hyderzuern5664 1k is a bargain compared to what you can get new. The 70S 2 channel marantz starts at 1k and looks to be a SMT, IC filled non repairable unit made in vietnam, that has a service life, and then it is to be thrown away. A vintage marantz lasts decades until it needs service and then after service, will last more decades
I love my 2238B
@jamiescarry460 I haven't heard one, they seem to be very well regarded.
I have a Marantz 2325 Receiver, Great unit, i remember these from the 1970s as a teenager
@robertiannucci1667 you lived in the best of times
Nice breakdown of your restoration & repair advice, The 4400 is simply massive,My 2275 sits on top of the 4400 & looks like a toy,125 W X 2 Ch & 50 W X 4 Ch rating is laughable, I had my 4400 in a club running 12 spkrs @ copious volume levels without even warming up, like a casual walk of raw power output!
Okay, 60-ish guy here. I too have been involved in the hobby for a long time. My Dad had a high end components system. This doesn’t make me an expert, but I know what I like. For me sound takes first priority. Other consideration are secondary. There is something to be said for new audio and vintage audio. I must say that the esthetics of the vintage receivers beats new audio and robustness of new audio is better than vintage audio. I love Marantz 70’s and early 80’s units. The sound is great along with the esthetics. I also like the fact even some of their middle of the line units had some of the features of the high end models e.g. midrange tone control (I know. Real audiophiles disdain tone controls.) However the price points that Marantz commands, are out of sight and have made the Marantz receivers “status symbols”. I can pay less less money and get sound that is every bit as good if not better than Marantz. I just cannot justify the Marantz status symbol tax. YMMV.
@jaman878 even with the crazy prices, as someone in their mid 30s, I think for this level of quality they are actually a bargain, when you cosider we will never see this again. Everything now is mass produced in China and the boutique hand built stuff is the stuff that is actually out of reach.
50 here. I have to disagree about the "status symbol" at least for me. I bought my tired 2245 for 2 main reasons. Sound and build quality. I restored my 2245 myself and afterwards I realized I made the right choice. I've seen inside several vintage audio receivers and integrated amps. Marantz build quality is tops in my honest opinion. Doesn't mean they are the "best" but they are extremely well made. I have about $900 in my 2245 after I restored it. What can get me that level of build quality and sound for under $900?? Nothing. Even at $1500... I don't know of anything. I'm in the process of restoring a Marantz 1060 as I type and it's a breeze to work on. Much easier than the 2245. I have others waiting in line along with some vintage tube gear. I'd say McIntosh is the real status symbol, but they are built excellent, sound great and they still have a top level support service. MC60 Mono blocks vs Dynaco ST-70.... I'd like to see that comparison.
@@PossibleAudio I love my Marantz and my ST 70 :) I like everything. Well, ....almost.
Marantz gear is traded like high end art works in the market place.
@hhvictor2462 they pretty much are, lol. Just to manufacture the faceplate these days with that fine screen print would cost a lot of money, and manufacturing the transformers and cases the way they were... if they made them like they did they would be in the 3-4k range I reckon due to inflation and cost of doing business.
Unless you are extremely lucky, you can’t avoid the Marantz tax if you’re a serious buyer of one of these receivers. I bought my first (a 2245) back in 1973 lightly used from my older cousin, and fell hard for that sound that only these vintage (PMS) receivers can put out. But that’s based on my ear only. Newer systems can sound good to others, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I lost my 2245 to a divorce, but was able to score one a few years ago, and have it restored. It’s hooked to a pair of JBL-L166 Horizons, and just sounds incredible, exactly as they did 50+ years ago. Was the price worth it? To me, it was a bargain!
@robertclark9 man. I always say. To buy a modern piece that compares tonally would cost way, way more than the typical Marantz Tax. I've serviced some "high end" audio stuff for some local guys (art audio PX-25, a 10k+ tube amp among others...) and I think they are still a bargain for how well they were built and how they sound. Modern stuff isnt really in the same league, in many cases.
Another 60ish here. I have about twenty 70’s receivers. All different brands from that era, and all different speakers from those years. Higher end…lower end. Receivers, amps, and speakers from later years as well. My stand only cradles my Marantz 2226 lovingly these days. It just looks and sounds like it’s home. Keep on keepin’ on young fella.
@@MU-io5en they are special. I will also review modern stuff as I get them in for repair.
How about a review on the Shure SR112 Loudspeakers? Built for PA setups they sound great in a 13 spkr vintage home audio sound system, dual ported construction with 2, 8" massive magnet woofers & 1 horn tweeter with a SPL warning after prolonged usage to your hearing! Required L-pads to blend in the audio to the other 11 spkrs
@@rocketsredglare8440 never seen those speakers. If I get some I will review them.
@@resistorstudios Replaceable diaphragm on the horn tweeter makes for easy replacement
Wonderful in-depth breakdown from build construction & design to sonic qualities & comparison to modern gear,Purchased in 1975 when I was a teen, 2275, 4400, 6300 & 5030b, still all working, look great though vellum paper needs replacement as dial is green not proper blue & 1-2 bulbs need replacement as well, Huge maintenance on a 50 yr old receiver/s,LOL
@@rocketsredglare8440 I have done a few. Just finished up a 4400 today. Will review it after its finished.
@@resistorstudios I have to adjust voltage,dc-offset & bias on the 4400,dc-offset is Main/Front, R=3.4, L=8.2, Main/Rear, R=86.2, L=87.8, Remote/Front, R=3.2, L=7.5, Remote/Rear, R=87.5, L=87.2, Bizarre dc-offset values & so high on both rear channels?
@rocketsredglare8440 my gosh. Ok. On mine I replaced ALL of the transistors on the amp boards. The outputs were still ok. I replaced all the caps, and diodes as well.
SMSL SU-1 DAC is amazing for something less than $100.
@RUclipsRUclips-gy3lt it really is. I do feel like its slightly more fatiguing than the Modi+ however I do prefer it.
Ok, I'm 60ish and have been involved in audio professionally my entire life, I just want to say I agree 100% with you 😁, don't listen to the audio "snobs", the path you're on is the right one, JMHO.
@@poserwannabe1 thanks for the comment! Check out my other videos!
@resistorstudios I will fo sho !!
Totally agree about the look of them. Something about watching those needles bouncing so perfectly in analogue on the VU's you just do not get with a strip of led lights.
@hersnab I like to install LEDs as the back light to replace those old fluorescent bulbs behind the meters, becase the bulbs get hot and burn the plastic. But i agree
Nice video. I too like the sound of different amps. I’ve been known to listen to an amp for 6 months and then all the sudden want to change the sound so I switch for 6 months. Then I switch back. Audio hobby is a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing
@@CatFoodDraino it is fun. I switch between tube and SS often.
I have an SX450 maybe the baby of the bunch but that is for lower volume, next to it I have my technics that hits the higher volumes fun package 😎

Красивый рессивер класс😂😂😂
да, это очень хороший усилитель, 1978 года выпуска. Схемы не было, поэтому было очень сложно. Я закончил ремонт, и с хорошими динамиками он звучит потрясающе.
Did you fix an amplifier
yes
I listen to your other amps and this little thing is probably my favorite.
It recorded quite well. In person or in a live situation, basically any of the other amps are better. The Joyo is an absolute steal though and necessary for recording IMO. way better than using IRs and amp sims.
Do you prefer the Zombie?
@GlenHyden it is pretty great, i dont prefer it, i just like it as another tool. They're all good.
Your first time, legend.

What part number for the mounts
hey boss love this car. i also have a 92 camaro with a 305 small block. was looking to see if you know if there is any camms that i can throw on it. please and thank you
Do you have a list of mods or a build thread?
Its a fairly mild build as far as lt1 builds go. Its a carbed 355 lt1. Low compression forged pistons, brings the compression down to like 9.1:1 (future boosted build) Heavy chinese forged H beam rods. Scat 9000 crank. The heads are factory LT1, with some light bowl blending and port matched to the intake. The intake is a GMPP lt1 carbed intake. The cam is a common style 224/230 , .541 lift (with 1.6 rockers) 110 LSA The valvesprings are bullet vs2700, with comp cam pro mag roller rockers 1.6 Stock valves . Hooker hkr 2460 shorties, hooker aerochamber catback. Summit HEI with a recurve, total timing i believe is 36-37 total, 20 initial, NGK TR55 spark plugs, accel 8mm wires, Summit m2008 600 cfm carb. Thats about it, but any LT1 with a cam and tune with exhaust should be able to make these numbers, the motor is making 398@ 5200 at the crank so probably 410 or so at 6k which for an Lt1 is rather mild, with a more aggressive cam and LE2 heads on a 383 lt1 you.can get closer to 450 -480 crank hp pretty easily. This dyno reads 15% lower than a roller dyno and factor in driveline loss it comes to about 398@ 5200 rpm. Not sure why he stopped that early it will pull to 6k.
Cam?
@p4023 demos custom cam. Its a pretty common style about 220/220 , .544 lift, (with 1.6 rockers) and 110 LSA.
@@resistorstudios horsepower and how much did it cost?
@p4023 the car makes about 410 crank hp and 415 tq. On a heartbreaker dyno that reads 15% lower than a roller dyno it made 297 @5200. Thats about 341whp on a normal dyno. I bought the cam used but there are other cams that have a similar profile. Basically any cam with 220 / 220 duration and .510+ lift will do it. My build is actually sort of mild. With better heads it will make 450 hp or more at the crank. The cost if you do it yourself is honna be like 1k$.
Beautiful camaro
She sounds mean….❤
We need more of this! A raw American V8 machine. Torn up seats, chipped paint, tail lights that look like toasters, a chevy with real fog lights.... this is a cherry right here! Sounds good too 👌🏼🔥
Still 100% stand by this comment.
Hello there mate, nice demo! I wanted to ask since you have both amps the Modena and the Triple X, which one is more recommended for tight low-end metal galloping and palm muting that doesn't need boosting, I found a Triple X for a very decent price (Around 300$) that thinking to go to another town to pick in few days, yet I found a Modena with its 2x12 Elmwood for sale ((1900$) yet the price is a bit much but I'm talking with the seller but he's not into metal to be able to help with some questions since he also lives in another city than me. I play mainly metal (Rhythm) and very few solos and cleans here and there. I was considering to buy an Engl Blackmore (950$) for how good the amp sounds even when gain maxed it retains clarity and tightness, I can think the Triple X can do the same from some reviews I seen demoing the full gain for the sake of the test...How is the Modena in that kind of test? And if you have more things to say about the amp character and tone, I'd be happy to know further since if I purchased the amp with the cab, I won't be able to test it till the seller ships it to me. And don't wanna feel investing in such price ball-park and then feel the amp is nothing special than my current Randall RG100SC.

i have the jsx with el34 with the same cab but with v30... i want a more marshall type sound... does the creamback does that?
No, your best bet is to use crunch channel and roll off the highs, lows and turn gain waaaay down and turn the mids all the way up. Thats the closest youre gonna get.
ok!
found one for $200 but im offering him $100 due to the ridiculous paint job someone did on it haha
Just picked up one of these for $120. The Tolex is beat, but for the price and construction I couldn't pass. Speakers sound really nice to me!
U.S. Made I played the crap out of a bunch of Vintage Club Crates Got rid of my bunch of Black and Silver face Fenders when I found them Rock On
Never paint the rims black......
These rims were faded badly, the clear was non existent and the red accent was faded to pink. I blacked them out like 6 years before i had the car painted and was only using em for a little while before i reolace them with my new wheels. Theyre long gone
Those old amps didnt have master volumes, so they had to be cranked. They were also designed for big stages, not bedroom jamming. Modern amps also have more preamp tubes.
