Active Bass Control Explained - Venueflex Processor Technology
Fulcrum Acoustic's Active Bass Control corrects for common low-frequency challenges in rooms like the appearance of power alleys and coverage nulls.
To achieve this, our Venueflex processors continually sample the subwoofer drive signals from an installed audio system, and produces complementary and adaptive signals to drive low-frequency control loudspeakers distributed around the room. This creates tighter, more controlled sub-bass response for an improved audio experience.

Great video!
Well done Dave! All be best.
One if not the best small speaker manufacturing company I have ever heard about when the designed the studio live series of speakers for pre-Sonus I knew this was a full come acoustic design speaker, and I fell in love with the design, so I bought them never regretted my purchase since but my question to full chrome acoustic why was not there a follow up of that design of speaker marketed, and sold separately
Thank you for the kind words! We designed the RM line of reference monitors to be used in professional studio settings: www.fulcrum-acoustic.com/product-category/reference-monitor
Funny ! Love the company already.
Heard a pair a few days ago and love them. Great stuff
Do any of your passive cardioid subs work in a studio context?
The passive cardioid will function. Beyond that, it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. For more info, send an email with details to Rich's attention at info@fulcrum-acoustic.com.
Is it possible to get DSP settings for these cardioids for the MiniDSP Flex processor? These are relatively low cost and have very good dacs. They have 10 IIR PEQs for each input channel and 10 for each of 4 outputs. They also allow importing custom biquads to implement all pass filters, etc. Finally, for 2 inputs, there would be a bit more than 2000 FIR taps for each input for linear phase corrections. Finally, between the IIR PEQs and FIR taps, is this enough DSP capability to be a “level 1” processor? Thanks!
"That's an interesting question. The only way we would know is if we were sent a processor for evaluation." - Rich Frembes, Senior Technologist. Feel free to send an email to Rich's attention at info@fulcrum-acoustic.com.
nicely explained! the most intuitive video I've seen on this subject so far especially gave my some insight on the physics behind the inversion of the time axis during the convolution process
Say with passive radiators, placing the at the back of the speaker, does this work in the same way but of course at a minimised range say under 30hz?
"No, a passive radiator lacks the ability to custom tailor the acoustical resistance." - Dave Gunness
Ha!! Was literally working on an EASE model swapping out the AH for the AHC!!
😂 😅that ending! Y’all’s facility is rad & It was great to ‘meet’ so many of y’alls folks. ✌🏼
Haha great video!
Hey guys. Sorry I couldn't attend the live webinar, but just watched the recording. I'm wondering about lobing at high frequency. The acoustic centers of the HF horns is pretty far apart. Do you see lobing in the 2-8kHz range? Maybe it's negligible at long distances? Is it negated by limiting the steering range?
You are correct in that the spacing is OK because the steering angle is small. Any steering is nearly always downward, which means that whatever lobing is produced goes upward - over the audience's heads.
Thanks for uploading this folks!
Thanks guys, super interesting product! The GoPro footage is impressive. I couldn’t attend the live stream, so hope it’s okay to ask some questions here? Sorry, there are a few of them! - Do you plan to offer a user-accessible configuration tool for the beam steering in the future? Perhaps stand-alone, or part of the GLL API? - Is a personal EASE license required? Or would you accept exported venue GA geometry from Odeon, CATT or similar for generating the beams steering? - What happens if the on-site measurement results differ from the model? Perhaps we would have to send impulse responses from designated locations on a site plan and await an updated set of FIR? - Expanding on that; are you considering any portable or touring products based on this technology? Or perhaps it could be applied to the FL283T, via AFMG FIRmaker & EASE Focus 3? I’d love to have something like an AHS/AH/FH system that could be hung for gigs! - What average SPL and tonal variance were you able to achieve across the seating areas in the example stadium? Is there a case study document with some data plots available? And finally, could you please upload the GoPro footage to your RUclips channel as a standalone video, or share the files directly? It’s a great demo, but would be better with smooth video to go with it!
Hey Kyle. Lots of questions there :) Thanks for watching the webinar. I'll reply in order of your questions: -At present, we are doing all of the configuration using our in-house software tools. As we get further down the road we will evaluate the possibility of folding the steering into some user-accessible tool. -Yes, an EASE license is required. However, if you can furnish the room model to us in a form that can be imported into EASE, that is fine. -Generally speaking, our modeling predictions correlate well with field results. If something isn't matching in the field, we'd work with you to understand what variances you are seeing and correct accordingly. Its hard to predict what might be helpful in that particular scenario, but its likely that a few well-chosen direct-field SPL measurements might be all that is required. -AHS is the only products using beam-steering/forming. AHS was specifically designed for this in terms of the acoustics and general packaging. FL283T/AH/FH don't really lend themselves to this type of steering due to their acoustical design. AH and FH for portable applications is a separate topic. We've had a few folks express interest in this but creating portable versions of these products is mechanically complex. -Drop us a note at info@fulcrum-acoustic.com and Rich can provide more details about uniformity, SPL, etc for the MHB project.
Wow. What a great description of the two types of digital filters. Everything is so much clearer and sensible. Thanks! How about also put the windowing and the different types into same clear explanation also?
I like that too re uploaded old videos. Love to see some new videos
Great video Dave! Thanks!!
Hi Dave, could your PCT work properly even if the sub is placed right beneath the stage (no "breathing" room above and below)?
Subwoofers are claustrophobic The need space all around them to breath to work correctly. Theirs a great article on prosoundweb about this
@@alaskaaudioguy35 Yes, I am aware of this (the best article on this point is by Fedele Del Marco here illatooscurodellafase.wordpress.com/2019/04/05/effects-of-stages-on-cardioid-configurations-last-measures-on-the-last-workshop-bass-control/ ), thats why I am asking Dave how is it with PCT. Maybe guys in Fulcrum can bend the law of physics a bit more, I do not know.
We don't have a definitive answer. "If it's under the stage you already have some isolation. The cancellation from the rear ports, if it works, isn't in the direction you need it to be." - Dave Gunness
I love Ken at 1:40: "They have asked me to talk about this paint and I can confirm that it is yellow."
rich pls stop looking at the camera
Love how all the maintenance on that can be done through the grille area. Who's genius idea was that, anyway? ;-)
