    In the U.K. if you put spray foam into your house no one will be able to take out a mortgage on it so if you want to sell to move house no buyer can get a mortgage until it has all been professionally removed at great cost. DO NOT DO IT!!!

    • @myboyscontracting748
      @myboyscontracting748 2 дня назад

      That’s so interesting! Here in the states spray foam is looked at as a positive and can actually increase the value of your home. It’s amazing how similar and different things can be once you cross the pond :)

      @@myboyscontracting748 in the U.K. the surveyor for the mortgage lender wants to see the condition of all the roof timbers - the trusses and joists - and spray foam means the roof cannot “breathe” (ie moisture escape) which means that the moisture will rot the timbers.

      That’s a great question! Depending on where your located, start with your local spray foam company. I’m sure they will know that answer - since they probably had to go through training themselves. And who knows, maybe they offer training! Best of luck.

      It’s absolutely an upfront cost that takes years to see any sort of payback. Depending on the project, sometimes using regular batt insulation is the way to go.

    This is not a problem at all. If you're the contractor you are ripping these customers off telling them it is wrong! It's not! 200 year old homes have this and are straighter and stronger than modern floors. If you are the customer, get rid of the evil contractors that are stealing you blind.

      @karenbethjones I've personally never tired it, but I've heard a lot of good things about bored/driven piles. Given your situation, I think it might work ok, but you'll have to decide for yourself. I believe you use them as the peirs in a typical peir and beam foundation. (Then add your vapor barrier, sump, new flooring, etc..)

    Not uncommon, depending on your region and when the home was built. Wood being way more available than concrete. A good sign, your home doesn't have a drainage or termite problem.
