This special feature of the Meditation Summit is an excerpt from an archival recording with Pema Chödrön on Good Medicine: How to Turn Pain into Compassion with Tonglen Meditation. How the actual fuck could he do this to me? May he suffer. May he suffer for all eternity. May she suffer eternally, too. Grief and rage suffocate and rape me. I want to die. I pray to die. I'm in hell with no escape. Submerged in darkness and turmoil. PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC ENDLESS PANIC I WISH ETERNAL SUFFERING UPON HIM AND HER. MAY THEY SUFFER FOR ALL ETERNITY FOR WHAT THEY'VE DONE TO ME. I WANT TO DIE. I WANT TO DIE I PRAY TO DIE I BEG TO DIE I PLEAD TO DIE I'M IN HELL WITH NO ESCAPE PARALYZING PANIC DEBILITATING TORMENT I'M IN ANGUISHED AGONY I want to die. It's my only prayer: please please please Lord let me die. I DESPERATELY WANT TO DIE. 44 years of suffering with intermittent fleeting windows of relief. Please Lord let me die. Please. Please, I want to die. Please. HE FUCKING ABUSED ME. He's gone now. I'm left to suffer, and he has a replacement. He replaced me in an instant. He's given me SEVERE PTSD. I have debilitating paralyzing daily panic attacks. He raped my soul. He used me while he needed me and then discarded me like garbage. My soul is raped. The PTSD is unbearable. HE REPLACED ME. HE SHATTERED MY HEART. HE RAPED MY SOUL. I'm all alone and suffering in anguish, and they are living happily ever after together. The PTSD and the loneliness and the grief that he's given me... Makes it so that I can't breathe. I drowned. I suffocate. I die inside. I'm in hell with no escape. NO ESCAPE. He raped my soul: brutally viciously violently maliciously sadistically intentionally. Every night: nightmares. Every day: panic attacks. I want to die. Every morning I wake up in despair, desperately praying to die. I can no longer bear the pain. He betrayed and abandoned me, discarded me like garbage. I'm so fucking traumatized and terrorized and terrified. I'm dying inside. My soul is raped. He's given me severe PTSD. Severe! Severe! Severe! How and when will I ever heal?

Christian meditation is millenniums old. The Bible states to meditate upon the scriptures and on the Lord. The Catholic Church has a long history of contemplative prayer. The monks and nuns cornered the market on it.

"A Walking Mistake"? How did you know that is what I have often felt! Now, through God's merciful intervention, I am thrown back into my teenage reading of Thomas Merton, and the CAC and feel I have a chance of starting to be what I am meant to be in the years left to me, after more than three-quarters of a century in the world. God bless you. Please pray for me. PS Is your Therapy diary full for then next decade? PPS I only got up the courage to write a Comment by being very tired.

Just hearing her do that, I've almost subconsciously been practicing that lately, and the effect it has had on me, has been remarkable. It has helped me to just lighten up on all judgement. I am Pema's age she, is a wonderful guide on this path even unto my dotage!

I am an ethical vegan, into yoga, meditation, I find it useful. I do not push my values on anyone nor am I ever shaming. However, what hurts my soul, in yoga class, meditation sessions and other places is when people who are complicit in the horrific treatment (one could start with the Dali Lama loves to eat lamb and of course his hosts know that) of so many beings (animals) wish upon them all of these wonderful states. Short of some sort of reconciliation (am I missing something?) excluding the being that one is complicit in torturing from these wishes solves things for me. I have great respect for my yoga teacher who no longer uses the traditional wishes (at least in my presence). Love Sharon, this is not about her beyond the topic being Loving Kindness.
