AP Heavy Weight is a midge designed to act as the weight in a two fly rig. Great fly that gets dunked. The wire is also tied a bit differently than is normally done on a typical wired midge pattern.

SoCalFlyTying: Piconi's Prowler

SoCalFlyTying: Episode 2 Fly Pattern This week's fly is a Peter Piconi Prowler. It is an excellent pattern here in Southern California for a variety of species, including perch, corbina, bass, and even bonefish. My variation uses Arctic Fox fur for added movement in the water. The Arctic Fox version is a great option for fishing bays, when targeting spotties and bonefish. My variation of the pa...

SoCalFlyTying - Wood Duck 40 (WD40) Pattern Tied by John Vanderhoof of the Long Beach Casting Club at a 2013 Downey Fly Fishers meeting. This is an excellent trout pattern that often gets over looked. Great in smaller sizes on the Lower Owens River out of Pleasant Valley Dam. Winter fishing on the Lower O is just around the bend. Try this pattern out in a size 20. You will not be disappointed.

SoCalFlyTying - Corbina Surfin Merkin Fly
Very nice!
I do like the more rounded body than the Cronin tie. Also that the body can be trimmed down to match the size of the sand crabs present.
@@wm.tomdavis374 exactly. I feel the PC tie looks good off the bench but when wet does look a bit off for me. This version can be trimmed down to match the hatch Happy Tying. AP
this looks kind of similar to AL Q holey moley.
Adam when will you demonstrate tying Q’s holy moley fly?
Very cool
Great vid. This is my favorite surf fly. I used to buy them at Bob Marriotts. They don't seem to carry them anymore. Do you have any idea where i can find them?
great dragon fly nymph! 🎣
What is dubbing material please
Tying a white fly against a light background is not a good idea for video.
Great video thanks very helpful. Do you have any information on how you paint the heads for your flys???
Do you sell these?
I normally sell my flies through a local fly shop, called Bob Marriotts. I can sell you some if you want outside the shop. Just let me know. You can contact me at socalflytying@gmail.com
Ok great, Bob Marriotts is real close to my house. Can you list a couple flies and colors you recommend for me to get? Thanks
Adam - excellent video - I would sure appreciate more info on your technique for tapering SF materials.
Thanks a lot, great video on weed guards...helped me so much!
AP - I still have a few of these in my box that you gave me when we fished the Wall at night a few years ago. They do catch fish. Thanks for showing us the way to tie them. I will now be able to replenish my supply, and will fish the ones I have more aggressively. (i.e. lose them - hopefully on toads).
I love the Loon Products. and I will start usein the zip tie
need to add this one to my tying list
good stuff
Enoc Hernandez thanks Cool pattern that gets fish. All good.
so it's a gotcha. huh
What vice is that
It is a Renzetti Presentation 4000 with the clouser arm attachment. I thought the Clouser Arm was a bit gimmicky at first but overall I really enjoyed it. Makes tying longer big flies a breeze since you can wrap some of the longer materials along the clouser arm to keep them out of the way of tying. Anything else let me know. AP

Great Video! Very helpful! My only question is what sizes do you guys carry for fishing Crowley?
Nice ties. Heading down to SoCal in a few weeks and can't wait to try some of your fly patterns. Thanks
Awesome fly Dave, and awesome video Adam. It has been a "go to" fly for me in the bays for spotties and butts.
I have been adding the ingredients at the end of the video. Hopefully that helps. Glad that you like the series. Hopefully I will have more videos up soon. Adam
Thanks for the comment..
Good quality video and instruction! Suggestion....include the recipe in the remarks directly below the video. I know you gave the ingredients verbally but would be helpful for future reference. Great series!
