This is how to clean an EGR cooler while it is still on the car. This car has 200,000km.
The car is a 2001 BMW E46 M47 320D with a never before cleaned EGR cooler. Using a brush, oven cleaner, carburetor cleaner and fresh water I made it shine again. This way of cleaning should work for many cars that have easy access to the cooler. The cooler never has to be removed from the car saving time and hassle with the radiator fluid.

2001 BMW E46 M47 320D 136HP EGR motion test

I just put this cleaned up original EGR back on the car and revved it up a few times to see how the EGR reacts. The car was not totally warned up yet. The car is running pretty well after this test. If you zoom in on the EGR you can see it's motion better.
2001 BMW E46 M47 320D 136HP vacuum and turbo reaction while running
Просмотров 16 тыс.5 лет назад
I placed the vacuum gauge between the turbo actuator and the turbo vacuum solinoid. I started the engine to see how quick the vacuum builds up and how it reacts when I push on the accelerator peddle and you can see the reaction of the turbo at the same time. The car was performing well after this test but not perfectly.

I start the engine and measure the build up of the vacuum at the vacuum reservoir at the turbo. Then I turned off the engine to see how fast the vacuum drops.

VTG motion at start up and Rev up, this car has low power and fault code 65 charge air pressure control. Any suggestions how to fix this problem?
Talk faster damn it. 😴
Free tip: you can speed up RUclips videos to 2x. Thanks for watching 😃
hello, what was the cause exactly?
Vaccumn hoses were cracked and leaking. All new lines solved it.
Siemka pisze do ciebie bo jak kupiłem auto to był taki szum czy gwizd jak w 0:26 zawsze jak dodawałem gazu to był a od jakiegoś czasu już go nie ma mogła turbosprężarka się zepsuć?
I just changed a sooted up egr valve on my 06 powerstroke. I am going to clean the egr cooler next.
awesome work. I was looking for this. SUBSCRIBED.
Thanks for the sub!
This seems a good option & will not have to recode the car as its not disconnected 👍.
why did it sound like it had 2step when you rev it up the first time ? My friend has that problem, is it that a smoke is going in and there is power loss
I do not remember exactly but I think that is just me pressing the pedal only part way down and letting off. it reves up normally when I give full gas the last couple times.
Witam. I jaki był problem .
have same sort of unit on a 2014 tq iload van and auto parts wanted $1350-00 for replacement van has done 245000 kilometres I will be doing exactly your method cheers from australia
I hear this noise when the valve is closed . Is that normal ??
I think it is normal. I am still driving this old thing at 254000km.
Mine doing same. But still don't have power at start
What it's the problem ? I have issue with my e46 320d 2002 320d m47tu 150 hp. Before 3000rpm it's completely dead. I replace turbo, the map/maf/fresh air intake sensor's, new vacuum the hole car. Every think and again no solved ?! After 3k rpm it's like kicked and start to run like a beast. ?!I get ridden of egr and swirl flaps + software for this. Can you help me because i will sell this peace of ****.
No code's error's only 2 plug's ....
did you get the right maf, coded it for your ecu?
did you get the right maf, coded it for your ecu?
@@ghazik3656 Mine are 150 hp version don't need coding the maf. And yes i get working maf from my friend car and car it's the same ...
@@abfinfrontofme4726 www.bimmerforums.co.uk/threads/e46-320d-symptoms-of-an-uncoded-maf.106862/ read this topic, maybe it will help you.
Jealous of your easy access
Hi, I seem to have the same problem when going through the Rev range on idle. Sounds like it’s hesitating up to about 3k rpm and then frees up after that similar to what yours sounded, did you find a cure/cause of this? I’ve changed and checked a few bits but not got any idea
Replace every vacuum hose, some are hard to get to. Make sure you don't crack or break the plastic connectors. I had a couple very dry and brittle hoses.
136 or 150
Removing the EGR cooler is no joke. Spent a small fortune buying specialized tools. In retro, would have been better to take it to a mech. See if your mech will remove for you, clean it yourself, save $ and have mech put it back together for you.
all tools are few bucks. maybe 10 -20 in total. it's rather fiddly, but no expensive tools needed. mine egr might be cracked, so it might be leaking coolant, not sure, because my dpf has high emissions and underneath cooler is also strange mix of black liquid, but it's not oil, so I am perplexed
You sound american, but this car is only sold in europe. What's going on here? lol
Correct in both counts 👍🏻😀
Как он должен при 3 тис ходить ?
Sorry, I can't read that 🙁
You're lucky then. This car is now running well. There were vacuum hose issues.
Ty for the info I'm doing same ty ty
@MedAlex how did it work out for you?
@@kbmw494 really good its clean and shiny
Did you fix this already? Was it a broken vacuum hose?
I'm still working on it. I had one bad hose, it was original from 2001, the rest are about one year old. As of today the car is running pretty well. I'm going through the system step by step.
@@kbmw494 Ok keep us updated. I may have a similar or related problem with the vacuum system. But hadn't have the time to test it by now.
Hey @Paul, My car is running very well at the moment. I used a cheap ebay vacuum gauge to test my hoses and the resoviour tank if they hold a vacuum and carefully checked that all the vacuum tubes were on the correct positions based on the online vacuum diagrams I found for my car. There is a roughness while accelerating at 2200rpm but that's it. Otherwise it runs well.
@@playalisticpaul how is your progress with your car?
@@kbmw494 i still did not find the time to check. But it is planned for this week for sure.
