Gildersleeve always had an Extremely cool and expressive face.

Many of these episodes have a basic message that is timeless. I love the message in this one: you don't have to be wealthy to have class and know how to treat people with respect and kindness.

I love the simplicity of this show. The message in this ep is still true: Do what you love, be where your talents are needed, and be assured the love of those around you when its true stays with you through good and bad times.

The lovely Doris Singelton! One of Lucies favorite acters and a good fried to her.

Doris Singleton was a fun character actress who had an outstanding career, beginning with radio. I loved her as Carolyn Appleby on “I Love Lucy. I was fortunate enough to meet her during the late 1990s. She still had that unique sounding almost breathy voice.

I've been binge watching this. I wasn't born until 63. This is such a great show. 😂

Per the IMDb, Lanny Rees (Junior) turned 17 in 1950, the year of this episode - and Ann Burr (Marilyn, Junior's date), 30. And yet the actress you find on a Google Image search for Anne Burr (the Anne Burr at the IMDb used Ann as well), from 1950s soap operas, looks nothing like young Marilyn from "Life of Riley" here. And there is a page at the IMDb for Ann Burr proper (not Anne) that is blank. Help!

One of my favorite scenes in television history: Marilyn: Junior, tomorrow you are to go back to school ... Junior (looks about sheepishly, resigned): ... Yes, Marilyn. The episode might have been titled "Junior in the Honey Trap."

Funniest line, as the just-delivered Mrs. Bennett is talking about her twin baby daughters and Riley, already in a panic over his to-be extracted tonsils, thinks she is talking about her own, post-op: "My husband can't wait to get home each night and play with them!" Let us pay tribute there to Marlo Dwyer (1915-1999), who also, in Episode 9, played the teacher in "Junior Falls for Teacher". Her screen credits, per the IMDb, range from her playing a Gold Digger in "Gold Diggers of 1933" to an episode of the TV drama "Medic" in 1955.
