Simple DIY Miter Station
It's long overdue but I finally built myself a miter station. I decided to follow my modular workbench design and build a simple miter station. This should be easy to approach, DIY friendly, but also allow room for many customization options.

Router Table Box Joint Jig

I needed a box joint jig and so instead of making one for the table saw I decided to make one for the router table. DIY Butcher Block Food Prep Cart

I made this as a present for my fiancée because she loves to cook but has a tiny kitchen with no counter space. I was watching an old episode of the new yankee workshop where norm built a butcher block and that sparked an idea. I thought it would be cool to build a butcher block but build it as a cart with two shelves so there's plenty of space for bowls of ingredients. Miter sled: ruclips.net/...

Formidable
Pretty good job on this. Maybe something more rounded around the edges or corners and tilt the back some. Didn’t seem like it was very comfortable straight up and down.
Tilting the back definitely would have helped. Originally I thought I was supposed to be 90 degrees until I realized all chairs have a larger angle, like 100 or 105 degrees.
Great idea! Think I’ll add that to mine.
Nice build. I’m having to start over with my shop, “life changes” and all. I like this build as well as your miter saw stand. How do you like your Jet mortiser?
Works well so far. I think it’s great for the price. Definitely beats using a standard chisel.
Very nice good work👍👍
Thanks!
Agreed much nicer than a portable stand which I have
Very good. I especially like the inlaid measure and stop block setup.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Nice!
Thanks!
Terrific job on that miter station! 👍👍
Thank you!
So much nicer than a portable stand.
Yep!
Nice video but for my ears it is harder to hear what you are saying w the music playing.
I Did it..... Awesomeness thanks for Posting
It’s curious why some presenters, who would dearly like viewers to subscribe, choose a earsplitting soundtrack that is nothing but noise and completely detracts from content, content that might otherwise be appealing. Once the noise began….I bailed!
The Calmest Kickback I have ever seen😂
You can use WoodPrix plans. The best e-books and very detailed instructions. You can learn much from them and make it yourself.
Nicest conversion I’ve seen!
Thank you!
Great edit that provides lots of good information in a concise manner!
Thanks!
Looks like a great addition to your workspace.
I’m glad I went with this approach instead of flip cart or placing the planer underneath. Nice to have both machines at the ready.
Great Video
Thanks!
Good video : well narrated and to the point! I am no expert but your middle section where high and low table meet will sag if under heavy load. Enforce with another "stretchers?" Binded/Bolted across your bottom stretchers or add a pair of wheels there maybe can fix. Just a grain of salt😅
Interesting idea, unfortunately not all shops admit such a structure due to the cart size.
I suppose a flip cart is an alternative. But a better option, if someone is limited on space but wants a jointer and planer, one of those planer/jointer combination machines.
@fangerwoodworking actually the first 5 seconds of your video gave me an excellent idea! 😊
Lol that’s great!
@@fangerwoodworking In my case specifically I have two small carts one for each machine, then I can keep them "parked" at my shop corners and pull it to a clear area only when I need. In fact I don't use my jointer very much and I only own one because it came in a batch of machines I bought. Call me a weirdo but the jointer is not my first choice for jointing and I catch myself using the planner and the table saw for the task in most of occasions! LoL!
That’s the same for me. I rarely use my jointer because the planer and table saw get things close enough. Also I try to limit the number of tools in videos haha. I like the individual cart approach though. Could almost have a dust collector and outlet setup at a tool station and whichever tool could be brought over to there. That would actually help keep a garage useable for parking because everything could be moved against the walls and brought out as needed.
That's a great little setup.
Thanks!
Because I don't own woodworking tools, I have a metalworking/machining shop. Because I need a very large tool chest to hold and organize all my tools in a vertical chest. Because I have better things to do. Because I waited fifty f____g years for a nice big professional tool chest, and I earned it many times over so when I finally could afford one, I bought one. That's why.
Ok
This is cool!
Thanks!
GREAT build. I like that you keep that 2 X 4 building philosophy. It really works throughout the shop and is very adaptable. I was going to build a flip card for spindle sander/planer. NOW after watching a couple of your videos, I am going to put the sander on the top but underneath, I am going to put a pair of 100lb full extension slides and put the planer on that. I rarely us it so why not keep the wood low and it will be a reasonable footprint. Thanks and keep the vids coming! !! !!!
Thanks! I like the drawer slide approach. I thought about a flip table before but couldn’t get over the annoyance of flipping it and dealing with cords and dust tubes. Drawer slides seem easier to work around that issue.
when I finally get a joiner and planer...gotta steal this idea...thanks for sharing!
Go for it!
Enjoyable had one very similar early 1970s thank nice podcast 😁
Thank you!
Well that's an interesting project! I have a couple of old wood planes with good irons but the bodies are beyond resuscitation. Thanks for mentioning about the weight being on the light side. That's helpful in going through my cutoffs and giving this a go.
I also think I could have moved the blade slot forward, giving more room for a handle in the back. That or making it longer. Still a fun project to figure out as you go. Hope the rebuild goes well for you!
Interesting build and nice job. I would have placed that handle a little further back from the front of the plane.
Thanks! I think next time I’ll move the blade slot further forward, giving room for a handle in the back. That or making it longer. Definitely will make more though - super fun project.
Because they are heavy, take up more space than the tools they hold, and hurt when you bang them against your leg. 😉
Probably why bags are popular again lol
I remember as a kid my Dad telling me his first project as an apprentice carpenter was (by hand, no power tools) to build a toolbox for his new tools. (1960s). In his words, if you can't build a box, how the hell are you going to build a house? He also built a hope chest for his girlfriend (my mom) which I still have today... still solid. Miss you Dad!
Anyone else feel cheated that we didn't get to see the box with tools in it?
Never occurred to me that anyone would feel this way lmao. Maybe next toolbox video I’ll do that.
Superb craftsmanship.
Thank you!
Great job man!!!
Thank you!
Very nice - thank you. However, does the fan motor get hot due to the extra load and less air flow?
It could. It probably would be better to use a single 4” filter because it would allow for more air flow.
It’s a relatively lightweight tool box and no worse for that. It’s much easier to build a heavyweight box and so I commend you on going for the harder option.
Thank you! I saved a lot of weight with the 1/4” plywood. So far so good for holding my wrenches.
I still have the metal tool box I made back in the old days. I was 17 when I made it.
That’s great! I wish they still did that in school, at least where I went. I made some clocks and end tables but never a metal toolbox. That would have been a cool project.
I like it. Would you recommend this WEN lathe?
For the price it’s great, but it is limited on size and functionality. It works really well for small projects and learning how to use the lathe but it’s something that will be replaced down the road.
@@fangerwoodworking Understand.
Nice work! The people who are saying this material is not strong enough probably drive massive diesel pickups to the grocery store to buy their keurig pods
Lol probably!
Well, if it holds up, great. But 1/4 ply seems awfully thin.
So far so good for holding my wrenches. I’ll see how it holds up long term.
Nice box until you put bolts in the handles. Now the trey will scratch anything it sits on.
I guess it could. Replacing the regular bolts with screws, just glue, or carriage bolts would help. I mostly just keep the tray in the box though so the bolts inadvertently help keep the tray from sliding off the toolbox.
OK it's great how can I do it without a table saw? More importantly can you?
Any cut with the table saw can be replaced by a hand saw, at a minimum, but a band saw is probably the next best power tool choice. Any rabbet or dado could be done with a router instead of table saw. Also could be done by chisels and hand planes but that wouldn’t work well with plywood with how it chips. The table saw works well for the 1/4” plywood because of the accuracy needed.
When cutting off your top, make sure your table saw fence is parallel to the blade. Many people have a slight offset to prevent kiuckback. I honeestly tthink you should have used 3/8"" plywood instead.
Excellent! I learned two things... You can glue threaded rod in wood and have it hold fast to twisting and also that locking two nuts nuts together holds! Thanks. I hope to use that info to make an adjustable height monitor stand where the monitor block rides a threaded rod up and down the stand.
That’s a great idea. I may use that someday on a new desk build.
Great build!! Do you have any plans available for purchase?
Thank you! Unfortunately no plans, just the video.
Amazing build! This is exactly my dream camper
Thank you! It worked great for this past camping season. I did add extra batteries and solar panels though, one battery and panel wasn’t quite enough to keep the cooler running. Easy to upgrade though.
built my own toolbox. by the time i bought plywood, hinges, corner braces, and a latch,it cost more than a rotomolded one off the shelf!
Hardware costs is always the kicker. Worth it for a hobbyist project but it’s similar to building cabinets. Cheap until the drawer slides, hinges, and handles are bought lol.
Looks good! I'd like a video showing your drawer technique too. Do you use drawer slides or dados?
Thanks! I just stick with metal full extension drawer slides. I added a link in the description for how I make drawer boxes: ruclips.net/video/y5Dy8Dy13Bg/видео.html I just keep it simple with brad nails and glue.
