Yeah, lots of people don’t realize just how talented he was. They get distracted by the iconic image he had - the jumpsuits, hair, leg moves, and what the impersonators created. But Elvis was fire. Truly talented, charismatic, sexy, could sing many genres of music (including gospel) and a very generous man. He is still relevant and missed by millions (47 years after his passing)

A lot of people don't know the song has a story behind it. He relates to leaving Atlanta headed to San Francisco looking for opportunity working as a laborer on incoming outgoing ships at the dock. He went to the docks trying to get a job but was always turned down . The ships rolled away everyday still he had no job hence the term ("Sitting on the dock of the Bay wasting time")
