I like to think that this was actually bills defeat and then he never came back; it’s the definitive ending to gravity falls

The way Ford's hand trembled and he had to force himself to pull the trigger... It get's me everytime it's the exact moment he relizes what's at stake (unlike when he corrected Stan's GRAMMAR) and what he's about to do... Basically shoot his brother point blank. A brother who was okay with this, simply because he wanted to protect him. To protect his family. Not to be a hero, not to even defeat a demon... just to protect those he loved. And because he thought that's all he'd ever be good at, that he was a waste, so at least he can go in a usefull way... And there was no time, no chance to tell him otherwse, tell him how much it ment... And that moment Ford reminded himself how much he loved Stanley as well... and that he didn't tell him that, that Stanley will "die" thinking Ford was mad, for ruining the zodiac, that he would "die" thinking he was "owning up" and "deserving this", that it's "the first time to do something meaningfull with his life"... And he still had to shoot. The fact he just throws the gun to the ground after - not triumphant but defeated, with disgust at what he had to do... Man I love this show so much. And he only got to call Stanley a hero after - when it (at the moment seemed to) didn't matter because he was not himself, he was lobotomized, it held no meaning to Stan then... "We won but at what cost..."

honestly stanly just being so casual about his sacrifice to bill is what hit hardest. at the end of the day he as genuinely happy to give up his mind if it meant defeating bill and keeping his family safe. and the ONLY TIME he raises is voice is to get bills attention to make sure he KNOWS why hes gonna die.

Stan Is A saving and a Beast

The reason Stan and Ford were able to defeat Bill was because they combined Ford's knowledge of the supernatural and Stan's ability to con people. They lured Bill into a place where he was weak and vulnerable. Bill is only weak in the mindscape. Ford had information Bill needed, but his mind couldn't be erased thanks to the metal plate in his head. Stan's mind could be erased, but there was nothing Bill wanted or needed. To get Bill into Stan's mind, Bill had to think he was Ford. Since Bill couldn't leave when Stan's mind was being erased, his only hope was to make a deal, and Stanley wasn't falling for Bill's tricks.
