Dorm Room Tour and Details | Oregon State University West Hall (OSU)
Hi y'all!!
This video is me giving you all the details that I wish I had known about West Hall. I know the video is a bit lengthy but I wanted to make sure I provided you with all the information. I provided dimensions as well as some things about the dorm that are not on OSU's housing sight. Feel free to ask me anything if I left something out or just in general about Oregon State University.

how did you adjust your bed to fit the dresser underneath? i'm moving into west today, and when i got to my room the bed was too short to slide it under
@@lyrikos. I think my bed had some adjustment to be higher than other beds. You can probably ask maintenance or your RA about it too. My roommates bed did end up being lofted when she didn’t order it to be lofted so mine might have had an adjustment to it as well I didn’t ask for.
I’m thinking about attending Oregon state from California is it really expensive to come from another state?
@@ApollonLv it definitely is more expensive to be an out of state student than instate (but OSU ended up being the cheapest school I applied to). Plus there are plenty of scholarship opportunities to help out with cost as well.
@@lilytree7103 Thank you!
Did those suction cup organizers in the shower stall work well? Did they stay stuck?
@@billogden8869 yes! They worked really well and were quite simple to get off.
Hi Lily! Can you move all of the furniture, or just the beds and desks? Thank you!
@@susangress6939 yes, you are able to move all the furniture besides the wardrobes. It might be a bit “stuck” to the floor but if you push it hard enough it will move.
How big is your area rug?
@@NicholeHoffman-e7n it was a 5ft by 7ft. I wouldn’t recommend bigger and to get small rugs to fill in the rest of the space if you want since it’s oddly shaped.
Can you measure the width and height of the windows??
@@jenniferbroaddus7680 I’m no longer living in the dorm, so I can’t measure them sorry :(
Hi Lily I will also be moving this Fall for my PhD. I am more of interested in hearing about the community itself and also civil engineering major. I am also coming from east coast from Delaware. So I have heard a lot of stuff from people about west coast that east coasters cannot adjust etc etc . That is expensive, rough all of that. I have offer here at Delaware. As well but the research area that I am going for is most active in OSU so like was just kind of confused. I hope you can give your personal opinion in this. Thanks
@@waqasiqbal9441 congrats on your PhD! I’m not in the college of engineering but I do have lots of friends in it and they are all the best and nicest people. Most of them I have met through the ALI (adventure learning institute) and are like me very outdoorsy and very kind people. I used to live in NY and then moved to FL and now OR, I would say the main culture shock is that people are very kind and caring. I kidd you not, people are soooooo nice here and I can promise you’ll find a little community within OSU for yourself. There are some things like gas that are definitely still more expensive but for my first year that was the only thing that was more expensive than other states. (I did carpool a lot with people since I don’t have a car myself). I hope that helps! Comment if you have any more questions!
Thank you so much! Did it come with the shelves in the shower or did you buy them? Do they work well? Did the bathroom come with the plunger/toilet scrubber?
@@mt.hoodcraft7899 The shelves did not come with the the shower, we got them off of amazon. They should be under “suction cup shower shelves”. They worked really well as well but had to be cleaned like once a term. The bathroom doesn’t come with the plunger or toilet scrubber.
heyyy im coming to OSU this september 👏🏼👏🏼
How did you and your roommate decide which side of the room you got? What are some things you recommend bringing?
We had discussed it beforehand. I knew I wanted the side with the little nook and my roommate didn’t mind at all. We loved having the mini fridge with a freezer(especially since the dining halls close unreasonably early for college students), cleaning supplies and medicines you typically use at home. (You don’t want to be sick and having to go off campus to get what you need). We kept our stuff in the shower since it was suite style and not communal so we got a sort of bathroom wall attachment and we loved the connivence of it. We also had table lamps for when the other wanted to sleep but the other had to stay up and study/ finish homework. Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions!
And something to go on top of your mattress like a mini second one (Amazon is great for these). The mattresses provided aren’t comfortable and can be gross (college mattresses)
Hi? Can I know the price of the rent for alone room and the common room please (:
Hi! It is all on this link here, pricing can vary. uhds.oregonstate.edu/housing/halls
Go Beavers!
Hi Lily! Thank you for sharing! What do you love about the OSU? And why did you choose the OSU that is pretty far from your home? My daughter applied for Computer Science and now she’s got the offers from the OSU and from University of South Florida, and also from some other universities as well. So we are now at the stage of choosing the university. Thank you!
Hi!! Congrats to your daughter on getting into both schools! Way to go! I remember like it was only a few weeks ago what it was like when having to make college decisions and I wish her the best of luck! I will try and answer your questions to the best of my ability and keep it a bit concise (although I have a bad habit of making things a bit to long) What I love about OSU is the proximity to anything outdoorsy since that's what really attracted me to move here. (I am originally from NY (I moved to FL when I was 10) and always loved the mountains. I have a passion for rock climbing, skiing, mountaineering, hiking, camping, etc. and there are so many locations near by (3 hour drive at most) that make it super accessible and ideal for me to do what I love. I don't have a car but its never been an issue since my roommate who has a car comes with me on most the adventures so we use her car. What I also love about OSU is how kind people are here, growing up in South Florida I had a really hard time connecting with people and making friends due to the culture back home. People are super kind, accepting and inclusive here in Oregon and that was a bit of a culture shock for me honestly. I also love that OSU has a program called Adventure Learning Institute (ALI) and makes it super easy to get outdoors on a college students budget where you can rent gear and join group trips (even if you don't have any experience) I recommend taking the OSU virtual tour if you are unable to see the campus itself. If your daughter wants to be closer to those outdoorsy places OSU does have a second campus called Cascades, its located in Bend OR and absolutely stunning and much smaller. Only downside is it is much further to the airport and Portland (3hr away). I also don't know if they offer Computer Science. I have been extremely fortunate to have parents who want me to be able to explore the world and new places, they really encouraged me to go to college in another state and explore a new place. Moving far from home hasn't been the easiest but fortunately I am able to fly home for breaks (Alaska Airlines has direct seasonal flights from FLL to PDX) if you are from that area. I do also call my family at least once a day since we are very close, whether that be my siblings still at home or my parents and that definitely helps me. I have heard really good things about computer science (CS) and the college of engineering (my roommates brother is in CS and some other people I know) but I don't know specifics other than its really hard but rewarding. I hope that answered all your questions, feel free to ask me anything else too!
@@lilytree7103 Hi Lily! Thank you so much for such informative answer! You are amazing! My daughter Maiia has received the offer to study CS (Cascades). Is it possible to give her your contacts to communicate with you directly (maybe on Instagram or FB?) if it’s OK for you. It would great if she can connect with someone from CS as well. I understand your parents so much, we want to give to our children as much as we can. We also want Maiia to explore the world and people (although for me it’s very hard to be so far from her). We are from Moscow (Russia). The thing is that Maiia is also loves skiing, snowboarding, hiking and camping. And for her it’s extremely important being able to connect with people and make friends. So, your answer is very helpful. Maiia also received the offer from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Rose-Hulman is very good in tech program but it’s small private university and location is not perfect as I see (but they gave the max scholarship to us). Internships are also important for us. I don’t know if OSU good at providing internships. RHIT is very good at this. So, honestly we are now thinking between OSU, USF and RHIT. So many questions and concern! Thank you for your time and for your kindness! Take care!

Do you pick your own roommate?
I did! I met my roommate on instagram, she reached out to me after seeing a post I made/submitted to the OSU 27 roommate instagram page. I imagine one will be created for your graduation year as well. My Suitemates opted for random selection and it seems like they both get along very well (we don’t interact much), hope that helps :)
Do you see a lot of triple room setups or is it mostly double room setups?
In west hall its just single and double rooms, across campus in other dorms there are more triple room setups like dorms McNary, Weatherford, Hawley and some more. I recommend checking out this link uhds.oregonstate.edu/housing/halls for more specifics. The triples are the cheapest and the singles are the most expensive to live in on campus. Hope that helps!!
Thanks Lily🌼🌿🌷
