So, you're saying that it seems to be a particularly American phenomenon? Maybe it's about wanting to be seen and heard. Having something to say and getting it out there in front of people. A mindset that assumes one deserves to be heard and seen? I don't know. But I bet some university somewhere could spend a lot of money doing a study... (A lot of the signs are clearly homemade, no industry involved.)

Dianna Dann Narciso Yes, indeed that is what I am saying. But mostly it is abput the religious or counter religious signs. I live in the Netherlands. Only when there is a massive demonstration many people can bee seen with signs. Almost every time it is about politic topics. And often there are just a few people with such signs. I can't recall ever seeing someone holding up religious or counter religious signs on any festival or what so ever. So, on gay pride for example, I never saw any christian with a sign telling the gay people they go to hell. Gay people and straight people are just having a good time. Even religious people who are there, just party along all other people. When there is a religious holiday there are no atheists with signs telling the religious there are no gods. Also, street preaching is very uncommon here. But well, then again, religion is not such a hot topic down here. So most videos I see about the topic, because I am interested in the topic, are American.

Well, this was a rally, so it was natural for people to have signs. But there are often a lot of smaller demonstrations around where people carry signs. I guess it's a way of quietly shouting. :)

Well, then it is better that they keep the signs, but ditch the megaphones and other shouting equipment. I can imagine their shouting is quite annoying. Even though they mean well :)
