    I think the only thing better than the original tele neck pu. Is the twisted tele , don mares stelly, or the Ron Ellis mid tall. Pretty much the same idea, a taller than the original neck pickup. People say it sounds Strat neck, I think it leans that way , but still its own thing, and it makes the middle position really wake up. Running a hotter humbucker I never understood. Buy a LP!

    Not a fan of the T-75. I'd rather have two SRO12's. The G12H-100 Celestion is a much better pairing with alnico SRO's from Celestion both in sensitivity rating and eq curve. But my favorite pairing with alnico SRO's are Fane Medusa 30's. They have the same sensitivity rating and are a perfect compliment in eq. I have one of my 4x12's loaded with the G12H-100/SRO alnico combo, another with the SRO/Medusa 30 combo, and they are hands down the best 4x12's I ever played through.

      You are right, you can indeed compensate for a weaker pickup by raising it up. Our interchangeable cartridges allow you to change the pickup height, same as you would in a standard guitar. In some cases like the P-90 soapbar we have to make a mounting plate which attaches to the bottom of the pickup, and that plate has height adjustment screws. No matter what style pickup you put in a Somnium, that pickup is fully adjustable and installs in our cartridges without soldering, unlike a standard guitar.

    Looks like a cake spatula my guy, the whole 4 on top 2 on bottom configuration is dumb as all heck. Your placing an irregular pressure on that thin neck, I foresee warping in the future. And seeing that truss rod bolt right there all sticking out is horrid.

    • @guitartonecentral
      @guitartonecentral 3 месяца назад

      Respectfully, 4-2 headstocks have been around for decades, premium brand Music Man the most notable and there are no issues, no warping. Some of the top guitarists on the planet play their guitars. Our necks are not thin, they are 0.820" to 0.880" at the 1st and 12th respectively. Our roasted Maple Impulse neck went from warm humid Florida to snowstorm-cold and dry New Jersey and did not need any truss rod adjustment during the two weeks it was there. If that's not stable I don't know what is. We can put a truss rod cover over that channel, it just means more work taking out 3 screws before you can get to it. We design for performance and ease-of-use, and a truss rod cover plate serves neither purpose. If that's what you want though, we're happy to oblige.

    Sorry...bit of a dummy there: The vibrating strings act as magnets...magnetized by the coil permanent magnets. They couldn't be part of the coil because they are not physically connected to it. In fact, since they attach to the bridge, which is grounded, they strings are grounded also. All of this works because the strings are made of "ferro-magnetic" material (ie: steel & nickel). Electricity is generated in a coil when it moves in a magnetic field OR the magnet moves in relation to the coil. Because the coil & the main magnets are fixed in relation to each other, it is the vibrating magnetized strings that cause the magnetic field to vibrate, generating current in the coil. It doesn't matter whether the coil or the magnet is moving, as long as the coil wires are crossing the magnetic lines of force. And, more current is generated with a more powerful magnetic & magnetic field, and more turns of wire in the coil to cross the magnetic lines of force. Thus, it is possible for an old pickup, with an intact coil, to cease working, or work poorly, because the magnet has weakened. This is proven by the fact that non-ferro-magnetic (ie: bronze) strings, which would conduct electricity, do not generate output on an electric guitar. What are called "bronze" strings work because the core is steel...as are the non-wrapped high strings. This is also why nylon strings don't work on an electric guitar...though there is at least one make of nylon string that does work, because the wrapping is steel, as are, again, the unwrapped high strings (Alternatively, the high strings could still have a fine steel core embedded in the nylon.) The point is that without magnets, you can't generate electricity with a moving coil, but the resistance & the "Henries" of a coil can be measured without the presence of the magnets. What you failed to do is check the magnetism of the strings. If there is output without the pickup magnets, then the only answer is that the strings themselves are retaining some magnetism in the absence of the pickup magnets..

    This is a false presentation. It is absolutely essential that a magnetic field is present to couple the string to the pickup or no sound will be amplified. The pickup is an inductor and is coupled to the string via a magnetic field. As the string vibrates it couples more and less through the field as it vibrates. Without the presence of a magnetic field there is ZERO coupling and zero audio. A magnetic field can be produced by 2 mechanisms ( in this case) a) A magnet in the pickup or residual magnetism in the pole piece bar under the pickup b) A current flowing through the pickup coil as it connects to the input stage of the amplifier. The inductor in the pickup works without a magnet ( in this case ) only due to the residual current flowing through the pickup coil connected to the guitar amplifier input stage electronics or some residual magnetic field present near the pickup. This current is created from the input circuit of the guitar amplifier or pedal. Using an operational amplifier as the input stage for the guitar ( say a guitar pedal with an operational input stage ) will produce no sound at all due to the infinitely small input current of operational amplifiers. ( assuming no presence of a residual magnetic field)

    Actually, there most certainly is a reason why this "other way" isn't optimal. Just putting it in the slot causes a wear/friction point on the string and with too much use of the trem the strings break. Exactly like repeatedly bending a wire back and forth.

      @@robertthomas7239 there is, but since you decided to be a smart Alec about it it appears you lack knowledge and need some education from a guitar tech standpoint. When you clamp it using the block it relieves almost all of the friction against the bridge as the bridge point isn't the only thing holding it, and the string has something to push back against even though there is always a degree of actual string tension the string does try to push backwards when the trem is depressed. Say you're holding a stack of books... would it be easier holding them in one hand with an extended arm or with both hands and bent elbows? The clamped down block takes on an equal amount of pressure. It's very simple physics.

      The only improvement on the Edge Pro is you don't have to take the ball end off of string, but you still have to use tools to back the clamp screws out before you can insert the new string. The saddles are not rollers, the individual string height is not adjustable, and it doesn't lock into a fixed position. These are all features that a Kahler can do, but this one can't.

    It barely gets louder as the magnet approaches the coil. But the magnet restricts the vibration of the string as it gets nearby and thus reduces the affected signal strength into the coil. A larger string travel generates a louder signal, a smaller string travel generates a weaker signal. The string is attracted and thus dampened by the nearby magnet.

    My strats with vintage tremolos do the same thing, don’t go out of tune.

      @@guitartonecentral Oh yea. Body routing. Nope. I'll go with the new top mount Floyd for my SGs.

      @@MrJohnnyDistortion Have you actually installed and tried a Floyd FRX? I have, for about 30 seconds and then I took it off and sent it back. I thought the feel was terrible, it had a herky-jerky movement as I recall. And bad enough that the SG already suffers from neck dive, the FRX puts a large metal locking nut and plate on the headstock. Maybe you should consider a Kahler stud mount instead, and their string lock is much smaller: i.pinimg.com/originals/78/83/95/7883951336f33c0459bba81df264b3dc.jpg

      @guitartonecentral Thanks for your experience with the FRX & the image. 24 frets. Does the Khaler go out of tune if a string breaks?

      @@MrJohnnyDistortion Yes, it is a floating system so the strings and the springs are all balancing each other. However, string changes are quick because you don't need tools at the bridge, you simply hook the ball end of the string in, takes 2 seconds. If you are using the Kahler lever-lock string clamp then you don't need tools at the headstock either, just flip the clamp up and slip the string through to your tuning machine. Of course if you lock the Kahler into fixed-bridge mode (can't do that with a Floyd), then broken strings have no effect.
