Tough day fishing Reggio Louisiana.
Fished Reggio August 11 2024 from 6 am to 11 am. Hooked up with redfish at 9 am with the gold spoon and lost him. Only fish hooked that day. Started the day with a whopper plopper and a little story on how I got the lure. No luck with the whopper plopper that day but will try again. As always looking forward to the next fishing trip.

Did you run into any gators?
Cocodrie is well below the brackish water line and is all saltwater, I never seen a gator down there. I do see gators in some of the areas I fish like Reggio but have never had any trouble from them.
@Radrc66 I've seen pretty massive gators on the west side of the road, like across from fish heads charters. But awesome dude I'm bringing my kayak this weekend. That is definitely some relief
Do you have a video with the finished product?
Thanks for the memories. My oldest friend from college had a camp on Belle River. We fished sac-a-lait so much we had every top memorized. 😊
Darn. Hope you earned a better day ahead on next trip. Interesting how some days they just don’t feed. I’m finding that to be the case more in the Summer than other times. Sure looked like a great setting early morning!! Good luck ahead.
Almost didn’t upload a video from this trip, but got to show not every trip is successful. Still had a good trip and looking forward to the next one.
I had a good luck out of Reggio on Saturday with a spinner bait.. They would not touch the spoon. I saw similar blow ups in the grass chasing shrimp and shad (1:10). Lots of small gar in that area. Thanks for the time you spend making these videos!
@@sb4743 thanks for the comment. I’m guilty of not changing lures even with two other rods on the kayak.
Better luck next time! -Dawn
Would you mind letting me know what net you use?
@@Youthfulnostalgia sorry no manufacturer tag on net. I believe I got it at Bass Pro a few years ago. The net is nylon but is rubber coated which helps hooks not getting hung up in it.
@@Radrc66 thank you! I’m gonna try to find one there. Looking for a bigger net than what I’ve got
I just started a RUclips channel in making my own videos, you doing a great job. Enjoy watching yours.
NICE! HOW DEEP IS THE WATER YOUR FISHING AND WHAT OZ SPOON ARE YOU USING?
@@raybrdjr water is 2’ or less most places I fish in Reggio. I use a 1/4 oz gold spoon, it doesn’t fall as fast when I vary my retrieve.
Great job filming an awesome catch! -Dawn and Ronnie
👍
Great video. What area around Reggio did you fish? Also did you launch from Reggio marina? Thank you
I fished ponds off the Schooner Canal. The farthest from the launch on this trip was 2 miles.
wow, do you catch them reds all summer long like that?
@@raybrdjr I caught a limit yesterday by 8. Should have left then, heat ran me off water by 11.
Great Vid, non stop action! what area at Coco marina you fishing? Beautiful Reds dude!
I was within 3/4 of a mile from marina. Easy kayak fishing.
Nice little mess to eat. Love the Verret area.
Hi great video. Where is this located? What were you mostly using as bait?
@@MalayGhoseHajra Hwy 23 south of Belle Chase right before you get to Port Sulphur. I fish with a weedless gold spoon 90 % of the time.
Great Video. Glad to see the grass back
Well done! Man some big ones. Great fights and well handled. Can’t wait to get back down there. Good luck ahead.
I have the kaku Zulu
Never heard of Kaku kayaks. Looked them up , you have the pedal drive?
I live in Louisiana outside of baton rouge I would love to bring out the kayaks and get a trip with you
Also what did you use as bait? Thank you
I use a weed less gold spoon when fishing Reggio. Work the spoon right through the grass.
Nice video. What kayak are you using? Where did you launch from?
Hobie Compass . Launched from D’ Boat Launch in Reggio Louisiana.
Video deserves more views. Work on your SEO and titles and it will help greatly.
I have to honest I had to google SEO (search engine optimization). Thanks for watching.
are you using spinnerbaits too or just gold spoons?
Started the day with a spinner bait but was picking up to much grass. Switched to weedless gold spoon until I limited out. Switched to a weedless willow leaf underspin jig with a green crawdad. Still only caught reds but was targeting bass with the crawdad.
@@Radrc66 sweet, man! great video! I was in that area this weekend kayaking and caught only one bass Friday eve. Went sat morn at daylight till 10am and missed one red that got off the hook midway to boat and the bass would lazily hit the spinnerbait! the same story the guy had at the dock when you got back...haha!
@@raybrdjr the weedless gold spoon is the key down at Reggio and Delacroix. Work that spoon through the thickest weeds, the reds are in the grass.
Nice video bro
Awesome! You didn’t waste any time getting there and also catching a limit +! Well done. Hoping to get there again soon myself. Henderson just might not really get good this year. Sometimes later in the summer, but for sure the good May spawn got messed up. Good luck ahead.
Yeah , Henderson holding 16.4 on the Pelba gauge. I will likely go to Henderson once Pelba is 14 and falling and will stay on the east side.
that's not Chalmette buddy...
Awesome stuff! I caught my first decent redfish in a kayak a few weeks ago. I can't wait to catch my first big bull red.
Great video and some awesome catches. Man those things were fighting hard. Well done. Love the camper and kayak setup. I’ve always wondered how much easier that might be than the pop-up camper. Both have pros and cons. Good luck ahead and enjoy!
We typically do not get from under the camper so the camper goes where we go. If we take a kayak it has to be trailered, can't get away from pulling something either way you go.
Nice video. Some big ones. Hoping those storms and tornadoes didn’t destroy Kern’s. Haven’t been in a few days. Good luck ahead.
I saw some drone footage of Pat's and Kern's Landing. Pat's was hit hard and the camper and house boats at Kern's got hit pretty hard. Vacation this week and will be trying out Cocodrie early in the week and PAC later.
@@Radrc66 Good luck!! Looks like good weather. Great spots!!
Seen you at the landing. Slow day for us
Yeah, I covered a lot of water . Picked up one here and there.
Nice day. I hope to be there soon.
What kind of rod and reel do you have
The reel is a Zebco Omega and the rod is H2O Express 5’ 6”.
Where is a good place to stay overnight when riding these trails?
We always camp there at the trailhead.
What type of rod holder is that at 2:12?
It is a Ram-Tube . It mounts on a Ram mount ball.
You are an inspiration to anyone trying to upgrade their property & protect their vehicles from the weather! A simple remedy if you can’t afford a large completed garage! This is good enough for anyone on a budget build! I’m guessing your base is 6x6’s or bigger!?
Thank you for your comment. The base is 6x6's and the supports that hold the trusses are double 2x8's. Trusses are 2x4's.
I fished that same area earlier this month but it wasn’t nearly as good. Water clarity was terrible and almost zero submerged grass. I’m guessing storms this last year or so killed the grass off?
We had an extremely hot and dry summer that may have affected this shallow water area. I have not fished there since June or so.
That was nuts!
I used beetle spins all the time mostly with the black grub - bass loved them… crappie love them too
This is a major mistake. Your roof is very strong to side wind loads, but very weak to wind coming in from the front or back. It could all fold down, even with the 1x2s on the top. You need a couple of diagonal braces so that can't happen. Just put a 2x4 from the top of the second truss to the bottom of the first truss at the center. Then do the same thing at the other end. You should actually do this after putting up the second truss. It keeps all the trusses perfectly vertical. All truss makers recommend this.
Good job --- should be good for 20 years. They should come with bearings already. I have a Daiwa goldcast GS 80 $59.oo it has only 1 bearing.
Very nice. Do you sell these adapters?
I designed these on Tinkercad so basically I'm not allowed to sell/profit on the free license version of program. I uploaded the final versions to Thingiverse which you can download for free and print. Search Radrc66 and it will take you to my design page. Final design was 5" riser in front and 2" in back. Makes the Hobie Compass comfortable to fish out of now.
@@Radrc66 thank you very much. May I ask what year your Compass is? I have a 22’ and am wondering if the Native seat will fit it. I was told that the mold was slightly changed after they made the latest switch to the current seat. Thanks again.
My Compass is 2020. I know seat was changed and imagine hull was also modified. It is shame that the Compass seat it bad for so many people.
Telling us what lure you using and patterns would be useful
I plan on showing closeups of the lures I'm using in future videos. Thanks for watching.
Nice video. I usually don't have much luck in muddy water ---- giving me confidence.
Damn that was a awesome video!!!!!!!
Wish I would have got more hook sets. Next time I will not be rigged up weedless.
@@Radrc66 I feel you but man that video was perfect! It showed the good the bad and the ugly parts of fishing!

Summertime can be some tough fishing. The way I fish there in spring won’t catch many fish in this summer heat. Got to fish deep water when surface temperatures are 91 degrees.
What kind of fishing rod and reel is that? Nice fishing 🎣
7' Abu Garcia Vendetta rod medium heavy fast tip. The reel is an Abu Garcia Revo X 30" per turn.
Where is thar place !?
Louisiana marsh south of Houma. Launched from Coco Marina.
Are you using this at night or during the day?
I have been having in on all the time. Most effective during the day when mud daubers are active.
@@Radrc66 I just put mine out. I never thought they were attracted to it. This is the first year I've ever had problems with wasps, hornets, and mud daubers. Thanks for sharing.
