Probably two good games that you could mod would be hyper light drifter and Solar ash. Though I think you should play them first.

how do i get the subtitles to work? gabriel and other bosses that have dialogue don't have translated subtitles.

Now this is something that should be officially added to ULTRAKILL. I think it would indeed help a lot of players who are not native english speakers.
