Greetings from guest programmer Lisa Lambert. Twenty years ago tonight, on March 16, 1997 at the Rivoli in Toronto, comedy duo Brock & John released the video of their song "Spinal". Two weeks earlier, upon realizing the release would happen on St. Patrick's Day Eve, Brock & John and I challenged ourselves to write and present, in two weeks, an original St. Patrick's Day "Brock & John" musical....

RIP Jonathan. Gone waaay too soon 😢
Oh my John. I just spent some time here and what a delight.
Can’t believe it is going to be 10 years since his passing soon. I may not have known him but he seemed to be great man. May he rest in peace.
I just found out about your film a few days ago. Very late to the party. I watched it today, and enjoyed it so much. I hope you managed to get it on DVD eventually! Thanks to you and Jonathan for the film - I love a quirky story. And lovely that you dedicated it to your friend.
Thanks so much for your kind words. I’m happy you enjoyed the documentary! John
Borcmie sweetest 🇨🇦 evuh! Thanks, Mitchell & sorry 4 ur loss.
Love this and so relevant for the times during covid
Music is tremendous, I want to hear the whole recordings. Love Ishtar. Hot fudge love, cherry ripple kisses♥️
Remember THE FAR SIDE comic strip by Gary Larson? He did one with the caption, "Video Stores in Hell". In the image, someone is browsing a video store. EVERY VHS Tape is labeled, "Ishtar". 🤣😂🤣😂
Yes. We used an image of it in the documentary. Did you know that Larson hadn't actually seen "Ishtar", and when he finally did he apologized. He said it was the only strip he ever apologized for. Kind of reinforces Elaine May's quip that "if all the people who hate 'Ishtar' had seen it, I'd be a rich woman today". 😃
@@clemtrivia that’s an interesting story about Gary Larson! I was 19 in 1987 and spent that summer working in a movie 🎥 theater. I was able to watch Ishtar for FREE a few times 😂🤣😂. I never understood why the film 🎥 had such a high budget, but like Charles Grodin articulated “it wasn’t my money”. Regardless, I loved Hoffman and Beaty and laughed in the right places. Ishtar got a bad wrap and was underrated.
Love seeing you and Jonathan, John! Thank you for all your uploads over the years. Jonathan had SUCH a fantastic singing voice! He bought a doll, you know ;) We fans all miss Jonathan terribly. Love and thanks from Melbourne x
Thanks for the lovely comment, and the “Honest Ed” musical reference! Jonathan is missed by all who knew him.
@@clemtrivia I just checked this, and am thrilled you replied! Thank you x
He had a good singing voice
I've always said if you know someone who thinks they write amazing songs but they're actually terrible, you will totally get the humour in this film. I love it.
LOL, Paul Williams is extraordinary songwriter. In an interview he said it was difficult writing songs for ISHTAR. I believe him! Imagine, having to write a (good) song that's really bad (in a silly way). That's pressure!
Why would they record with only one channel audio? It’s not 1963 anymore -
These men are pawns.
Please, sir, take your trolling elsewhere. One of these men has passed on … Seven years ago, in fact… And if I may be so bold as to assume & speak for someone else, the other most likely mourns him still, as the chemistry between the two implies they were very close… Please show some respect and refrain from commenting such things. As my grandmother said… “If you haven’t anything nice to say, ‘better to say nothing at all”
While ur a doosh.
the best, rest in paradise mr. grodin
I looooove that movie. Would love a remake with Will Ferrel and John C Reilly
"I love it so much I want its reputation tarnished more than it already has been"
Homes & Watson is basically waterboarding in dvd form.
I am 19 and it is midnight but I am right here just listening to Jonathan's laughing. He seemed really funny .I usually wonder how he would have handled all this covid situation, maybe with a little bit of humour and of course a mask. So glad for this video, it is treasure.
So Funny, the songs that were written for Ishtar. Such a hilarious film.
What a sweet couple
Lol
He was so handsome it was unbelievable....rip you beautiful man.
I miss you Jonathan, everyday
I smiled when I heard Jonathan laughing at the end of the interview. He seemed so funnny and clever at the same time.
Jonathan, :c my crush
Haha! That was cute!
Haha John you are brilliant! 🤣 I'm a big Jonathan Crombie fan and I absolutely loved your videos on Waiting for Ishtar so I subscribed and I'm not disappointed! Thanks for the laugh. I needed it in these strange times!
Thanks, Charlotte! I'm glad you got a laugh out of it. That was my hope. Strange times indeed!
Thank you John Mitchell for sharing this video. I became a fan of Jonathan's as a child when I first saw Anne of Green Gables. So very sad he was taken too soon. He comes across as such a kind, genuine and funny man. May he rest in peace ❤
Thanks for the comment, Charlotte. Jonathan was all of those things. Be well.

One of my favorite movies. So underrated
Miss you Jonathan! I grew up watching him in Anne of Green Gables. Gone too soon.
damn you’re very missed jonathan, but it’s like they say, the good ones go first
Bless you, creators of Waiting For Ishtar. I saw it on VHS in 1987, bought my own copy, and wore it out trying (and succeeding) to make Ishtar converts. People are such cattle; they believe and repeat whatever the media and other people say.
This is the movie my family used to test any boyfriend I brought home - if they didn't find it funny they might not mesh with us.
@@Koshka42 Valid method of screening people if you ask me. :)
Foi o melhor Guilbert Que teve...Eterno
he looked ill ...but even so Anne of Green Gables was a family show, it touched all our hearts and minds and sure at least we can enjoy him on here xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx RIP TAKEN TOO SOON
Hi, Rebecca. I'm not sure why you think Jonathan looked ill? He wasn't sick. He died of a brain aneurism. It was sudden, and he didn't suffer, but yes, taken far too soon.
because I work in the medical profession and my neighbour when I lived at home died the same way, she complained of headaches her eye sight was failing and yes there is pain, headaches especially are at times for me painful.
@@clemtrivia Ruptured brain aneurysm Symptoms of a ruptured brain aneurysm usually begin with a sudden agonising headache. It's been likened to being hit on the head, resulting in a blinding pain unlike anything experienced before. Other symptoms of a ruptured brain aneurysm also tend to come on suddenly and may include: feeling or being sick a stiff neck or neck pain sensitivity to light blurred or double vision sudden confusion loss of consciousness fits (seizures) weakness on 1 side of the body or on any limbs
Love how down to earth Jonathan was. He seemed pretty amazing. He will be missed by so many.
John Mitchell I don’t think he looked ill, and I also work in health care. He looked healthy and gorgeous, as he always did. I love this video of you two! It’s cute and it makes me laugh. I am also relieved that you said he didn’t suffer. I’ve been worried about that for awhile and wondering about what he went through :( I did not even know him; I am just a fan and admirer of him. He was very talented and seemed so kind. I’m so sad that he is gone. It breaks my heart. God bless him. Thank you, JM, for posting this :)
Great songs, Mr. Williams! This movie is one of my favorites!
I miss him. I feel so, so sad.
It was Jonathan's birthday a few days ago. He would have turned 52.
@@clemtrivia I'm so sorry. I know I didn't know him and I'm just a fan, but his performances were mesmerizing. He just seemed like the most extraordinary guy.
@@FranMSK No need to apologize. He was a talent, and a really good person as well. It's nice that you have good memories of him. Cheers.
Fran I hear you. I miss him too, so much. And I didn’t even know him. You can just tell he was the sweetest, kindest man. Xo-> to Jonathan in heaven.
I love how he’s just eating an apple😂
Such an amazing, gifted, beautiful person. rip
I wish his death was a hoax.
I have to admit I love Ishtar too even though I know telling the truth can be dangerous business...

John Mitchell Thx!
JC left me with beautiful memories.😢 Thanks JM. Hope your doing well.

Jonathan aveva un sorriso bellissimo! I miss you!
'wardrobe of love in my eye' can't compare for sheer goofiness to' left the cake out in the rain and i dont think i can bake it i never find the recipe again.'..and THAT song was a major HIT! MAJOR HIT.
Another good one: Portable Picnic

I just saw Ishtar for the first time this week. It's a really good film imo! I've watched the videos on this channel and am looking forward to seeing Waiting for Ishtar.
OMG, this is what I get for being behind on my emails! So excited to get a chance to watch this again. Just need to find time. :)
