Western Toad Highway and Tunnel

The Western Toad migration is an annual event in the Cumberland trail network. Every year we see masses of tiny toads migrate from the Lakes to the forest and we had to seek ways to harmonize this event with the high volume of trail users. Thankyou to Fox & Bee for capturing the construction of the toad highway and underpass tunnel & bridge and this years start of the migration.

This trail is super fun. The video while nice hides how fun it is. There’s a fair bit more steepness to it than it seems here. The GoPro effect is real

Flagged with Kyle Henderson and completed April 2000 with Trail Harvest Crew. Originally started crossing Cumberland Creek at south end of pond later re-routing around pond crossing dam (near Roughneck entrance). Trail exited on to road at original kiosk location near Broadway 2.0 entrance. A shorter trail after logging but what length was lost was made up in fun with the addition of bigger and badder jumps. Cheers to the 3.0 builders.

Went Sunday morning. Clear cut was still in great condition, hero dirt. Forest was a little slick but still not bad considering how it looked opening day. Super fun trail.

Where does that bridge on the left at 1:00 lead to?
The bridge was an alternative route to the drop. The bridge has since been decommissioned and is no longer part of the trail.
