Ey up! I’m Gem and I’m from West Yorkshire. I’m a wheelchair user that enjoys a lot of things in life. I love to analyse the experiences I have, then share them - probably with jokes in between.
When I was younger, there weren’t many disabled people in the media so I want to make sure I add my sparkle to the tiny part of the internet on this page. Oh I also have a condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (type 3) aka Brittle Bones, because some people like the deets.
After starting a blog in 2016, I now use my years of experience to create content, public speak and consult on disability around the world!

How I organise my fridge as a wheelchair user! | FRIDGE TOUR 👀
Love your videos, and i personally dont care what you drive with, you have passed your test you seem a confident driver, you are following the law with ducuments thats all what matters, i have neen driving 38 years and i love it still, it makes you feel free, will enjoying see more videos from you. Xx
😂 lol, the music is cracking me up!
Been right there with you today and just keep thinking of everything that needs doing and I just can't right now 🤦🏼♀️
You’ve got this Gemma, I’m proud of you. I m like you, I would love to do a drive with me. Now after watching you I feel like I might be able to do one, have to have a few runs first then I (fingers crossed) will do one. I’ve been in my wheelchair fulltime for 15 years and I’m not ashamed of my disability but this weather makes it harder for me to go out, as well as the looks you get xx
Don''t feel guilty, get the rest you need! Love your singing!
Great video, Gem! I understand that cold, gloomy winter weather can get you down emotionally and physically. Folks are going to have opinions about everything, positive and negative but you do you!
Ah thanks Herbert! Yeah this time of year is always tricky for me. Thanks for your kind words too. Everyone has been so nice ☺️
So chuffed to learn you're on YT too! loved coming along to Poundland with you, looking forward to the next video! ❤
Yay thanks so much for watching! Welcome 💖
I love all the things you got! Your Mum seems so fun and lovely ❤
those flowers are beautiful omg
Now I see where you get your fun from and your good personality your mother made a beautiful kind special young lady❤❤❤❤❤
My late Mum in 1970s took 6-7 times to pass her driving test. As a teacher of 30 years experience teaching mostly 16-18 yr olds, I see loads of anxiety with driving tests. All of these for non-disabled people. Add disability and then the crap you describe in your vid (I as fellow brittley) - how do we all cope as humans???
Nice selection. The flowers and pillow are nice decor choices. The sign at the end is cool!
I understand how you feel. Situational awareness is important for everybody. Wheelchair users and non wheelchair users alike.
It not nice been hit by one and I can understand why you feel that way and People should be more aware of you than you of them I get it because I can walk but I use a red and white walking stick so I'm going blind and deaf and the amount of people that walk straight into me or like I've walked into people and had to stop them from falling because I've knocked them and you feel awful isn't awful feeling keep strong you're an amazing incredible young lady ❤
Sadly, society has a ways to go in embracing the notion that the disabled engage in the same activities as everyone else. The disability is a factor in living, but NOT the overwhelming factor, not the overall focus of life. Why should it be a surprise that you do things that everyone else does? There needs to be more conversations and education about this. Thanks for sharing your insights, Gem. Great video!
I know this is a difficult discussion, but such an important one, and by sharing like this you will hopefully help protect vulnerable people who may not be aware. I would never kink-shame anyone lol, but having disabled/small people as an actual fet!sh is really problematic and personally I find it gross. Just ask black people how they would feel about being diminished to a "type", for an example of another demographic. I know that's a very different thing, but I hope I'm making sense. You're right, there's a difference between having a type and it being creepy and weird. You covered this so well Gem!
It is a difficult discussion, and I'm sure my opinions will evolve over time. Thank you for watching and commenting. Always appreciate your kind words 💖
Glad you had a great time!
Thanks Herbert, I really did!
I’m a queer man and powerchair user with too much experience with devotees online. No matter how many times I explicitly say I’m not interested I get messages from people who will try to ignore those boundaries and that’s the point when I really draw the line . I once had someone message me saying they had recently become quadriplegic and were struggling and wanted advice around really personal stuff like needing assistance with toileting. Really tugging at the heartstrings stuff. Something just seemed off and when I went to their page it was incredibly obvious they were a devotee and were messaging me for fetish content in a super deceptive way and I felt really violated. Their whole page was just photos of powerchair users, catheters and used incontinence products. It’s one thing to say upfront “I have a thing for disabled people” and give someone an informed choice (not my cup of tea but i guess there might be some people who would be okay with it), but to be deceptive about it and prey on people’s kindness is just wrong.
I’m so sorry, that’s super deflating and must be unnerving too. Eurgh. Thanks for sharing x
I love the disclaimer 😂. I think there’s also an uncomfortable crossover between devotees and a weird self-image thing. Like a person who is too interested because they buy in to the idea that being with a disabled person makes them some sort of saint. Its icky. I would like to try to find that documentary. Thanks!
Haha thank you. Oh yes, definitely! Thanks for the support ☺️

the disclaimer make me chuckle hehe
There might be people who have a preference for disabled people that isn't fetishistic, although I haven't of many who fit this category (although I think I've heard some on the Dave Savage Lovecast podcast) I make the distinction because what you're describing is a gross objectification of you. These men do not have respect for you as an individual to not even engage in basic pleasantries before trying to engage is, what is for them, sexually explicit conversation. It would be like a man coming up to me (as an able bodied person) and asking me questions about what I look like naked etc. For that reason, I completely understand your feelings around it and completely support you in being against this behaviour One think I don't think you touched up in the video (I've got 5 mins left so you might) would be those with a sincere preference - attraction to disabled people and those in wheelchairs that is not fetishistic and whether that would feel different to you (it might not). Personally, preferences don't bother me as long as they can see my personhood and only engage in the objectification of me with my consent (which would involve extensive negotiation regardless of what the objectification was about) Hope that makes sense, happy to explain anything more (@kittengoth on Instagram)
Yes that’s really interesting. I can definitely relate to what you’re saying and it’s an important distinction to make. Not all attraction is fetishism - our disability are part of us and definitely part of what makes us attractive too. It’s a tricky line! Thanks for watching and for sharing! ☺️
Hasn't happened with me as a disabled man, tbh a different issue was getting no interest at all! Btw I presume this was mainstream dating sites? Or specialist ones?
Yeah there’s definitely gender differences in experiences from what I’ve heard. And just mainstream, very quickly realised they’re not for me haha
Enjoyed this and it was giving ‘comfort’ show just watching your day to day so thanks Gem
Oh thank you so much 🥰 thanks for taking the time to comment too 💖
Good advice, Gem. It's those simple pleasures that mean a lot. Those moments are comforting and meaningful. From hearing a favorite song to that cup of cocoa on a cold night, to that kind word that someone gives you. It's all good. Enjoy.
I love this! I totally agree ✨
Hey your all way beautiful ray of sunshine and are someone special to know ❤❤❤
The pink Yorkshire mug is perfect! The mini bin is so cute hehe. I love all the mini things too. I collect cute mini collectibles from Japan because they're small and cute. I dunno, tiny things just hit different. The *queen* sign though 😄 It's awesome!
Oh I love that! I didn’t know you could get collectibles 👀 uh oh haha thanks for watching 💖
Great video Gem thanks for sharing 😊 also new goal for 2025; learn how to do mascara while talking like Gem from RUclips!!
Haha I love this, I didn't know I was goals in that department but I see this as a huge compliment 🤣
Gem, I'm so glad that you had a wonderful Christmas! I hope that you achieve your goals for 2025 and that you are happy and productive. All the best to you!
Thank you Herbert, and for watching! I hope you had a good one too and all the best for this new year! 🎉
@@gem_turner Thanks Gem!
Guilty of having a “shit book”, also trying to make it a little better 😂
Haha I love this, so easy to do though 😂 thanks for watching ☺️
You’re so right! I’ve been watching High Potential and thinking the exact same thing.
Haha glad it’s not just me! Honestly it’s all I can think about when watching them 😂
I've noticed that most detectives on television are single! They also seem to be hanging out at home seemingly waiting for the phone to ring!
Yes they do 😂

Just put it in the air fryer next time😂
Boundaries is so important for anyone, but I would say absolutely crucial for disabled and chronically ill peeps. We have limited energy and people need to respect that more. Ohmygosh I never thought about that, but you're right - guilt takes up so much energy. I need to liberate myself from this nonsense lol. I feel like I am starting to change my mindset, but I'm still a recovering people-pleaser and that's hard for me, but I'm working on it. Thanks for the encouragement!
oh gosh, it's hard to know which is worse lol.
😂 haha I know right it was hard to pick just three 🤭
@ yikes lol
So many great tips in here. I know it's hard, particularly for introverts and neurodivergents to always be engaging, but it really does help form those connections. Thankfully I'm an ambivert so I get by. I do find it hard with my fluctuating condition though, because I feel like my channel suffers when I'm not able to post, but I do the best I can. Honestly the algorithm is abelist haha.
Yes, it’s so hard to keep up isn’t it. I try to set myself realistic routine but not always easy with a fluid disability that can flare up! We just gotta keep doing what we can! 🥰
@ definitely 🙂
How the hell were u doing it before ? This is the normal way for people to do it, think about Pizza Ovens, No one Goes in with their Hands and Grabs their stuff lol
I never knew ovens were too hot to touch thanks Kurt xxx
@@gem_turner It doesn’t explain why you weren’t using a tool like this before, And your Sarcastic comment doesn’t Suit your case well. Considering this is how most people with all arm lengths safely remove food from the oven. Unless someone’s using gloves for something larger like a turkey, spatulas or similar tools are the standard solution. The way you explained it makes it sound like you only just figured out something life changing when it’s actually the most common method for this, which is why it’s confusing.
Most people actually use oven mitts bruh. I am a chef. And we reach right in with oven mitts and pull the whole pan out. That’s why they make oven mitts my dude. Most things going into the oven are much to heavy to use a spatula on 😂 Pizza oven is so much different. If you make a roast what do you do? I just don’t get your shitty know it all tone.
@@hippiegypsygirl Fortunately, I already mentioned in my second comment that for heavier items, like a turkey, oven mitts are the obvious choice. If you’d bothered to actually read that instead of rushing to make an emotional, baseless reply, you’d have realized this. Instead, you chose to ignore the facts entirely and focus on creating an argument out of thin air. And let’s address the hilarious irony here: calling me a ‘know-it-all’ while literally trying to flex being a chef as if that somehow validates your point. That’s pure irony on your part. Being a chef has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion, it’s a weak attempt to sound authoritative while completely missing the point of my comment. This isn’t about professional kitchens or heavy roasts; it’s about the video acting like using a pizza spatula is some revolutionary invention. This method is already common knowledge for most people, which is why I questioned the framing, not the technique itself. If anything, my comment reflects the exact opposite of being a ‘know-it-all.’ I didn’t dictate how she should do things or claim expertise, I simply asked why the video framed an everyday method as if it’s groundbreaking. Meanwhile, you’re dragging in irrelevant points, throwing in your job title, and resorting to personal attacks to cover up the fact that you missed the mark entirely. Bringing up unrelated topics like your profession or tossing in insults doesn’t make your argument stronger. it just shows you’re more interested in being defensive than engaging with what was actually said. Projection, personal attacks, and irrelevant points don’t make your argument valid; they make it ridiculous. If you’d like to respond again, maybe focus on the facts next time instead.
@ I just want you to know I saw you wrote me a long reply that sounded shitty in the first few words, so I decided not to read it. I hope you enjoy knowing that 😁 I didn’t waste my time.
You can hold the tray with your 2nd hand so you only have to travel a short distance with the spatula
I’ll have to invest in an oven glove 😅
One I had recently, meant well, asked me loads of questions about disability. Then at cinema, asked me, why don't you go and sit in the middle? (I had a reason, I don't care to share it cos I don't need to). Background was his wife had become newly disabled. He was adjusting, Now if only he'd recognised a 53 yr old, with loads of professional experience and just ASKED me some stuff as a mature adult, and someone with life experience he could lean on, I'd have been much happier.
Don't post this on reels 💀
Too late 💀
Even though I'm not a make-up person I love the visual theme of the vid. Love it!
Ah thank you! Thought it might be more interesting than just chit chatting 😅 thanks for watching ☺️
Nice move! I had to look up Fort Boyard on RUclips. Looks fascinating.
Haha it was back in the day!
Great video, Gem! You make your audience feel connected to you. You make excellent points. I for one, appreciate the responses that you give on my comments about your videos. You care about your audience and your message. Thanks for sharing!
Ah I do! Thank you that means a lot. Thank you for watching ☺️ Hope you have a lovely Christmas x
@@gem_turner Have a lovely Christmas, Gem!😀
