They are considered freshwater fish but they come out from rivers and adapt to the saltwater. See them all the time in Galveston bay.

This seems to be a significant event, i cant find any videos of gar eating a shark and even asked google if gars feed on shark, google said no... I'd send this video to some wildlife experts they might find it interesting
So with fish depending on the size of em they will most likely try an eat anything that’s smaller then them or can fit in their mouth. Fish ain’t really picky small sharks I’d say one in 5 actually make it to adult
