    I agree with the late Peter Skellern's sentiments. Cities are cold, distant places where people are isolated from each other. Village life where everyone knows their neighbour and works there is so much more appealing. More back to nature and less having to travel, less pollution, families living close together, maybe one day.... Micah 4:4 NKJV 4 But everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree, And no one shall make them afraid; For the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.

    If you compare Morecambe and Wise to the Two Ronnies, it is sad to say that Morecambe and Wise had a very evident show in the drop of quality in their later years at Thames, with rehashed BBC routines and stale material. Two Ronnies really did keep their work very decent, with excellent material and high production values right up to their last show at Christmas 1987.

    • @markjenner7199
      @markjenner7199 Год назад

      Another factor was that the Two Ronnie's were involved In other work outside the two Ronnie's Ronnie Corbett did sorry while Ronnie Barker had porridge open all hours and Clarence so the two Ronnie's were more versatile than Morecambe and wise who had just the one show especially when they restricted to just Xmas specials after Eric's heart attack in the late 70s.

    It’s really weird to watch this video only a couple of days after watching an upload of the sketch with Elton John from 1975 or so. The exact same sketch, word for word. Someone was very lazy in the writing department, or they were desperate to fill a few more minutes of air time.

    • @johnking5174
      @johnking5174 2 года назад

      Gary Morecambe, son of Eric spoke about this. When they went to Thames Television in 1978, they were confronted with the problem of coming up with new material. Eddie Braben didn't join them at Thames until early 1980. However even when he did arrive, he discovered that after over a decade of superb shows at the BBC, there was little left in the pot for him to use. They churned out so many routines, that he suddenly lost new ideas, and so they had to go back over old material. They were lucky, as in 1980 to 1983 many people had possibly forgotten some routines they had done, and video recorders were not in every home in the late 70s or early 80s. Eric and Ernie hated doing old material, but when you had seven 25 minute episodes per series and a 50 minute Christmas special to fill, they had no choice.

    2:15 - Eric mentions Ernie's watch here, and this seems to be another reused material from the 1976 Christmas show on the BBC, where Eric bought a crap useless watch for Ernie for Christmas. From the same 1976 Christmas show where they did this routine with Elton John.

    When you watch this routine and compare it to the original they did with Elton John in 1976 you can see a hell of a difference. The 1976 version with Elton was far more relaxed and felt natural. This version from 1983 simply feels like Eric and Ernie going through the motions, with no care put into the routine.

      I agree. The 1980's Eric and Ernie were basically a re-run. I remember seeing this series and thinking at the time: They are not as good. There was a new type of comedy coming through at the time. Benny Hill's new series suffered as I recall.

What he advocates could mean one car per household instead of two , though i would love a pony and trap. No more artificial fertiliser for the veg as well as the roses. We could each keep a pig and a goat as well as chickens . Share a few sheep on the common and rear a calf or two to supply the whole village with meat. Why should everything be so centralised . Remoaners are panicking about food supply , but in any case we could provide our own food , and make butter and cheese . Not quite. Morecambe and Wise modelled their act on Reeves and Mortimer's early stage material in the 1950s. Reeves and Mortimer split up in 1967, and by the time they reformed in 1990, M&W had disappeared without trace, although it is believed they are still doing turns in northern clubs in the hope of getting another break, proving yet again the old showbiz adage, "Avoid inferior imitations."
